btw lain, apparently you signed one of my fellow aussies' grab buttons during genesis... top marks. thats a win from the land down under. they reckon that ally and m2k didnt wanna know them, but you actually were willing to have a chat. and 9th is pretty freakin good... best we got was one person in the top 65...

dont let it get to you man, youve beaten the best, and can do it again. your apex matches against m2k inspired me to pick up the ics, cause it showed they were more than cgs, and were actually awesome when played right. keep up the good work man, and if youre ever in aus, send us a line and we'll organize something.

God...9th...out of 300?...You really are trash...
;)
We all know you're a beast. You'll do better next time, but think about the 291 people you did better than, not the 8 that did better than you ^^

I think people don't get the fact he doesnt like losing to people. Its a mentality top players have when they are the best in their region. Dunno if lain is anything like me, but yea i hate losing ever in this game lol. Its good he got 9th outta 300, but he himself knew he can do better than that.

True fact, i just believe that the only pressure he should get is the one he imposes himself, hence why i sometimes got really harsh with people who said stuff like lain will be 1st at genesis. Either way, as he said, he probably could have done better.

Anyone else thinks lain has a mental block vs ally?

Snake vs ic is a really hard match up. I barely mess up infinites on him now and still find the match up really hard when a snake knows what to do. Snake can pretty much predict your every approach. You have to wait for him to make a mistake to land a grab if hes playing it right.

Lain don't feel down about yourself you got 9th out of 300 you know how ****ing big of an accomplishment that is? it isnt the worst that could happen
and even tho you messed up you STILL manage to place that high in the rankings
and you feel down about yourself? come on man i know it's not the best placing you could have gotten but
we all know next tournament you will **** every single one of those players
don't let one single tourney make you feel down about yourself, cause sometimes you must be at the bottom to rise to the top.. altough 9th is a little bit higher then the bottom

you will always be the number one of icies
you are also probably the reason people pick up icies and probably everybody here wishes they were as good as you

lain, you´re a badass ic player. you know that.
i mean being 9th out of 300 people is amazing lol.

i still need to prove myself at a big tourney :/ but when i´d do that it would still be "in europe" lol.

and lain: it would be so amazing if you could beat ally at evo ^^ good luck there.

Thanks a lot guys. It really means a lot hearing from all of the regulars I know, and from the new people popping in :].

I ended up getting to Las Vegas for EVO at like 7 or 8 am on friday, thinking that singles was on saturday or sunday. The entire time before I got on my flight I was partying it up with rofa and we did a bunch of drugs and drank and hung out with homeless people. I got a call from Judge and was told that I wasn't in the bracket (since I foolishly didn't pre-reg). I ran up to try and sort things out and they were pretty adamant I wasn't getting in. After a bit, some AMAZING ****ING PERSON sold me their pass.

Now keeping in mind I had no sleep and was coming off of being SUPER ****ed up
john
, I lost first round LMAOOOO.

From there, I won like 9 or 10 sets in a row, finally losing to Ally (who lost to Mikehaze in winner's, but then bounced back to beat Mike again). So all in all I got 5th out of 128. So I did kinda worse proportionately XD; I beat countless top players in mm's however throughout GENESIS and EVO.

I learned a lot, not to mention got drunk at bars and casinos every day x_x. Meep is right, NO top player (or really any player for that matter) likes losing. When it gets at "pro level" it really gets to you for a lot of reasons. But reading all of these replies it makes me really happy and confident. It's hard for me to think "Yeah, I'm lain, this top player who has a lot of skill and is really smart". Every tournament I psyche myself out and go nuts hoping I'll do well and remember how to play the game right and stuff.

Thanks a lot everyone. Everything you all said will stick with me.

Good story lain.
I should copy you when I get older, and how seriously has drugs affected your gameplay? Lol.

Also, you should teach the Ice Climber's here a few things. :D

If its any consolation ive picked up smoking and drinking and look at me now im winning tournies LOL. Lain is really the model for how all IC mains should be.

but yea now im trying to quit. Doing those two things is definitely a life experience. It really does change you as a person trying it a couple times.

I liked that part the most :p

And...I really can't smoke stuff, it smells really bad, tastes horrible. I'd rather drink than smoke anyday. And I don't even like Beer either. Wine is meh. I guess I haveto stick with playing IC's the boring way. :|

Actually it's the other way around, lol. I prefer none, even if Filipinos do it 90% of their lives. xD

Would Brawl still be played once were older anyway?

I went D3.

He was just camping and throwing ****. I was not playing well by any means (**NOT HIGH**) and was literally running into everything for no reason.

I do not play well when sober people.

My next tourney is going to be at Clash of Brokenness Championships in Chicago. However, Ally is going there much to my dismay.

Right now I'm #1 in the circuit, as long as I place above Anther and Judge I'll win. But fighting Ally is going to be downright depressing. He's the only person in the world I don't think I can beat.

Well at one point we all thought M2K was unbeatable and the first thing i saw coming up after a month or so
"HOLY **** LAIN BEAT M2K" and people all over the place calling debt on your children
i think you'll do fine lain just try and look at common patterns in his playstyle and punish that... i bet it sounds pretty easy but it isnt
ah well just don't get drunk or high again Lmao
There is a way of beating him maybe you'll just have to play him a few times to recodnize common errors in his playstyle

I think you can do it lain
good luck

I feel the same way when I play him :/. He knows how to play against IC's perfectly. At least you have D3 to fall back on...I have GW to fall back on lol that's even worse for me :/.

I wanted to make some money from Hobo17 since it's MK banned so dojo isn't a big of a threat but randomly Ally/Mikehaze and a bunch of good players are going >_<. Now instead of dealing with trying to beat razers snake I have to worry about him AND ally.

Oh well.

i def. know that matchup alot better than ally b/c ive played meep a bajillion times...if any1 has a shot of beating ally its meep
You know ally has played with Ambrose a ton right? And against lain? And there is always the fact that he's a better player then you are.

Just because you have experience in a match doesn't mean you are better at it then someone else. You still lose to Meep don't you?

Ally has experience again Lain, Ambrose, myself and other climbers...You can't just assume you are better at the match-up.

yea id have to play ally, but i know a LOT about this match up and every vid ive watched of ic playing this match up they are doing it wrong. You cant ever run up and grab snake because he has frame advantage with his ftilt and jabs unless the snake is careless. Ally maybe better than candy, but candy's style is based literally off of beating ic. He will grenade camp you to hell lol and make you approach.

The last vids ive seen of him playing swordgard, swordgard coulda won if he actually landed his infinites. I really discourage all ic mains to fall back on their secondaries to beat snake because this match is winnable if you play perfect and smart. But thats how ic players roll amirite? We all strive to never mess up infinites and powershield every attack.

ive seen ally's matches vs both lain and ambrose and they both dont play the matchup right at all....and ally does do some mistakes where he could of been punished too....lain may be very talented....but he does not know that matchup that well b/c he relies on DDD vs snakes....i know that single handed b/c i had to play lain regional crews at apex 3stocks to 3stocks and i won...i did quite a few mistakes that an IC player that REALLY knew the matchup would of tookin advantage of and would of tooken off a stock....and no i dont lose to meep we go even....its the matter of who messes up worse btween ourselves...meep has perfect snake practice even though im not the best(ally) id like to consider myself the 2nd best...and since i am really good at camping and i know the IC matchup alot....i give meep the perfect snake practice......like i said meep has a very good chance of beating ally

Few people can **** and look as good as you do while doing it.

And I think you should add to the first post all the good players you beat. Don't be so down on yourself and focus on just the negative.

Then WHY is that? is it that he has "gone into your head(which he seems to do alot against players with granades)" very early when your ICs were not at todays level or that he has ALOT more practise in the matchup?

I´ve faced only one player like that, and that´s EK in melee at his prime, who was the first smasher I played at a local tournament after the first "big" one in sweden with international visitors. Last year when I faced him in tournament.
I must have thought of those matches which affected my play and got me 3-0'd, wrong mindset there which made me not play as I usually do but fail in alot of things.

I believe IC's should have alot of options against snake and that the key is to mix variation with simpleness to get those grabs and beat every snake in the world.

One random thing that comes to though in the matchup is abuse the fact that snake often ftilts, just IASA Grab it, probably shoudl work, I guess you have someone to test it with atleast...

I think that maybe the most important thing to think of before a match against a really good player, maybe even after losing the first match is to think about THIS: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r-rUKGJVvZg and what caused it to happen...

Ice Climbers is the character that pretty much has the best chance of making a comeback because of infinite 0-death grabs (more like 30-death cause ppl can break out of it earlier), so yea lain just use iceys everywhere and D3 when the stage isn't favorable.

You know, he could help you, that is his decision and his only.

But he does not have to make up for anything, his tourney placings are his alone and he does not in any way needs to prove himself to anyone, nor does he owe any victory to the ice climbers boards. You cannot say he has to make up for something if he never had to prove to you guys anything.

Lain is mad good, but should not be under the pressure he currently is.
