Technically they're as independent as you wish for them to be, considering you choose if/when you switch.

And we didn't give it to them, but we gave it to Peach and DK!

My one I had been doing pales in comparison. Mostly because I'd been trying to incorporate both pillars of moving platforms.

And that platform to the right. Is it stuck there? Can you drop through it or come under it?

The elevator still moves and the plat on the right is not fall through. You can come up from underneath it and also grab the ledge on the right.
