    Why L-cancelling shouldn't be in Smash 4.

Just to cherry-pick part of that conversation, I find this idea a lot more compelling. I never played Melee at a level where this was a big concern; how common was/is this kind of play? I'm also interested in the people talking about using it to desync ICs, but not really enough to subscribe to...

    Tournaments, Monitors and TVs...

The trouble is that most setups are brought by players and amateur organizers, but many consumer LED and LCD displays have noticeable (and variable by model) display lag. Some, but not all, have game modes that reduce the amount of image processing the display does and gets it on screen faster...

    Why L-cancelling shouldn't be in Smash 4.

I didn't play as much Melee as Brawl, but I can't think of a situation where you wouldn't want to. L-canceling cuts your landing lag in half if you land during an aerial's animation, so Marth's Fair, for example, goes from 15 frames of helplessness to 7 frames. Even if it was a mindgame to bait...

Wii Fit Trainer's inclusion proves how clever Sakurai really is

I could not stop laughing at the WTF reveal movie. I intend to main her if Marf isn't an option.

    Why L-cancelling shouldn't be in Smash 4.

This is precisely the point of contention. I don't think L-canceling adds any dimensions to the gameplay, it just adds a button input. Super Hexagon is not a deep game, and wouldn't be made deeper by a "you must press this before you can change direction" button. I contend that Super Smash...

    Why L-cancelling shouldn't be in Smash 4.

The answer to the question is "What is the most efficient way to survive?" isn't "DI correctly", it's "Don't get hit". Sure, it's true, but it's not often a useful way to think about specific situations. Put another way: I don't buy your premise that an analogous question/answer is "What is the...

    Why L-cancelling shouldn't be in Smash 4.

The difference is that the question of left, right, or neutral has a DIFFERENT answer every time. The question of whether to L-cancel does not. Even sweet-spotting or overshooting, you said it yourself, is a question with two right answers depending on the situation. There is NEVER a reason not...

    Why L-cancelling shouldn't be in Smash 4.

I don't think that more inputs = more depth. Divekick is a deeper game than Gundam Wing: Endless Duel. In fact, I think Smash Bros. is appealing for much the same reason that Divekick is: by stripping away a bunch of the technical bull**** that most fighting games have, both make it easier to...

    Why L-cancelling shouldn't be in Smash 4.

Powershielding is different because there's a risk/reward dynamic. Do I shield early and know I'll block, but also give my opponent a better situation? Or do I delay my shield in the hopes of powershielding and possibly get hit? With L-canceling, there is no such consideration; you must do it...

Nope, instead of "Overswarm is Overrated", you should call it "OH **** BEES".

Wings and Brew IV: Season I Championship

lol I had Monday Night Frisbee League. Siren, I'm the moron who was running around with a pitcher of beer at noon? SD'd 3 times in our first pool game?

Wings and Brew IV: Season I Championship

First things first: If anyone who placed 1st-7th could PM me the matchups and winners of each SET that knocked him out of loser's, that would be awesome. If you want to include matches you played against those guys in Winner's, that cool, too. In no particular order: Q, you're too beast. AZ...

When you break a characters shield...

I recall something like that as well, but the minimum time stunned was something like 3 seconds for anyone under 200%. More than enough time to charge a shieldbreaker.

    consecutive hits on training mode

The counter tracks whether or not the person getting hit was still in hitstun. After you get hit, there's a variable period where you the game won't pay attention to any button inputs, so you're really a sitting duck. If you get hit again during this period, the combo counter goes up. True...
