*voted* Good ish.

So I got in this hella annoying conversation at work last night with this old classic rock dude in regards to sampling. They always wanna bring up Vanilla Ice as the pinnacle of hip hop sampling innovation. I tried explaining how Premier splices and scratches out choruses, but he insisted that that is merely "arrangement." I was like, is that not what ALL music is? Arrangements of chords/notes.

He kept re-itterating how unoriginal sampling is in all aspects. That it is "standing on the shoulders of giants." I love sampling, and I think it is a completely new take and re-invention of music when done properly.

I just wanted to get some other people's opinions on the concept of sampling and its uses.

Sometimes, I enjoy specific parts of a melody, be it just certain lyrics or certain sounds from an instrumental. I've heard producers sample tracks and didn't even recognize the track it originally came from, even if I had already heard the song. Sampling is creative in its own aspects. Also, F*** rock.

**** rock? lol. it's weird to willingly limit yourself as a music fan like that. "rock" implies so much different music. it's practically like saying "**** music with drums" or "**** music that uses melody" haha. oh well.

you know what it is

its that WHITE FLAME time

haven't heard it yet, but lil b has been hyping this one up more than any of his other stuff so I'm interested.

I'm in love with soul/funk/jazz samples.

Throw me one of those? Best believe I just murdered a track.

Or OD'd just listening to it~

Love me some good rock/alternative as well as a great deal of other genres.

I really like how sampling allows you to take the "best" parts of great songs and create something all new with it. A lot of people seem to think sampling is limited to ONE song, not realizing you can sample the synths from one beat, the drums from another, the vocals from another and just end up with something really beautiful~

also check this if you haven't:

Q

u thought b didn't know about them double entendres?

haha
I think the dude is way more intelligent and clever than most people think (even though he's absolutely terrible at spelling and not particularly well spoken). But still, this one caught me off guard. Of course my initial thought was Vicodin, or it would be a song about ****ing girls...and then it turns out it's about viagra, lol! I guess it could just be a metaphor, but I doubt it hahaha.

edit: I think White Flame is my favorite Lil B as far as instrumentals/beats go. is soooo chill. Banga Love Remix is hypnotizing.

Who took the cake on the I'm On remix?

Personally I think K.R.I.T. killed everybody but Cole and K. Dot. They were dope. COle's verse was a little short though.

Jo Mersa ft Daniel Bambaata. Stephen Marley and Ziggy Marley's sons respectively. Who are in return the sons of the Legend Bob Marley. Gotta check this out.

Posting it here cause it's more hip hop than actual reggae, or cross genre between hip hop and dancehall.

Big up to Nas as well! The man is a real talent! Saw him and Damian Marley preform in Amsterdam last year, awesome concert!

Said it more for a laugh. I used to be really into rock....Now, it's amazingly boring to me.

Stephen and Damian are definitely great! Though Julian and Ziggy are great to in their way. They are staying more true to the roots. Ky-Mani is good to, he's got some great tunes like Brave Ones, New Heights and Be Smart. Mostly recent stuff, but he's definitely still growing.

Daniel and Jo will grow with time though I believe. They can toast pretty good seen from live performances.

yeah...well, my point still stands lol. if someone said "**** hip hop" they would be placing acts like Immortal Technique under the same banner as Kreayshawn. it's just too simple and vague a statement to make.

anyways, new Super Mash Bros album! I'm not liking it quite as much as the first two but it's starting to grow on me.
