Would my controller modification idea work?

So it was announced today that the Wii U isn't backwards compatible with Gamecube games. That sucks, since I've been using the Gamecube controller since the launch day of Melee. Would it be possible to rewire a classic controller into a Gamecube controller casing and configure all the buttons correctly so that the game thinks its a classic controller? How hard do you think this would be?

No need; you'd spend more money doing that, when you can just buy this.

The only thing that doesn't come close is the Game Cube button placement, but I don't really see that big of an adjusting issue.
