Brawl minus looks the dopest. It balances things by making everyone overpowered and more skill is reqiured than Super Smash Campers Brawl.

Balanced brawl is alright, though I'm not really interested in re-learning the metagame for something not everyone has and plays competitively.

Acer you should also attend Valhalla Aug. 21st, as they are just starting to pick up smash. I'll be running the tournaments there.

I'll bring Brawl+ and BBrawl to the next StreetGeek if people want.

Will there be Melee at the next StreetGeek? I can't find any information on the site...

@Apollo
I'll probably be there, how big will the scene be in your opinion?

Ah K, I knew it was RetroLAN but some guy on the facebook page said it was just a name.
Will they have controllers for 64? Both of mine have sticks that are munted beyong belief and I've actually been forced to main a different character with them (Falcon) cause I can't play properly with Ness.

From the recent Reloaded turnout, I'd say an attendance of 10-15 is the mark I'm aiming for with the Valhalla crowd. This is the first tournament mind you, and the organisers at Valhalla will consider a turnout of 6 to be a success xD

I hope some of the SG guys will turn up as well, including you GrimTuesday and Jamage!

There is a $50 prize for this tournament, and hopefully if we get some sponsership we can keep pumping out prizes each tournament.

Excuse my ignorance, but what does SG stand for?

Hey Apollo, you up for a money match on the day?

Somehow....
I've ended up back in SA.
I dunno for how long but for the next 3 weeks at least.
I have the option of going back to Victoria, sometime.

I'm up for a meet or something, I guess.
My family are ********.
Tried to get away from my mother but end up tangled with my brothers.
WHO ARE WORSE HAHAHAHA!

Anyway, Grim, are you the guy I played Melee with a bit at Reloaded?
I'm short, dark hair, olive skin.

I also sound slùtty, atm.

I think so, I was the youngest one there. I used Random in Brawl and Ice Climbers/Puff primarily in Melee, with a bit of Pichu and Ness as well? I played Arakune in BlazBlue if you were watching that as well...

I am also up for a meet if you're interested Gaga.

SG Stands for StreetGeek, lol.

Umm, yeah, I'd be up for a meet. Hopefully more than just us two though, Grim lol. Stupid anti-social SA.
Anywhere, really, I'm kinda bouncing from Victoria to SA atm, so I can travel. I don't play anything other than Melee/Brawl though, minus maybe some random games like Super Monkey Ball/Perfect Dark, or whatever. I'll figure stuff out and PM you. I still have to figure out if I'm going to be in Victoria next week.

tl;dr - meets are good.

StreetGeek, of course, *Facepalm*

Of course it wouldn't just be us two, we could ask Apollo and Jamage, maybe others like Tibs or Dave (unlikely). ****, we used to have a large scene here, what happened?

Hmmm... I've always wanted to do an outdoor Smash fest... Anyone in favour say I!...
Too bad that is next to impossible...

I got a few N64/GCN/Wii games I could bring, only good multiplayer ones are MK64/Wii, Smash 64, Diddy Kong Racing 64, Soul Calibur 2... That's all I think.

1. Nova are you still going to the tournament Melbourne on Saturday 7th?

Also

2. Do you guys have WC3 Tower Defense but not Normal WC3 tournaments? That's what I got from reading Jamage's post. Why not normal Wc3?

I dunno, people are just hard to motivate into things like this.
I'm easy, like, usually if I'm given a date I'll show up unless someone dies.

It's extremely hard to motivate SA's smash scene, though - I've tried (Tibs is Vic, btw).
Then I just get snarky when people don't do what I think. Yes, I'm fair like that.
Apollo and Jamage might, but I dunno about anyone else.

In terms of "what happened" to the large scene, it was before my time but apparently Brawl killed it. But, I dunno, I've been to other states and seen healthy Melee scenes (some healthier than Brawl counterparts, like QLD) so lol, it's just lol.

Edit: Splice, I don't know. 50/50.

StreetGeek tournaments used to be great when DJB, Ant, W150, Desert Eagle and his brothers used to come. I don't know why they stopped coming. I'm still interested but I'm not any good and I don't really have time to play that's why I don't go to Smash Meets or whatever, just StreetGeek and Reloaded.

Meets are pretty flexible and are the perfect opportunity for you to improve your skills in a relaxed environment. Try come if you can!

I dunno, people are just hard to motivate into things like this.

If you do organise something, shout me a PM and I'll see if I can come. Weekends only unfortunately. The sooner the better, or close to the Valhalla event.
Good to see you are still alive and well Nova.

Brawl has been out for over 2 years, it's hard to stay interested in a game for that long.

Perhaps if nintendo had a better online system similar to xbox live then maybe i would still play.
It would be great if u could download extra stages or even new characters.

DS's coz they are easy, everyone has them and in case people get bored of smash.
I have a 64, you could just bring games and any decent controls you have.

Everyone there will get an advanced screening of my Streetgeek viral vid and my unfinished Brawl Montage.
People there can also help me with this SA Smash document ive been working on.

Cheers! Is it alright if I tell Dave the address as well?

My N64 controller's sticks aren't too flash, but the rest of them works fine.
I'll be bringing: Diddy Kong Racing, Smash 64, Mario Kart 64/Wii and Soul Calibur 2.

Streetgeek viral vid :O
Unfinished brawl montage :O
SA Smash document :O

With all of this stuff you have to show, I wish I had a working demo of Deviant :(

I'll PM you Jamage once I get things with my brother sorted out.
I wanna deport him. :@

Edit: For tournaments I suggest our rules be looked at with regards to neutral stages (I for one don't find FD very "neutral") and stuff for Brawl.

Well since you asked for our opinion, I say the counterpick list is respectable with the following exception:

  • Port Town Aero Dive
The blastzone is extremely small, and the proximity of walls near the walkoff zone allows for effective camping. The hazard is fine as warning time is ample and knockback is low despite the percentage delt being high.

EDIT: Got that confused with the Onett stage, I still dislike port town anyway.

I'm with Nova about the neutrals, I disagree with almost half the stages listed.

Keep in mind that CP =/= A Perfectly Fair Stage.

I don't see the problem with neutrals aside from possibly Orpheon. Remember that stages should be chosen through stage striking, not random.

If you are looking for a "Random" neutral stage list, I'd suggest:
Battlefield
Halberd
Lylat Cruise
Pokémon Stadium
Smashville
Yoshi’s Island

With the others as CPs.

EDIT FOR YOUR EDIT: Disliking a stage is not a reason to ban it. Chances are not many characters will pick it.

I'll explain on Sunday but imo we shouldn't ever have more than 5 neutrals.
CPs sure, but not neutrals.
Alright, but it's pretty much subject to opinion. Do you go in the Stage Discussion Boards often?

Either way, as long as everyone agrees on the CPs we can choose one of the following by vote:

3 Stage Starter System:
Battlefield
Smashville
Yoshi's Island (Brawl)

5 Stage Starter System:
Battlefield
Lylat Cruise
Pokémon Stadium/Halberd
Smashville
Yoshi’s Island (Brawl)

7 Stage Starter System:
Battlefield
Lylat Cruise
Pokémon Stadium
Halberd
Smashville
Final Destination
Yoshi's Island (Brawl)

9 Stage Starter System:
Battlefield
Lylat Cruise
Pokémon Stadium
Halberd
Smashville
Final Destination
Castle Siege
Delfino Plaza/Frigate Orpheon
Yoshi's Island (Brawl)

Or something similar to those.

Yeah they're much more agreeable.
The 5 list is also on par with the current worldwide suggested list thing.
If you use PS1 anyway.

Hmmm... My opinions on your list are:

I believe Final Destination over-centralizes gameplay on camping because of it's large uninterrupted horizontal size and gives characters with a chain-grab an almost instant win on the stage. I don't think my D3 ever lost on this stage while I was in my prime. I think Halberd is a fairer stage.

PT:AD is fair. The cars are avoidable, despite their high knockback and the walk-off camping is incredibly insignificant.

Distant Planet is fair. The walk-off isn't terrible, and the waterfall stops it completely. The supposed circle-camping around the leaf is no where near bad enough to consider banning it.

Pictochat has a safe zone where you can avoid every hazard with minimal effort. The hazards are not skill-marginalizing or over-centralizing enough to warrant a ban.

What is your reasoning for making Lylat Cruise a CP?

Of course, we can discuss this in greater detail Sunday, as gaga said.

Eh, I don't think Castle Siege is good idea for Starter. Walk off boundaries and stuff.

Really I think that the 5 starter stage list we have now is fine, the CPs could use some work though.

Siege's walk-offs are only there for one transformation, and there are platforms to assist in avoiding them. Projectile spam is also make more difficult because of the statues.

The main problem with the 5 Stage Starter system is it provides too much advantage to some characters, let me give you an example:
Ice Climbers can force an opponent to play on Battlefield by banning PS1(or Lylat) and Yoshi's. After winning the round on the better neutral for them, they counterpick Smashville or FD (whatever isn't banned) and they move in to the next round.

There are countless other examples with many other characters as well. Falco can be thought as another one and many characters as well vs MK or Snake.

This means that the same 5 or so characters will keep winning tournaments because they just do so darn well on the Starters. 9 Stages should theoretically increase the number of viable characters slightly and diversify gameplay.

Any arguments against the counter-pick stages other than "They could use some work"?
