The ZLN Presents: Warming up to Bills

So, after getting a show of hands, many are interested in a Melee tourney happening in downtown/midtown Atlanta. This is that tourney. :)

PLEASE NOTE: A BRAWL TOURNEY WILL BE ADDED GIVEN ENOUGH PEOPLE HAPPEN TO BRING BRAWL SETUPS

The Skinny
If you are late and you want to stay in the bracket you will have to pay a $4 fee (which will be put in the pot) to stay in the bracket. If you are late by 45 minutes or later, you will be automatically removed from tournament play, regardless of whether or not you paid.
  • With your entrance into this tourney, you hereby give your right for all your matches to be recorded.
  • There will be NO FOOD allowed in the venue. If I see anyone eating anything, you forfeit your next round of matches. If you want to eat, take it outside (there are several benches outside, plus several study/break rooms for you to eat, but make sure to throw your trash away).
  • Drinks are allowed, but make sure that your drink is closed container. If I see any spills with any kind of drink, then drinks will be prohibited, and a similar rule will be in effect as the one above.
  • Pausing without warning or acceptance from the opponents will result in a loss of that round.
  • I reserve the right to remove entrants from the tournament @ my discretion should there be any reason for additional removals of entrants
  • I will be livestreaming the tourney
  • Update (10/26/2009): So, apparently, my HD PVR is not friendly with Windows 7 Pro (x64), so I will need one recording setup to do the livestreaming and such.
Location/Contact info:
Center Street Activity Room
939 Hemphill Avenue NW
Atlanta, GA 30318
Here is a panoramic view of the place.
Contact info:
Here’s my number: (404)-944-3930. Call me if you get lost or you have any questions or if you are going to show up late. My aim, gchat, yahoo, and msn chat is on my profile; my facebook chat is on my homepage tab. So there’s no excuse not to be in touch ;)

Setups
While I have a full setup with two recording setups, I will need plenty more. So, the first seven confirmed setups will have $10 waived off whatever they enter. Viz. for every full setup (which is a Wii or Gamecube, Melee, and a TV) I get, you get $10 off your tourney fees.

Again: The total number of setups needed is seven. No more will be accepted after this.

Pricing/Prizes

No door fee! :)
Brawl singles: $10 (if available)
Melee singles: $10
Brawl doubles: $20 per team (again, if available)
Melee doubles: $20 per team

Pot split for all events will be 70/20/10
You can also pre-register on paypal. Just send $10 to kingshavy@gmail.com. Be sure to put the title of the thread under the reason that you are sending the money & screencap the receipt for record keeping purposes (this keeps everyone honest). Preregistration lasts until Monday, November 9, 2009 @ 23:59.59.
One more thing: Bring Exact Change for All Events. In the event of an emergency, there is a Bank of America ATM up the street (on 8th Street, by the West Side Market). But seriously, don’t be that guy that brings $40 and asks people to split it. No one will, and you won’t play. Simple as that. :)

Schedule:

1300 (1pm) Registration opens
1400 (2pm) Melee Doubles starts
1700 (5pm) Food Break
1800 (6pm) Melee Singles Start
I would like to have half of the TVs running tourney matches, and the other half friendlies or MM. After the event ends, all TVs will be available for friendlies and/or MM. The tourney officially ends @ 2200 (10pm), or when all tourney matches have ended, whichever is earlier.

Melee Rules:
  • This is a double elimination tourney. Pools may or may not be added depending on the number of people.
  • Items off.
  • Ties are broken by remaining lives, then %. If both criteria are tied, then the Sudden Death match will be played out.
  • First stage is random from the Neutral stages listed below.
  • The loser of the first match will announce a new stage to play on for the next game. The winner will then be allowed to switch characters, followed by the loser. Apply the same logic for the third match (and fourth/fifth when applicable) if there is one. (Advanced Slob Picks)
  • No stage may be used twice in a single set if the counter-picking player has already won on that stage, unless the opponent agrees to use the stage again. (Dave's Stupid Rule)
  • Double Blind character pick can be called at anytime before the first game of a set starts, and only apply to the first game.
  • Each person (or team) may choose one stage to be disabled for the entire set at the START OF THE SET, after characters have been chosen but before the random stage has been picked.
  • Controller Mods, Glitches (IC Freeze Glitch, Mewtwo Soul Stunner, etc), and tactics used to stall a match (wall-bombing, rising pound), are banned.
  • Wobbling is permitted up to 300% or for the duration of 30 seconds, whichever is shorter. Any Wobbling above said amounts will result in a loss of the current game being played.
  • For doubles: Team Attack will be ON, life stealing allowed.

Brawl Rules (If happening):

  • Ties are broken by remaining lives, then %. If both criteria are tied, then the Sudden Death match will be played out.
  • First stage will be determined through stage striking from the Neutral stages listed below.

Transportation Concerns

I know that for many of us, transportation is the biggest concern when heading to a tourney. These issues and all possible solutions are discussed below.
So, the largest john that I often hear when it comes to going to tourneys is “transportation johns!” :urg: Well, my tourney is going to put an end to that—hopefully.
Okay, for those of you without cars, MARTA (& Georgia Tech Transportation) can get you to the venue with you possibly walking for only 2 minutes. I could go into painstaking detail for every single case, but rather than do that; I will post the link for the rail lines and the respective conncetions for them here. In order to make it simpler, if you are interested into coming along and don’t have a ride, do the following: List the city you’re in, and I will give you detailed list of directions on how to get here.

http://www.itsmarta.com/uploadedFiles/Schedules_And_Maps/Regional_Map/region_map_exterior.pdf
Regardless of your choice, you will be getting off on the same stop, which is Midtown (N4).

Once on the Midtown station, exit on the West Peachtree St. exit and wait for the Tech Trolley.
The Tech Trolley Looks like this

Hop on the Tech Trolley and get off on the stop that is on the intersection of Ferst and Hemphill. NB You can find out when the next Tech Trolley is arriving by going to Next Bus on your internet enabled device, picking Georgia Tech, then selecting Tech Trolley (to Campus Rec Center)

Walk up Hemphill Avenue, the venue will be on your right (it’s labeled Center Street Apartments)

For those who don’t want to go on Marta:
Please post if you will need a ride or will be willing to offer rides so that we can make sure everyone comes to this.

Why is the number of setups going to be limited? Is it a power outlet issue? If so it can easily be remedied by power strips. I think if we have extra setups we might as well use them for extra friendlies. The extra setups might also come in handy if Brawl happens, so I don't see the reason to discourage people from bringing them.

Otherwise, no venue fee is awesome. Venue looks big and clean. Very good.

Anyways, this date is open for me. Until further notice, assume I am going.

Melee setups first, then Brawl. I mean, you can bring the discs and all if you want...

You didn't answer why there must be limited setups.

I can bring a full melee setup, with a TV. But I need to know how close we can park to the venue. I don't want to be carrying a TV across campus because I'm lazy and that looks suspicious, especially in the Atlanta area :p

The venue looks legit though.

Good question!

More so than anything, I don't want to have a massive clusterfvck of TVs as the venue is on the small side. In addition, I also don't know how many people to expect for the tourney. I told the space planning people there would be 25, but if I could have more by allowing all to bring TVs, I will consider it.

And no "I won't be safe/It's too far to walk johns" either. I would suggest parking in the APO Parking lot, as it is free to park there without a permit on the weekends. The APO house (the cyan house in the bottom right corner) is about 200 feet from the venue (which is marked in vomit green).

you mean I have to carry a TV for 200 feet just so I can get a free entry?

man... what have tournaments come to these days...

haha, jk jk.

but yeah... I think we should go for like 10 set ups at least. That way if there are 25 people, there will only be 5 people waiting in line for a turn unless teams are going down.

Bump for justice.

Archaic, can I get a ride to this? My bus driver isn't going to this tourney so I need a ride D:

I can be at SPSU. I think that's on the way from Kennesaw to GA Tech.

Again, if you can't find a ride there for some reason, I can give you directions with public transportation from most any place in the Atlanta MSA to your place. Just give me an address and I'll go from there...

My attendance depends on who is coming to this and who is going to that Brawl Reinhardt tournament.

I made the thread three weeks ago. Also, it's for the GA people that consistently john about transportation, because that happens a lot here. Sorry for the conflict though. :(

Yeah, the TN tourney is a lot closer to me than this, so I'll be going to that one. It's just easier that way, besides these look around the same size. I'll see Georgia some other day.

This is getting bumped for all the ATL slackers out here.

Guys, please step your game up! :urg:

I have seen repeatedly that people complain that they can't find rides to x,y, or z tourney. So, I make a tourney that virtually removes that excuse for you guys, and yet I have only two people that are interested?

C'mon guys: Let's actually try to get this tourney hyped up a bit, no?

Thanks. :)

Oh doo hoo to you--considering that there's a Brawl tourney on Campus the day before this one (11/13), I think that your Brawl needs will have be satiated come next Saturday.

However, I will consider adding Brawl. But, I would like to see the Melee turnout on this first.

but nothing else about it is better lol
I love you DJRome.

I'm not sure who you counted for the two kazoo, but I'm definitely going, and I'm going to drag the rest of SPSU with me (hopefully) which includes BBQ, possibly Rayku and Lounis, and newcomer Ovonte. Of course no guarantees, you know how these highschoolers can be with their lack of funds.

I counted XIF, bears, and myself. Plus all the Brawl people who want to get ***** in Melee @ Tech (currently: none).

Good to see that you guys are coming out. Remember if you don't have a ride, you can still get here on the cheap just in case. ;)

if the turnout doesn't look so great, is the pot fee going to be lowered?
