#1: TC is right, the word 'mindgames' is overused and we need to actually understand what we're saying when we use that word to accomplish anything.

#2: Mindgames DO exist. Really simple example: I was playing Peach and my friend was playing Fox. I had just picked up Peach so he didn't realize quite yet that using the reflector against her turnips wasn't a great idea as it often did nothing. We were on Dream Land and he was on the right side under the platform. So I took advantage of this. I grabbed a turnip, floated a little and threw it at him. He used his reflector except the turnip hit the top of the platform instead. I took that time to rush in and attack.

Mindgamed. I tricked him into making himself vulnerable by creating a small threat which he tried to take advantage of which in turn lead to his demise.

Proverbs, stop talking. All of you, stop talking. You're all just reposting the same "arguments" that are one EACH AND EVERY SINGLE PAGE. None of you understand the OP's intent.

I was playing mango the other day and he mindgamed me so hard

it was the middle of a match and he started looking to the side like there was something really interesting going on

I looked over for a second and he destroyed me while I wasn't paying attention

I believe that mindgames to exist, but people just spam the term now most things are considered "mindgames". It's all just prediction.

Mindgames are just acting in a way that would make the opponent's response predictable, and then countering it.
Like holding a shield untill the opponent tries to grab, then sh something

I think prediction is a better word, you're not really like inside their heads and seeing what they see, you're just trying to think similarly to them so that you can predict their next move and counteract it.

...Mindgames do exist in Smash, believe it or not. I believe there are countless threads within the forum that describe each and every single one that's been developed.

Whether you choose to acknowledge them or not is entirely up to you.

As for "intangibles" in sports...well, I think you need to take a closer look. Football's a really good example of mindgames in action. Those pretty formations on the field aren't part of a ballet, man; they're strategic placements of each player. And the whole "audible" thing that QB's pull? Yeah...that's meant to throw off the defense and confuse them.

We need to bring back how often we would say "mindgames." It was a mindgame in itself in response to when someone would ask you what they need to work on in their game

Now we say more specific things like baits, mix up, and conditioned. I miss mindgames though.
My point is its the perfect method of weakening your competition. They ask you what they need to work on- you say "mindgames." Now what the hell do you really mean? No one knows. They'll be wondering for months. Also, you're the guy that originally posted wombo combo huh? Sup bro! Nice to see you're lurking around here
