What!? You never heard a teacher trying to interpret a book with the way he thinks? lolll.
Well obviously the image is a hyperbole, but anything the writer takes time to point out and describe is important in the story and probably a symbol of some sort. Our teachers are smarter and have read way more books than us, they probably know more about what they're talking about. Regardless, a good writer never puts useless details in their writing, most of the time the author meant all those symbols that your teacher's talking about. Also a good author would never write a boring line like "The curtains were blue." lol
