Lylat Cruise is one of my favorite stages. Background's sweet and the music's good, too. My favorites are:

1. Star Wolf (Not a Wolf fan by the way.)
2. Tunnel Scene from X.
3. Corneria
4. Area 6

Also, I have little discrepancies with the stage layout.

Corneria

Pros:
+Low ceiling makes it so much easier for Mario to K.O vertically.
+You can Jab Lock someone into a Wall Infinite.
+Characters can Chain Grab you with the slopes (Well Dedede still can I presume)

Neutrals:
+/- The ships can damage either you or your opponent.
+/-Projectiles get 'screwy' and approaches do too.

Cons:
-Is it harder to K.O with Fsmash on this stage?
-Less platforms and weird slopes on this stage make it harder to deal with projectiles.

I think a 40:60 in opponent's favour.

Norfair is awesome for Mario.

Platform-dependent, aerial-friendly, and hazards that Mario can capitalize on. Also, ground opponents have a harder time fighting here. Most of all however, this is the #1 Counterpick stage for DeDeDe.

Gimping is of course harder here, but you shouldn't really need to gimp here.

Norfair really screws over DDD, Diddy, Sonic, and the Ice Climbers. On the flipside, it gives major buffs to tether recovery users like Olimar, Link, Ivysaur, Zero Suit Samus. Ganondorf also does very well on this stage due to being able to Ganoncide you without the suicide part.

All in all, a useful counterpick stage. The layout is also good for fireball camping.

This stage sounds really good, maybe I should mix this one up with Rainbow Cruise.

The list as of so far.

Norfair

Pros:
+Grounded opponents have a tougher time fighting here.
+Dedede cannot infinite you due to the stage hazards.
+Mario has better Fireball camping, due to multiple platforms.
+Easier to Cape stall, and Cape glide, useful for mindgames.
+Mario can cape stall through the lava wall. (Woah, I seriously didn't know that!)
+More options to recover, due to the three platforms.
+Platforms help Mario's aerial combo game.

Neutrals:
+/- Small blast zones.
+/- hazards can screw you up or the opponent up.

Cons:
-Harder to 'gimp' on this stage.
-Helps characters with tether recovery like Olimar, Link, Ivysaur, Zero Suit Samus, etc.

Norfair is a **** counterpick for Mario. FLUDD can be used to push opponents into fire, cape can be used to do the same...

We really need to be using this thread a LOT more, guys.

I've noticed a lot of people tend to shield the moment they land and if they think you're going to attack, they'll spot dodge. Try making them land on the top platform and then get in range for a sweetspotted stutter-stepped Fsmash. If your opponent falls for it, they'll spotdodge and allow you to run up and Usmash for the kill.

Eh...I'd put it 60:40 in Mario's favour just to due to the fact that it's harder to gimp characters on this stage.

By the way Mariofan, Pokemon Stadium 1 is our last stage in the Starter/Counter list that we haven't discussed yet. I think we should go finish that list next. You can check it out on page 7 of this thread.


Anyone else have anything to add?

Water Stage

Neutrals:
+/- Hard to score K.O because of Windmill.
+/- Stops both your's and opponents projectiles.

Cons:
You can easily mis your up B on the stage due to the edges akward edges.

Dang, can't believe no one posts in here, this forum is really good for seeing what stage you'd do better against certain characters.

Uurgh, Mariofan, I don't really have anything else to add, and this stage is uncompleted :(. I say if it doesn't get too much attention in the next days, we should switch stages and leave that one for discussion later.

But that's entirely up to you.

Bump, anyone have anything to add? I've never really played on these stages but I'll try, to list the pros/cons.

Pros:
+/You can Cape the lasers.

Neutrals:
+/- Helps/breaks Fireball camping because of the slopes.
+/- Very small blast zones.
+/- You or your opponent (depending on their move) can 'stage infinite' you/you can Jab Lock infinite opponent.

Cons:
?

I personally believe infinites here hurt mario than it does advantageous for him.

I think alot of characters do alot better here than mario which can hurt him in a way :/

GaW can bucket the lasers =o

If your gonna camp on the fin, you have to tech 100% like it's melee <3

Aah, the words... like it's melee...

Anyways, I think this stage is kinda' neutral for Mario. The slopes kinda help with fireballs, but I dunno. Get caught in an infinite here against a wall, though... err, not good.

You lost a stock if you got infinited on the wall lol.

The slopes on the fin give him a aid in SH fireballs but not full hop fireballs because they can run through and expose his blind spot.

I'm leaning neutral as well.

I think +/- is a neutral but, camping on the fin like Dthrow airchasing leads to quick racking up damage is good o.0 idk if its neutral or pro
