best u-smash is besssst

i will never understand why people insist on using withdraw when recovering (outside of momentum cancelling purposes) though. all it does is limit your options really...

Yeah I know I should do it less but it's really hard to recover if there's no ledge.
I'll do it only when I'm high enough now, like at 1:27 for instance.

And I like how Charizard crouch when charging his USmash, then he has a huuuge hitbox haha.

Also, with Squirtle, I really like using a UThrow, then use a Empty SHFF and punish if possible, most preferably with an Utilt, as I did at 3:56 (and I gotta love how the Utilts sync perfectly with the music :laugh: )

Anyway, thanks anyone :)

I'll post 2 other matches soon (vs Marth & Snake) if you don't mind.

@Myo

I have to say that was some impressive withdraw use, when I saw T make a comment about it I thought you were just doing silly things with it. TBH once or twice you made a bad decision to use it but overall I like the choice to use withdraw on Frigate, you just really have to be careful though.

You got grabbed to D-throw by wolf and didn't tech it and I know most people don't agree but teching wolf's D-throw is a really good tool at times!

The Zard stock is the one I am gonna have the most critiques on so:

The Good:
- Your Squirtle's U-tilt game was completely on point as always Myo <3
- Sexy watergun gimp FTW, that always gets me excited.
- I loved the first U-smash kill, that was an awesome choice to charge the smash
- Your use of Charizrad's glide was impressive, sometimes I really do forget how crazy the hitbox on his glide attack is.
- Your sense of Zard's triple jump and Up-B were very on point, there were a couple of times you had me real scared (i.e. 2:18) but you kept kool and recovered very intelligently

The Bad:
- You need to grab more against wolf and there were plenty of times you missed opportunities (i.e. 2:41). You can force options out of him and punish by shield grabbing or just grabbing.
- With any of the three Pokemon if you approach by walking up against wolf so you have enough time to powershield lasers, it will leave you with a lot more room to read wolf and get down his pattern for lasers.
*As Zard once you can predict his lasers you can RSCA the laser -> grab if you get close enough
*With Squirtle you can get an F-throw CG or U-tilt combo started by learning his lasers
*As Ivy you can get the grab -> B/Uthrow to switch if you really need it
- It seemed like you kept trying to SH RS to set off the counter attack, but if I see them being too aggro I like to stay back I don't push forward with RS. When you do that it will force a committed approach to come directly to you allowing you to control the spacing of RSCA allowing you to get as close to the 45% as you can.

Overall it was a real good match Myo, I tend to play wolf a lot since a friend of mine mains him so try out what I said and lemme know how it works.

Olimar :
Don't start with Ivy against Olimar, Squirtle is way better.
0:26 & 0:50 -> Don't use U-Smash at all if it can't kill.
0:29 -> You shouldn't be putting yourself at risk of getting gimped.
1:05 -> Very risky switch, you should've been punished for that. Try going to the left with Ivy during this transformation, BS is awesome there to prevent your opponent from approaching you ; then you can switch if you want. Going Charizard for the end of your stock instead of dying with Ivy and then getting comboed hard with Zard at 0% was a good idea though :)
1:30 -> Nice one.
2:25 -> Jabbing would have been much better/safer.
2:40 -> Don't waste your DThrow. :(
If you want to try KOing with it a bit early, buffer the throw after your grab because that way, your opponent can mess up his DI.
2:46 -> Why switching? If you get KOed, your Zard will get ***** really really hard. Plus, you can avoid killmoves as Squirtle, but Ivy doesn't have the mobility to do it consistently. But I assume switching is a personnal preference :p
3:13 -> Very risky. Nair is better in that situation.
Good match. Gg.

Marth :
0:27 -> Bair maybe? :p
0:50 -> USmash would have been cool, no? :)
1:21 -> Just stay on the platform and wait for his reaction. If he doesn't want to land on the platform, just grab the edge and punish him with a Rock Smash.
I can't say anything about Squirtle because he played sooo bad (no grabs when it would have meant a stock, etc...). If I was you, I would play very safe with Squirtle, let Marth approach, don't get grabbed. Stall if possible. When you have the opportunity (i.e you grab -> Dthrow or Zero Switch), switch to Ivy and play as safe as possible. Switch to Zard when you can if you're still at like < 80% ; Zard has to be refreshed during your Squirtle/Ivy playtime. If you're at high % with Ivy, just die and play your last stock as Charizard.
3:36 -> Grab the edge and Uair him when he lands on the stage.
3:46 -> Don't waste your U-throw.
You need to avoid being predictable with the U-smashes, U-air, UpB with Ivy. Your use of Vine Whip was bad at some moments.

I hope I haven't made any big mistake O:

>Yeah I'm seeing the error in that
0:29 -> You shouldn't be putting yourself at risk of getting gimped.
>It didn't go how I thought it would be in my head, so yeah 10-4
1:05 -> Very risky switch, you should've been punished for that. >I didnt think he could touch me so that why I did what i did.
1:30 -> Nice one.
2:25 -> Jabbing would have been much better/safer.
>Really now? I usually go for the angle hoping the get sent to the blast zone and Usmash props them well in that way
2:40 -> Don't waste your DThrow. :(
If you want to try KOing with it a bit early, buffer the throw after your grab because that way, your opponent can mess up his DI.
>Buffer would be like instead of pummeling just go straight to Dthrow; also I really thought he was gonna get Koed from it
2:46 -> Why switching? If you get KOed, your Zard will get ***** really really hard. Plus, you can avoid killmoves as Squirtle, but Ivy doesn't have the mobility to do it consistently. But I assume switching is a personnal preference :p
>In a way yeah I do switch to a different poke at each stock when my opponent is KOed But Ill keep in mind to not switch to zard when ivy is up there in %age
3:13 -> Very risky. Nair is better in that situation.
>It was a no no but it was like a make it or break it moment
Good match. Gg.

Marth :
0:27 -> Bair maybe? :p
>I didnt feel like I had enough time (frames to pull that off in such a precise moment)
0:50 -> USmash would have been cool, no? :)
>I use Dash Attack at low percents because it would normally put them right above in the right position for a Utilt
1:21 -> Just stay on the platform and wait for his reaction. If he doesn't want to land on the platform, just grab the edge and punish him with a Rock Smash.
>Never thought about that although i was kinda fearing a UpB because it has the same concept of MKs Shuttle Loop so I wanted to avoid that.
>Stored in memory
3:36 -> Grab the edge and Uair him when he lands on the stage.
>I dont follow?
3:46 -> Don't waste your U-throw.
>I forget who posted me the kill percentages but I felt it was around that range for killing
You need to avoid being predictable with the U-smashes, U-air, UpB with Ivy. Your use of Vine Whip was bad at some moments.
>Yeah Ivy is the one I have problems with when it comes to not being able to play for a couple days,note taken on the following moves you noted. I was trying to do a pivot UpB Because I saw someone do it in a combo video and it looked cool for coolness value s?o please forgive me in that remark; any good times to use it offensivesly and not to do's

I hope I haven't made any big mistake O:

Ok I've read your comments :)

3:36 -> Grab the edge and Uair him when he lands on the stage.
>I dont follow?

If you grab the edge, he won't be able to grab it with his Dolphin Slash, you'll force him to land on the stage so he'll have a ton of lag. Which means you have the time to ledgehop Uair for teh kill.

If you have any advices, I'll take them :)
A small tip, don't air release against Wolf. Squirtle gets hit by DACUS, Ivy gets spiked by sideB, and Charizard gets hit forwards by sideB. Other than that, yeah, definitely grab more. The one grab you got 3rd stock with Squirtle led into some really nice utilts, and don't forget about fthrows at low % to get Wolf offstage where you can intercept his recovery. Charizard can shieldgrab bair if it isn't spaced well, so try to interrupt Wolf's bair spacing with dashing shields.

I didn't even know there was a Wolf in France lol, not bad :o

As long as you don't mash jump you should be fine, since Wolf doesn't force an air release on any character unless he's grabbing them over a ledge or on the higher side of a slope :p

i did not know ivy gets spiked by side-b out of air release

have you ever killed like that? can wolf even land it so that it spikes off-stage while still landing back on stage himself?

I have killed a LOT of people with air-release sideB lol, but it's usually a suicide kill reserved for their last stock unless they're silly and air-release unnecessarily. The only legit way to set it up is a dashgrab at the ledge, or at the end of a platform, or occasionally on tilted ground (Lylat, YI). It'll rarely end up with Wolf not dying; if the opponent is getting spiked offstage there's absolutely no hope for Wolf to get back alive unless it's something like the ghost platform on YI :troll: Honestly, the version that hits out is better for kills and whatnot, since it's actually a good idea on-stage when you have the opportunity.

On the note of Ivy getting spiked, since bullet seed has frame 1 invincibility, it SHOULD stop you from getting hit since the reason air-release sideB works is because of AD startup time. Marth can avoid it with a frame 1 invincible move, so I see no reason why Ivy can't do the same, although I've never experienced it.

Your matches are very enjoyable to watch :)
Good job at your placing :)

Mind if I ask you a question? Why Zard over Squirtle against DDD?

Flamethrower. We can actually manage to space without being at a great risk of getting grabbed.

Hi PTs, I'm back:bee: ...sort of. I started using PT again for friendlies but don't know how to be effective with the pokemon. I hope to improve with the help of a few critiques if anyone has some time to kill;). Thanks.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XFXbrXAUNWM&feature=youtu.be
At the end I couldn't figure out how to finish Wolf off with Charazard:c. Aside from gimping the only KO moves that work are Fsmash and rock smash. Frankly I don't know what to do besides some basic tactics. :urg:

...I still just play wifi.

Critique?

Reflex is too good.

I'm trying to use PT properly again. The opponent was easy so if PT mains could critique my tactics more than the MU that'd be helpful:).

(I'm Fsmash happy with charizard:c)
Lucas

(Ignore the SD:glare:)

The Kirby one is which I prefer to be critiqued because I use all 3 pokemon.
Thanks:bee:.

I started playing PT again and forgot how fun he is. Even if I'll never be great, I want to have a solid PT and know what I'm doing.

I watched all your videos. Just a few things (I don't know if you want critique, but whatever).

You're a bit too aggressive, no? Also, you try risky things offstage, when you could have simply grabbed the edge and use the invincibility frames to punish your opponent's recovery.

With Charizard, you also seem to be RockSmash happy. :p
Maybe you should consider doing a bit less? If you SH, Flamethrower is way better and safer if you see a shield coming.

Fair isn't great at all if it can't put your opponent offstage or kill him. You shouldn't be using it onstage, unless you are retreating it to use its good range to rack up ~2% damage and refresh your moves (but don't do this if your opponent has the mobility to punish it).

Also, Fly isn't that good, you could do it less, it's way too risky if you're not 100% sure it'll hit (i.e your opponent is charging a smash and you have no jumps to avoid it, etc...).
Don't Ground Release to FSmash systematically. It's good to beat spotdodgers, but it should stay a surprise move.

Maybe use more U-Throw? It does good damage and put your opponent is a bad situation (above you). Don't do it if you can put your opponent offstage, of course. :p

And tell the Fox main that airdodging isn't the best way to momentum cancel :laugh:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t7UKsW_prrE&feature=player_detailpage#t=113s

This reminds me that Charizard's DThrow is awesome to cause a suicide kill (if you wait a bit so the stage kill both chars). :p

Thanks for the tid bits :)

I do use Flamethrower a lot I guess just not in these vids ha. I just feel its more easily punished if you didn't hit them or miss. His fly does suck but to get back to the edge I use it all the time. I just feel really comfortable using it. I'll definitely try to work on incorporating more Uthrows and toning down my aggressive offense more.

O yeah that ha. I try to use that when I know I can or to get out of moves. I know I get punished for it but I'd rather give them some damage and take a little more. Yeah grab release to Fsmash works great, some people just naturally spot dodge and you can do it all the time. I usually test it out near the edge because if they do shield it'll push them off and you'll be safe from attack.
