Delzethin's Alear video raised a point about a certain antagonist from Engage seeing others as means to an end. Which then made me think about how Smash fans only see Alear as an excuse to get rid of all of Fire Emblem's playable characters. After all, they're all Emblems in Engage, so why not demote them to being part of Alear's moveset and nothing else?
I have mixed feelings looking back on K. Rool's inclusion in Smash. On one hand, he's one of the best designed SSBU newcomers, a really fun character, and represents a great classic game series - but on the other, he got in through the ballot, which I feel was super exploitative; he contributes to the major issues of SSBU's roster being too monetarily-minded by being a fan demand pick; and a lot of his supporters did have a kinda strange (even if not necesarilly malicious) ulterior motive where they wanted him as a trojan horse to get him in a new DK platformer and not Smash alone. I might just be thinking of this negatively because being so excited for K. Rool was a bit of a minor trauma for me, but still.

I just wanted to add back there that King K. Rool is an old character, but I should have mentioned that any old character could have had the same treatment as the Kremling King, the way I see it. To me, you seemingly said what you said as if the reasons you said as to how K. Rool got in we’re bad things, or things that were at least not that good, and like I said, any old character could have been wanted and pushed for like that like King K. Rool was.

Did I not explain?

I know you said nothing about old characters, but you said some things as to why you felt negatively about how a character like King K. Rool got in, and I was just saying any character like him, those who have not appeared in a game for a while, would have fans doing the same thing if there was enough demand for those characters.
I have issues with the difficulty scaling and lack of incentive to explore in Elden Ring but I’m so confident in FromSoft that if there ever is an Elden Ring sequel or another open world game with its formula, the issues will be fixed and people will start to see the flaws in the original much more. This is probably cope tho.

Elden Ring isn't very well balanced for sure, I think the idea that you can set your own difficulty by choosing to explore makes sense for an open world game with Soulsborne combat but it leads to it being difficult to find the sweetspot of the game being challenging but not overhwelmingly difficult, and encourages you defaulting to builds you might find less fun if they're more effective, moreso than the more linear Souls games.

I remember when I got to Margit I fell into the trap the devs intended with you following the graces and arriving super underlevelled, but instead of going out to explore Limgrave like is intended, I just kept trying to beat him until I eventually succeeded because I figured it would get me used to the combat, I was so undelevelled it took me like over 10 hours to beat him. Going out to level, I'm not sure I would have had that same experience and satisfaction overcoming him and subsequently clearing out Limgrave, but I'm also not sure refusing to level gave me the right level of difficulty. For what it's worth I've seen a few notable reviews hit the same point, Matthewmatosis's old Lost Art of Souls video ended up being pretty accurate.
