The thing is, what could they do to stop it besides what they've already been doing to stop homebrew? They can try to stop people from installing the hbc by fixing their firmware and auto-updating it, and eventually they will probably even be able to render the hbc useless through a firmware update. But if everyone using the hbc has the 3.2 firmware and refuse to update their wiis, then nintendo will never be able to stop anything.
Good. I really don't have much technical background at all, so this is a relief to hear.

It sounds interesting, but I think it's being taken in the wrong direction. It sounds like it's trying to make Brawl more into Melee (l-cancels, a more pronounced ledge game, hitstun etc.), but the real issues of Brawl are not being taken care of it seems. And that's balance. The game requires more balance, so while it's amazing that people can combo now (about time), it won't mean squat because the balance of the roster is too far out of whack.

I think that should be the number 1 priority with this code. Changes like how fast you fall, gravity, or whatever are very cosmetic and do not address the real issues with this game.
I can't help but notice that you really sound like someone who hasn't even tried Brawl+ yet. Most will tell you that the universal changes that are being applied shave a big chunk off of the balancing effort already, as Yeroc mentioned. The biggest example being characters designed for combos in a comboless VB now having a chance in B+ (fox, CF, ect.).

Hey, long time lurker, first time poster. I would just like to comment on something.

I like Brawl better than Melee. *Gasp!* I know, I know, I said something "bad". So I was hesitant to try Brawl+. In fact, I was ANGRY that you would take my favorite game and, as I saw it, try and make it Melee 2.0. But then I saw that you were taking out the Melee Air Dodge, so I realized you couldn't be purposefully making Melee 2.0. I then gave Brawl+ a shot, with the intent on saying "Oh, this is horrible! This new engine is gonna be used in tournaments, I'm gonna have to relearn the whole game, blah blah blah!"

I just have to say this: I don't think I've ever had more fun playing Brawl. The game was fast, furious, and even better, you can combo like crazy. I would turn the buffering code off, but other than that, it was amazing.

To the developers: you're doing God's work, gentlemen. The best of luck to you.

To anyone who is dissing it: give it a shot, first. If you don't like it, you can play normal Brawl.

I'm really glad to hear that someone would try it out and enjoy it.

It almost makes me motivated to get back to work instead of browsing forums.

Quick question;

Where is all the PAL versions if these codes?

Sorry if this has been asked before, but I found no link in the OP.

Could it be possible for someone to create a basic gct and txt file with codes already on it for the PAL (European) version and add it to the OP?

Some of this stuff is very confusing for a newbie like me... Thanks in advance to anyone that decides to help out!

I think this entire post should be quoted somewhere important! Front page, maybe?

You might also want to update "Dash Dancing" since we now have true dash dancing.

Also, you might consider adding links to a few "moderate" videos (i.e. Kupo's code set) and a few faster paced videos [your videos (which are excellent)].

Kupo's code set features no alterations to shorthops, fastfall, dashspeed, or gravity other than 1.1 down. This creates a slower feel than the videos you posted recently. I feel that until such a time as there is no dispute on a competitive set (ever?), it is worth showcasing both.

I'm an idiot. I completely missed the Are there any vids? question. Nothing to see here. Move along.

I think my codes should be posted somewhere, seeing as how I've had 2 requests to post them so far about 5 minutes after mentioning I made alterations to Kupo's set XD.

As in one set of codes that is "the set" or as in a master list of the competitive codes? If the later is what you are asking for, then it's already in the Brawl Agenda thread. If you are asking for the former, I don't think we can all agree on that yet. The good news is that most of it is universal, barring a few minor changes, mostly dealing with stun, dash speed, shield stuffs, fast fall speed, and a few other things.

The differences between mine and Kupo's set are as follows:

Downgravity is at 1.25 instead of 1.1 (1.1 is still way too floaty IMO. Down gravity doesn't mess up recoveries as much as it sounds on paper either.)

8% hitstun as opposed to 8.5% (my set needs less stun to get combos due to down grav increase)

Dash speed is at 1.17 instead of 1.2 (I think 1.2 was a bit too fast for the likes of CF, had a lot of complaints from my roommates cause it was too easy to tech chase. I might drop it to 1.5% in the future)

1.135 fast fall instead of 1.1 (I like my fast falls fast. I lowered this a bit from before so it's not as bad off the ledge. It was actually not bad before, but because of the c-stick down nonsense making you fast fall many people complained)

More stages frozen/reversed. I think I have Castle Siege, Pirate ship, and Norfair added to that.

I suggest something similar to what Osi said a while ago. Three different "standards" for now:

Mild - kupo's (closer to vBrawl)

Moderate - Mookie's or Almas's (additional gravity / dash speed / FF speed / shorthop mod )

Dramatic - Osi's set (1.4 dash / .8 SH / 1.2 FF / possibly highest gravity

While I see Kupo's likely used right now for tournaments due to its closer resemblance to Brawl and thus inherently greater accessibility, I and others probably won't budge too far from a faster set (Moderate/Dramatic).

can you make it into a nice little link using your purple powers so that it doesn't clutter up the faq?
Purple power is just SBR access. I used to be a mod, but I am no longer. When I was a mod I was only mod for Atlantic South, so yeah, I don't have any special abilities :-P.

well, i think we should kind of get this game feeling as fast as possible. the "mild" set is good for getting people acquainted, but we really need to instill the fact that brawl is a fast paced game. we need to do what we can to make it feel as fast as possible but keep it reasonable.

and having so many different codesets would just be confusing for someone who isn't familiar with it.. we should try to keep it simple. we need to discuss this!

in the mean time, im just gonna link to that post mookie, keep it updated.

Just looking at Osi's set makes me wonder what the heck is going on. Also, Kupo's set is only mild in comparison with my set and Osi's. It's still a drastic change from vBrawl. I think you should post mine and Kupo's.

I use 1.05 up grav, 1.1 down grav, .9 shorthop, 1.15 dash, 1.1 fastfall, and currently .49 hitstun. What does that make me? :p

Hello Smash Boards!

I read threads on smashboards very often, but nothing before has ever motivated me to post. I am a senior in high school and have a group with me who have been smashing for years. We started playing advanced after seeing the youtube video tutorial, we looked up to you guys for a long time. Me and about 5 others have had great times smashing. but since we are still in high school we never really went to tournaments. We decided Brawl would be our time to shine. I have went to one tournament. It was a small brawl tourney in chicago. I think it was called "Articuno confirmed for brawl." I love watching smash, i've spent hours in a row watching youtube matches that are uploaded on some of the big name smashers accounts. I could not sit through the brawl finals. My eyes and ears were distracted by the 1$ MM in melee going on in the corner. And suprisingly more people were crowded around the gamecube and the minitv then the brawl finals.

I didn't want to go back, and I didn't really, I played other smash games every now and then for nostalgia, sometimes with my crew. I spiritually left it while getting hyped for brawl, and brawl just wasn't as exciting or fun as it could have been. While playing brawl i felt like there was a lot of depth in each character, there was just a wall separating me from the characters depth.

While watching WOMBO COMBO!!!!!! I saw a link to this thread and checked it out.

I had no problem getting brawl+ running on my wii within 30 minutes.

Thank you thank you thank you thank you thank you thank you thank you thank you!!!! I owe the creators of this so much, the least i can do is give you one big e-pat on the back.

SERIOUSLY we are all in love with it! I know no one here probably knows any of us but you've changed our senior year and I'm going to college with a few of em and we are gonna play this a ton!!!

It is like the brawl we hyped ourselves up for is finally out. One of my friends went out and bought a copy of brawl because he sold it a week after it came out.

My friend said tonight "Oh my God Wolf is playing like I wanted him to play a year ago!"

And me in love with captain falcons epic manliness couldnt be happier with how he plays. He is by no means OP but he is fun again, and that is what is important!

We have started calling Brawl+ "B+" because we find that if we call it Brawl+ we end up calling it brawl for short. Just thought i would throw that out there.

Anyway thanks you have put a skip in my step and a smile on my face for the past few days. And you have unlocked and expanded a game that I see myself playing for years to come as it develops.

A non-gamer asked me about what we were talking about at school and I said I'm really excited because of a video game mod.

he called me a Nerd

and i said "Yes, but a very very happy nerd."

Thank you, I love this project!

also, we should get an IRC channel for this, or maybe if there already is one tell me!

(P.S. how many lines would it take to give Captain Falcon golden nipples?) XD

(P.P.S. We have tried out a lot of code sets and we really like mookies! we each primarily play a different character and we all are very happy with his set, I highly recommend it! but this is just a noobs opinion.)

Blah, I don't do IRC. Not mah thang. Here are my codes though.

I think that Mookie's codeset is hands down the best codeset currently being considered as a standard. I like my dashing and fastfalls slightly faster, and my hitstun higher (10%, though my downward gravity is set to 1.12) , but this set is eminently sensible, neither too drastic or too mild (as kupo's is imo). I like the greater number of stages reversed as well. I would back this codeset over any other presently proposed set, and I urge others to do so.

The one thing that I see as being seriously wrong with this set is the shorthop height being 1. Please try 0.9; It helps characters with high shorthops immensely and makes for a better ground-to-aerial game.

Haha. After reading Wumbo's post, I think we need a thread dedicated to, or a section in the OP of this thread, that has links to posts that describe how awesome Brawl+ is, and how it's changing people's lives! XD

Many people have complained to me a lot about the shorthop height still being at 1. I say to them that it nerfs some characters. I know that .9 helps more characters than it hurts, but from what Almas has said it's just a matter of time before we have character specific codes, and when that comes around I'll apply individual short hop heights that are preferable for most characters. I will probably set an almost global .9 and then keep characters like Mario, Ganon, maybe CF (honestly I have grown accustomed to his current short hop, and while it's more awkward at first, I question if a .9 short hop is actually better), and etc at one.

I would also like to apply up gravity for some characters, although that will be a bit more controversial. Then again, it would bring back "fast fallers" and I'm pretty sure we can come up with a list of characters that people wouldn't mind being fast fallers. Keep in mind this might be a passive buff, but it would also nerf their recovery, so I think if we make minor fine tuned changes for characters (like saying that nobodies up grav gets altered more than by more than 10%) people would end up liking it.

I personally hated 0.9 SH when I tried it.

I play Sonic, Ike, and Marth, all of which lose more than they gain from lower shorthops.

Sonic loses his SH fair, which is pretty much a staple to his combo game.

Ike loses his SH Bair, which is his only fast kill move .

Marth loses his SH double fair, which isn't that important, but still irritating (I can't do fair->uair combos:()
