Smash Apprentice
I can still remember my first-ever tournament match. My heart was racing. It was summer, but my body felt cold. Especially my hands, which i noticed were drenched in sweat. Funny how it seems the AC and Heat can be on at the same time in the same building. I didn't know why I was so nervous. Back then I played Pikachu. And I got my *** handed to me, by a Ness. One that, If I had played in the comfort of my own home, against a familiar face, I would almost never lose to.
Years later, I play with a friend at a tournament held at the college I attend. I win the set, shake hands with him, and notice his hands are wet. Mine, on the other hand, were dry. I realized that my friend, as well as many other new/emerging smashers, experience a sort of Smash Brothers Anxiety.
The point of this thread is this:
1) What was your first legit tournament match like. What do you remember, etc.
2) How have you improved? Is it simply tournament experience and time, or is there something you do to prep yourself before/during a match. (Example: I smack talk a lot before the match, and try to get to know the person if possible)
3) What advice do you have for all smashers, new and experienced alike, to conquer your fears and not let it hinder your smash abilities.
All you smash pros and noobs out there, give some input!
