I'll just put it this way, if I wanted negativity and pessimism, I'd hop on over to GameFAQs. I come here to see winners who only want to overcome! So far, the only difference I see here is people actually get reprimanded and disciplined for insulting others or using language. That's about it. "Hey, let's say the same thing everyone else is saying, but say it in a nice way!"

Nah man, I'm a winner. I don't accept loser's talk. I always have a can do attitude, or I remove myself from the situation and apply that same effort with something else.
People here are dedicated to maining one of the absolute worst characters in the game. I know the strat considering I mained :4dedede: for an entire year until I dropped him. They have absolutely every right to be pessimistic. If you only wanna see "winner's talk", then Zelda would have to be a viable character at top level... which she isn't. Their complaints aren't baseless.

Huh... are you saying online play takes no skill? Reads aren't applicable online? Landing a sick combo isn't satisfying? Hope you get a new car soon... then you'll finally understand our standpoint
Usually online play is so sluggish and strange that neither players can be at their best. I choose to play on equal ground Alacion.

BJN39, the fact that you use a character you don't even like, yet refuse to stop using her for some reason is nothing short of appalling.
What.

If you asked almost any Zelda here they could tell you how much I like playing Zelda. I was here day one ready to compile information and quirks of Zelda's design, and I'm constantly updating the data thread on Zelda here because I enjoy doing it. I think I already told you here I'm devoted to using Zelda. I can like a character and still be realistic (In this case have a less positive outlook) on how good they are. The two aren't mutually exclusive.

That said I'm only sounding so aggressively negative because I feel that you are ignoring what anyone here is saying because you don't agree, so I though I'd try to chime in. It didn't work and now you've added me to some list of Zelda's who don't know how to use her, and...don't deserve play her because I say negative things about her?

You can find posts around where I try to develop Zelda's meta game and facilitate discussion about Zelda, albeit less so in more recent times because discussion has been lower. Though I'm no pro, I almost always have something neat to add on a subject about Zelda, and sometimes someone learns something they didn't know as a result. Which I hope happens so that more people are aware of the things Zelda has. My actions here aren't the end all on how I am about Zelda.

Anyone else here that has replied as you say, "aggressively negative", seem to only be focused on the negatives instead of looking for the positives and try to take advantage of those. That is why I disagree. They're counting themselves out before they've even lost, and that's what I can't stand. They're all sitting on their butts waiting for some kind of superior buff that isn't going to happen! They're waisting their time complaining about things she doesn't have, instead of trying to find a way to cover Zelda's weaknesses with what she does have.

And it's this type of obnoxious response that proves you have absolutely no idea what you are talking about. There's optimism and there's ignorance. You fall into the latter category.

It is possible to still love a character while at the same time accept the fact that the character is not good.

It only makes sense that if you hate something so much, you get rid of it. I only assumed since she complained so much that she didn't like Zelda. But now I understand. It's not that he/she doesn't like Zelda, it's that he/she believed Zelda was just a bad character. Honestly it still doesn't make much sense to me. I don't believe Zelda is a bad character, and I never will. Just a character with difficulties I suppose. So if that makes me ignorant, it's a lot better than what you are.

Why are you even here? You know you could just not post here if you don't care about any of this, right? I don't go on professional wrestling boards to chastise people for discussing something I don't have any interest in because that would be stupid.

Please feel free to exit the character discussion boards and never return. That is your right as a member of this site.

Insulting people just for discussing the topic of the thread is immature and pointless and does nothing but start flame wars. So actually no, that is not necessarily your right as a member of this site. Grow up.

And what exactly am I? A person who likes a character but also accepts the fact that she does not perform well competitively? And this is a bad thing?

Go win a major tournament with Zelda and then get back to us. Until then, maybe you should stop throwing insults around when 99.9% of the community disagrees with you. I tried to be nice but you're clearly not somebody who is interested in listening to reasoning, so I think we're done here.

I liked this, but not because the content of your character, but because of the color of your skin.

What is this thread about?

Oh ok, Zelda being awful? Is she the worst? Probably not anymore, Puff is p bad. Is she viable? Ehhhh technically she has a slim chance if you are perfect with her. Is she any good? Hell no. Is it pointless to argue about? Ye probs, go out and fight some people and win some tournies if you think she's so great. If you think she's terrible go to YouTube and find clips of Zelda getting destroyed, that's what I do and it's actually pretty relaxing.

Also spam Reserved's profile page with "Goodbye Fern, hurry back." He'll know what it means.

You fool. Even I understand she's not perfect. But if I like something, I see something in it, unlike you. You're the one that insulted me. You have not been nice, nor tried to understand my reasoning, but I have already accepted she has flaws, however I refuse to accept these flaws make her the worst character, or make her unusable in competitions. I will keep faith in the things I believe in, while you can just let your faith die. I refuse to walk around with a chip on my shoulder just because I beat someone with, "the worst character in the game." You my friend can just go right ahead.

We should just lock this thread and ban discussions about Zelda's viability :secretkpop:
kidding but that would be hilarious and sad at the same time

The ironic thing is that the most veteran Zelda players (read:some of our best) are the most pessimistic ones.

Also lol at Zelda not working for BJN. That gorl has been here for years and has basically done 99% of Zelda's data (both Brawl AND Smash 4, mind you) without a ton of help. To say that Zelda doesn't work for him and that he shouldn't use her is completely ridiculous.

And tbh the Zelda boards don't even complain about their character nearly as much as other boards do. Heck, we just make jokes about her viability instead of being delusional like other bottom tier mains. But that's slowly going away though...

I will agree however that Zelda is underestimated. But that doesn't mean she's not still bottom tier.
Then there's some of the best which are VERY optimistic

wusgud ven & zolda

but honestly at this point, our best result is problem Ed (Purple Guy) getting 9th at Come To Papa beating Ryo.

Zelda's not terrible, but she's not good either. Her flaws do hold her back from being strong enough to make her being able to win a national.

The buffs did help. According to Meru's testing, on some characters, D-throw to U-air is guarenteed regardless of DI.

Although we're fairly pessimistic, that doesn't mean we won't try.

This is an outlook I can respect. You acknowledge that Zelda could be better, and you put up useful information. Maybe she can win or maybe she can't. Sorry but maybe is the most I'm gonna give. I'm not gonna say the words "never," or "impossible." These are words that don't exist in the athletic world, or in ANY world. I believe the only way to get better is to be confident and make the most of what we've been given for now.

Nah man, I'm a winner. I don't accept loser's talk. I always have a can do attitude, or I remove myself from the situation and apply that same effort with something else.
Please remove yourself from this situation, then. Nothing you say makes any amount of sense and is just delusional banter. At this point you just look like a kid covering his ears and shouting "I CAN'T LISTEN LALALALALA."

You're making a grave mistake in your binary approach to the situation. To you, it's either just being positive or being negative. This just in, bro, most of Zelda mains are realistic. If they were pessimistic, they would have dropped the character a long, long time ago (like I did).

The difference between these people and you, and your friend Silversomething too, is that they are aware that their character is trash. That's Zelda, she's trash. I won't even go into why she's trash because that's something that's been beaten to the curb a million times, and it's something that's so evident it hurts. But Zelda mains know her weaknesses, they are aware that their character is bad, yet they still hold on to her and put work into her. Does that sound like pessimism? No, because it isn't. That's actually the very definition of being positive.

What you two are doing isn't being positive. It's being delusional and ignorant. You refuse to acknowledge that Zelda is at a great disadvantage against pretty much every character in the game, and you refuse to acknowledge that she's just flat out bad, even though it's painfully obvious that she is. You're not doing any good for anyone here, not even yourselves, SPECIALLY yourselves, by looking down on people who give you facts and real, tangible data to prove you wrong, and you end up being offensive towards them. If there's anyone in this board that's actually dedicated to Zelda and advancing her metagame, that's BJN39 BJN39 . Telling him that he should just drop Zelda because he doesn't believe she's good is like if I kicked you in the nuts and spat in your face, so I really hope you apologize to him and realize that what you're doing here is just useless discussion that will go nowhere, and worst of all, that isn't even being useful to YOU because you refuse to take the advice and knowledge of people who are better, wiser and more knowledgeable about your character than you are.

Honestly, I stopped reading at "dropped the character a long time ago, like I did." I'm 33 years old. I'm not stupid. I know my favorite character has harsh flaws. I'm not failing to acknowledge that. What I'm doing is choosing not to obsess over them, and to keep trying anyway despite the disadvantages. Every step is a victory. And I'll keep on spending time here, thanks, and people like you can't make me leave.

But anyway, thanks for making me feel pretty good about the things I've been saying, because negativity doesn't last long in my mind, even in the face of adversity. So please, unless you have something positive to say, remove yourself.

Well **** I thought you were 12. My bad.

Your very adult posts and mentality has given me many a minute of amusement. See I can be positive too! On second thought, having the slowest jab and grab in the game is actually a good thing. Lol at ever believing Captain Falcon's jab was good.

Maxy pls. 69% of us swing that way.

When there are statements like this
My thoughts about all this are; I can't see how Zelda's neutral game is totally nonexistent. If someone wants to projectile camp Zelda, they're having a bad time getting it deflected back at them. If they want to hide near the ledge, that's a free Din's Fire to force a dodge or approach. I set my c stick to special for her, so if people try to be all smart, I can just do a nice fade away jump and they get a phantom in their face.

I honestly still think Zelda has a lot of options. You just have to be tricky and always mix it up. Don't give up, Zelda mains!
And this
Zelda is a great character to use. From what I've seen, with experienced users, she's much more capable than others make her out to be. ALL of her projectiles are powerful, you just have to know when and how to use them. She's got defensive moves as well as offensive moves that help deter and foil approaches from enemies. She's her own character, and that's what makes people so upset. She's everything BUT Sheik. Because she's not Sheik people see her as bad, which is extremely naive. Anyway, who cares? I'm still going to use Zelda, and I'm still going to beat people who use top tiers, so forget you!
It's really hard to take you guys seriously as being "good Zelda mains".

Have fun reflecting those Sheik needles, Pikachu Thunderjolts, Yoshi Eggs, Fox Lasers, and Water Shurikens. See where that gets you. And constantly using Nayru's against a non-braindead Samus/other chargeable projectile user is a horrible idea.

And why would anyone ever approach Zelda? Her projectiles are literally the easiest to avoid in the game. Spotdodge (hell even just shielding)beats both Din's and Phantom. The power of them is completely irrelevant because they will almost never land against anyone that isn't stupid.

Have either of you two actually fought someone before that didnt mindlessly approach you the whole match? Try it against someone good when you get a chance. It's not a fun time.

Alright, y'all lost me with the maxy thing. And I went and looked up "gorls" a few days ago. So Zelda mains... are "very gay men"? Perhaps that's not what's meant here. Anyway, I don't mean blind positivity. What I mean is, acknowledge the faults, but work through them. Focus on building the positive. And I'm sure there is some positive that can be worked with. Zelda is a strong character with strong KO moves. We just have to be precise, you know, and land those sweet spots.

I've seen this same kind of talk at the Lucina boards and I had enough of it there, so I'm just going to be the bigger man and let it roll off my back this time.

Dude I'll just be 100% up front. I quite honestly don't give a flying bird about what your opinion on Zelda and her viability is since it's not likely you'll ever make a living out of Smash for it to actually matter.

That said, the reason I came to this thread is to point out how disrespectful you are being to people who are 1) trying to help you by giving you more knowledgeable advice and undusting bad misconceptions you have about your character's tools, and 2) some of the most -if not flat out the most- pro-active people in the Zelda community.

BJN and Alacion are both really good players, and have both invested a lot of time and effort into Zelda's meta. Particularly BJN, since he's the one that, you know, gee, has actually spent time data mining her frame data, possible combos, custom frame data, kill percents, etc, etc, so that Zelda enthusiasts, disregarding differing opinions, can have resources that will help them be better at using the character. Every time a new patch comes out, he's right there, making new threads, gathering information, refuting placebo effects and so on. Not only that, he makes his best effort on a daily basis to keep one of the busiest (and most internally conflicting) communities in SWF afloat, despite having these so-called "positive Zelda" kids trash talk him behind his back because of his more down-to-Earth opinions.

Instead of heeding the words these people are offering you, however, you are just covering your ears and talking about positivity instead of actually taking in the knowledge of Zelda's MUs and tools. And that's just pretty ****ing terrible.

So, now that I had to be completely direct, I hope you'll finally be able to get something actually positive out of this thread, whether in the form of new comrades, new and more accurate information about Zelda, and more awareness about your character. I have little to do here anymore, so I'll just leave and hope you realize the fault in the attitude you took towards our veteran Zelda players and become open to learning something new from them.

I am the one being disrespectful? Sorry, I didn't know it meant disrespect to have the attitude of "yes my character has weaknesses, but these are her strengths and here's what we can do to improve them." I haven't called anyone out like some people. I haven't said anything along the lines of "this is childish behavior." I have a brain, that brain is capable of storing information. Everything everyone is telling me about weaknesses, YES I KNOW.

If I wanted this kind of discussion, I'd go to GameFAQs. This isn't the caliber of communication I'd expect from a place like this. I'm disappointed.

I meant no offense from any of my words, and if anyone feels offended, please specify which part of what I said so that I can reply, "I meant no offense."
