This is the Fully New Character Archive, A place for all the characters in development to be documented for everyone to see and enjoy in one simple directory. All you must do to be part of this list is to either post in this thread with all the information of your character that is being worked on. Or you can simply PM it to me so there is no chance of me forgetting to add it to the list.









Here is a checklist of things that shuold be completed before your [NEW] Character is considered "Complete"

Model- weather it is a fully new model swap or a vertex hack, a new model is one of the most important things that should be completed.

Animations- You don't want your character to have animations that are already in brawl, you should make new ones. It's more exciting.

PSA- you may have some new animations, but without a PSA all the new moves are going to act the same as the character you are replacing.

Sound effects- You dont want your new character to be screaming out "PIKAAAAAAA" if it isnt pikachu.

Stage- You want your character to fit in right? why not make him a new stage!

Music- Some nice victory themes would be great! you might also want some custom musci for that spiffy new stage you made.

Costumes- Red Green and Blue costumes are necessary for you character to compete in team battles.

CSP- All those little pictures make a difference! the in game battle pose the character selection pose, the stock icon. They all make it seem more professional.

Movement Fix:

UPDATE

For those of you who have problems with corrupted images (in-game, not in previewer), I've found a solution. Apparently, there was a texture name attached to some material entries that was overlooked. I believe this is used to 'decal' some textures on top of others when generating a material.

To find out if a particular model is affected, all you have to do is look under the 'Textures2' node. If there are texture references listed, then there's a good chance it will screw up. HOWEVER! This does not happen all the time, for instance: if a model is the only file in a bres node, or if the bres file size does not change.

The problem has been fixed, and post-processing now re-links the texture name. Here is a screen of the entry:

On a side note, the collision encoder is complete and the box selector is coming along well (hooray trig!). I've also found a solution to some of the rendering problems concerning flicker (silly fix really). I hope to have a release this weekend.











Here is how to partially model swap someone (As in, put someones head on someone elses body):
This should be OP'd at some point. Maybe.

First, you take the model that you want to be placed on he other person (Tails, Fox, etc.).

You should polygon delete any unnecessary parts (like the body or so).

Next, you go to FitPerson.pac (the one who you want to place the part on, like Sonic).

Replace one of their personal GFX with the model that you want to be a graphic (like Tails's head).

Give it an animation (if it doesn't have one) with an obscenely large amount of frames (I used 10,000).

Then, in PSA, in Wait1 (and probably entry, win and lose), call up the graphic according to this list:

I have SOOOOOO many original characters I want to be made into brawl characters, but I lack the skillz to make it happen. :(

And why aren't characters with their own original models allowed? I don't see how that makes them not fully new characters. If anything, it makes them even more of new characters.

1. You can suggest characters, they just have to be in the game somewhere. In the background of a stage, an article maybe (such as toad), pokemon or assist trophies, etc.

2. The reason those models aren't allowed is because there are already many threads on them (such as the Model Workshop, which you know) and I don't want a bunch of people telling me that or telling me this thread is unnecessary or getting pissed off at me because I stole their idea.

@leafbarrett: So you want to take over Gardevoir? There are also two things I forgot to tell you in my PMs: 1. BACK UP YOUR WORK 2. Save very often.

Yep, through a combination of model hacking (thread here), animation hacking (same as last thread), and moveset hacking (thread here). The Roy thing was just a texture hack and a moveset hack. Tell me if you need more help. Also, since you don't know much about this stuff, this might be an interesting thread for you: Pharrox's model extractor. Read the last 20 or more pages.

I can't tell if you're being sarcastic or not, but yes, you can make suggestions. The only problem with Sothe is that we can't use trophies. They don't work because they don't have enough Bones, and we can't make Bones yet.

Many of those can be done with texture hacks, such as the Samus suits, which have been done.

What good are textures when you can have the actual thing? I say that not to disparage said textures, I'm sure they're good, but I'd much rather have the actual model instead of folks trying to imitate it.

I guess I'm still a little behind the times, but has this actually been successful to any significant extent yet?

Last I knew, pulling a full model swap caused many problems, leaving characters unusable or resulting in game freezing (even if considerable effort was taken to eliminate issues with character deformation). I know that some strides have been made in utilizing the alloys, which for some reason seem to be more receptive to the process (though I don't believe I ever heard why that is), but I continue to hear about the significant limitations and problems that arise.

I guess I'm just curious about the whole process, and learning what people have done to surmount the natural obstacles.

EDIT: Sorry, I forgot to state that I am curious about this particularly because I am working to create a Little Mac PSA + Animation hack, and would find it greatly beneficial to be able to use the AT model.

Short answer: Yes, all of this is possible and has been done to a very significant extent.

Long answer: Yes, all of this is possible and has been done to a very significant extent. Some time next week, I will be done with Drifloon and we will have our first (from what I know) fully functional new character, with no issues. Any model will work on Red and Yellow Alloy, I'm not sure about the others, though. I don't know why. From what I know, all problems have been fixed. What exactly do you want to know about the whole process?

Little Mac is very possible, if you can't get his model to work on normal characters, try an Alloy. (I would suggest trying Green Alloy first because no one else is doing anything with Green.) I'll add you to the archive. Keep me updated.

EDIT: Tell me when you figure out who you're going to make him out of.

Two things I just thought of:

1. Tell me those who directly helped you in making your character, so that I can give them credit too.

2. You can also help each other, such as someone making a model and someone else making animations and a moveset, or someone making a model, someone making animations, and someone making a moveset, etc.

How can I record something right off my T.V. I figure videos would be a good addition to the archive, sort of like a try before you buy thing, O.K., not really, bad metaphor. But can someone tell me how to record it off my T.V., instead of using a camera. I want my videos to be in good quality. Your reward for answering me will be an early video of Drifloon in action.

You know, you can do it. (If you don't know how tell me or go to the BrawlBox thread.) And, as I said before, someone else can do the animations and the moveset if you don't want to do that part. Heck, I'll do the model if someone else does the rest. (I'm currently involved with Drifloon, or else I would do the rest.) Just tell me which Alloy you want it over.

You just reminded me, Eldiran might be working on Galleom, and EdgyBluz did a Ridley model, but that's all.
I have been trying to make Galleom on Yellow Alloy, yep. But, I've run into a problem -- the only place you can hurt him is his butt. (I've nicknamed him Frans Rayner.) So, basically, unless I can figure out some way to change hurtboxes, I have to give up on Galleom and try editing something else.

Other than that, I've tried Tails, but he doesn't have enough bones. I tried Porkybot, and he didn't work even though he has ThrowN, TransN, and X and Y RotN bones...

Considering he has the disadvantages of an Alloy, that can be one of his advantages. I think it would be an awesome character to make, give him a second chance! (Or just do what was done with Ridley: lower his size to where the hurtboxes work.)

AT's and many others don't work on normal characters: try an Alloy, they always work.


About Capture Cards, are there any you would recommend? (Under 100$.)


Maybe I should go back to doing a bunch of different posts instead of one large one...

You can buy a Dazzle with the DVD recorder software for about $50 US.

You'll probably want a few splitter cables too so you can record while still having the Wii wired to a TV.

You'll probably want a few splitter cables too so you can record while still having the Wii wired to a TV.
****, I didn't know it would be this complicated. First of all, I don't want to record to a DVD, I want to record it to my computer so that I can upload it to Youtube. Second of all, dammit, I need something else besides this Capture Card thing!

You can save it to a hard disk and upload it to YouTube.

Honestly, it's not that complicated. If you really just don't want to buy the thing, then you could always ask someone like Fool's Gil or myself to do videos for you. Or use a television with a DVDR plugged in.

No, you can go out and buy one. I got mine from BestBuy, myself.

And you'll definately want three splitter cables and a female to female RCA adapter. After that you'll have everything you'll ever need.
