I said a while back I didn't want to be a part of the BBR, but **** it. Some people want me to apply, so why not.

1. Are you a tournament host or co-host? If so, how successful are your tournaments, generally, and do you do anything different from the norm that you feel provides a better experience for the players than usual? If not, how are the tournaments in your area usually run? Is there anything unique about them?
I'm working on it. I want to start hosting monthlies, and if that works, biweeklies, because the bavarian smash scene is just kinda... empty. I've sort of hit a stalling block in the form of "WHERE DO I HOST THIS THING" though. I'm working on it, and expect to start hosting tournaments at the very latest near the start of next year.

The tournaments in my region... Well, I've been to a grand total of one, with like, the only host within 2 hours driving. And his style is awesome, but his ruleset is... German. Gah. No RC = fail.

2. What part of Brawl do you know the most about? Do you specialize in a character, or know of some or all of the cast, or do you instead look into the game's physics? Maybe you prefer researching into the proper mindset and thought processes? Give your answer here.
Stages. Stages are my big thing. That and dealing with scrubs on the forums. You've probably seen my guide on PS2, and I'm going to be working on analysis of Norfair, which will suck, and might not be done for another few weeks (few weeks after I get my sorry lazy *** off the computer chair and onto brawl).

3. How often do you attend tournaments? How familiar are you with your local scene? Your regional scene? The nation?
1. Whenever I can go to them (not often; there's like one in the region every few months :( )
2. Fairly familiar... still working on it
3. Not really
4. Eh... Staco, Raven, Mr.R > most people?

4. How is your overall tournament performance? Please link results, if available.
Last weekend was my first smashfest, placed 4th out of 20 players, losing to the guys who placed second and third respectively. Not bad for the first tournament. I'll update this if anyone ever hosts another smashfest in the area.

EDIT: Now that GSB is back up, link: http://forum.germansmash.de/thread.php?threadid=13447&threadview=0&hilight=&hilightuser=0&page=1

5. Reshiram or Zekrom?
If you guys weren't ******s, this would be "Lugia or Ho-oh?".

6. What aspect of the game would you like to see the BBR look into/work on?
BETTER MATCHUP DISCUSSIONS. Seriously, those last ones were pretty bad. That, and several metagame aspects, such as better BBR representation. Seriously, you guys get almost no respect from anyone established in the smash scene. It's kinda sad. :( Gotta get this **** to work.

7. Finally, if you haven't already, please link to posts of any contributions you have made in the past; what do you feel you would bring to the Brawl Back Room?

I have a fairly long list of posts like this, these are just a few of the best ones, showing that I have fairly large competence in such matters. I would bring various ideas of upping the general acceptance of the BBR among the community, a large basis of stage knowledge, and tons (TONS!) of free time.

6. What aspect of the game would you like to see the BBR look into/work on?
I would like the BBR to start working on the mid to lower tiers. I feel the top/high tiers are pretty solid in terms of where they are at. They aren't going to move that much from here unless something drastic happens. However a lot of our understanding of the lower tiers is still bleak. Several players have shown there is a lot of potential untapped here.(San with ike, TKD with fox, choice with wolf, xyro with samus, among others).

Hello. I'm KirinBlaze a Mario/Link Main from Long Island, NY. You may or may haven't have heard of me, but that is irrelevant. I'm applying for the BBR because it has always been a goal of mine to become a member of one of its members and work to change some things already within it. I think I would be a good addition to the backroom because of my extensive Low Tier Knowledge, good use of logical, and overall above average understanding of the competitive game and how it works.

1. Are you a tournament host or co-host? If so, how successful are your tournaments, generally, and do you do anything different from the norm that you feel provides a better experience for the players than usual? If not, how are the tournaments in your area usually run? Is there anything unique about them?

I am but a humble co-host when PD or Will decide to host something in our local area, for the most part. The tournaments in our area are run very well, and very efficiently. We have a variety of great tournament hosts such as Inui, Alex Strife, Wes, Keitaro, Doom Will, and PD just to name a few.

2. What part of Brawl do you know the most about? Do you specialize in a character, or know of some or all of the cast, or do you instead look into the game's physics? Maybe you prefer researching into the proper mindset and thought processes? Give your answer here.

Low Tiers. I myself am a Low Tier main playing Mario and Link in tournament since the games release in March of 2008. I know these characters and other Low Tier characters very well. I also very much enjoy watching videos and breaking down players as well as my opponents, looking into their mindsets, decision making, and habits. I find it all very interesting.

3. How often do you attend tournaments? How familiar are you with your local scene? Your regional scene? The nation?

I attended tournament just about every weekend here in my region and I attended just about every National Event that has been hosted for Brawl thus far. I am extremely familiar with my local scene as well as region, probably being best acquainted with New Jersey, New England, MD/VA, and parts of Maine.

4. How is your overall tournament performance? Please link results, if available.

Consistent is the word I would use, I have my tournaments but for the most part I usually place within the top 50% of total entrants. While I am considered one of the top players for my characters I do realize my characters are indeed ranked 31st and 36th respectively. I consider myself to be a very good player who is simply held back by his characters. Right now I'd say I'm definitely High Level player. As Doom has said countless times, my characters are just..booty.

Here's a link to my recent tournament results.
http://allisbrawl.com/history.aspx?id=11305

Some more notable things over the past summer, wins, placings, etc:

Defeated MintyFlesh 2-1. (Mario/Link vs Marth)
Defeated Doom 2-1 (Snake vs Meta Knight)
Defeated ChiboSempai 2-0 (Link vs R.O.B.)
Placed 65th of 250 at MLG Columbus
Placed 33rd out of 148 at MLG Raleigh

5. Reshiram or Zekrom?
Reshiram. Simply because Fire is my favorite type/element of them all. <3

6. What aspect of the game would you like to see the BBR look into/work on?
Mid/Low Tiers. I feel like just because these are, for the most part, un-viable characters doesn't mean they should receive less time being looked over than everyone else. This new tier list has shown that to me, they are not looked at well enough to be placed correctly, especially Mid-Tier. I myself would very much like to work on Low Tier thanks to my extensive knowledge of the characters that reside there.

7. Finally, if you haven't already, please link to posts of any contributions you have made in the past; what do you feel you would bring to the Brawl Back Room?

While I don't have anything on hand, I am a large contributor to both my character boards (SWF for Mario, AiB for Link while I am working on making more of an appearance in the SWF Link Boards.) I've worked on Link's Match-Up Thread (AiB. It's currently under AfroTwist.) and well as posted in other character boards match-up discussion whenever I've been asked. I also make regular visits to places like BrawlFriendCodes to share information and post opinions with the players there as well.

I agree on Xyro's note: Low/mid are fairly unnoticed.

I agree with ike being good. A good player will be able to keep any opponent within some distance and space super well to keep them coming into that unsafe zone. Only a few characters, IMO, have the tools to consistently halt that pressuring from Ike (snake? marth? ness is actually not too great, despite his good fair spacing, pkfire and pkt; falco to an extent, but can get rocked in some instances; a couple others I'm forgetting atm). Samus is really good, I must agree with that. Only a truly skilled player can master setting up everything (missile pressure is somewhat obvious, but being able to combine that with an accurate approach is insane). Ness, IMO, should be getting a slight boost, but his GR failure is what puts him at a disadvantage versus many characters. Marth is really the only straight-up counter to ness, IMO, with DDD, Falco, Snake, MK, and Ike (imo) having some weaknesses that Ness can capitalize on, putting them at partial advantages (I say 60:40 for all those mentioned, but ike maybe 55:45) (DDD is large, and his aerials come out somewhat slow, but his chaingrab, utilt, and other things prove fairly large assets; Falco is lasers... thanks for health, I say, because it is simple to pick off every single laser fired... ness mains can do that, but I feel they aren't using psimag as well as they can... otherwise, CG > spike is annoying (just don't get grabbed at low percents, which ness mains should be masterful at), GR Usmash for falco = kill early, and a couple other things generally favor falco; Snake has quick tilts, GR utilt, good range, etc... but we've been given a partial saving grace, as snakes can be psimag wind gimped if they are using c4 recovery, and we can do really well when snake is in the air (only thing is his nair is annoying), but still in snake's favor; MK can gimp us, kill fairly quickly, and have GR chain... this match just isn't as much of a pain as marth or the previous characters above... I need to remember why; Ike has dominance in short range and can outspace us a lot, but we have a couple of stuff to get behind him and/or around him with some sort of protection). a couple other characters are getting good reputation as well

My name is Denti. I'm a Texas Olimar main, I'm the highest ranked Olimar in Texas. TX power rankings http://www.smashboards.com/showthread.php?t=226443

I travel almost every week to a Brawl tourney. I've been to Oklahoma, Dallas, San Antonio, Houston and Austin tournaments. I'm very active in the brawl community.

I'm also pretty active on AiB. I've made the AiB playoffs and top 20 on the ladder. My ladder Profile http://allisbrawl.com/profile/Denti.ai

I have very few videos on the internet, but if it means anything here is a link to one of my teams matches. Sethlon and me VS Espy and K prime.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xertt6njckc&p=6C0D01D9EDFA8DC7&playnext=1&index=14

I've also held a tourney of my own. http://www.smashboards.com/showthread.php?p=10874829#post10874829

Here is a post on the Olimar boards by me discussing how a player figured out how to make Olimar's pikmin disappear, which is a big deal for Olimar mains to defend against.

1. I've held one tournament but it wasn't that successful, around 15 people showed. I usually attend Phase and Hobo, Texas brawl tournaments. They're unique because hobo is always a huge turnout, around 40-60 people and phase is unique because it brings the Oklahoman, Kansas and Texas smashers together.

2. I specialize in Olimar. I know his pikmin front and back. I specialize in his pluck percentages on each stage/platform, his pikmin priority, the frames and distance each pikmin travels and character pikmin specialization.
I understand stages very well also. I believe I have immense stage knowledge. My knowledge extends to everything, such as YI glitches to the alligator timing on JJ.

3. I attend a tournament every time there is one, which is practically 3 times a month. I'm well known in the south by all the brawl smashers. As for the nation, they only know me threw Texas tourney results, wifi on AiB and threw my post on smashboards.

4. My tournament performance is always AT LEAST top 7. But on my good/amazing days I rank top 3-4.
This is the Olimar tourney results board, containing all of my recent results.
http://www.smashboards.com/showthread.php?t=242829

5. It's quite simple actually, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Dp0Bt2cbcc8

6. I would like to see stages and ledge grab limits discussed more thoroughly, hopefully it could balance the game more for the mid and low tier mains.

7. I would bring a better balance to the BBR because I'm a top Olimar main who lives in Texas which has a large variety of character mains that are top players. I would be able to bring a louder voice from the south on stage discussion and ledge grab limits. Texas is known for bending the limits, people are always taking matches to the time limit and choosing stages that take apart some character's metagame. My personal experience on the subject is great and would be fantastic for the BBR.

thanks!

If you believe you are qualified to become a member and wish to become one, please post here with your name, any description of yourself and possibly links to some of your posts as good examples of what you might contribute to the BBR,
My name is Kyle, but even by my close friends, I am usually known by my tag. KIDGoggles. Nobody ever uses the full tag in speech other than when my matches are being called out at tournaments. As such, you may call me either KID, or Goggles, however, I must request that if you call me KID in type, that you spell KID using all caps, as the name is an acronym for something that is rather important to me.

I am a Brawl main and a Melee secondary from Rochester, New York, about 6 hours northeast of NYC. I main Sonic and Falco in Brawl and I think I am very qualified to be a part of this group.

Questions:
1. Are you a tournament host or co-host? If so, how successful are your tournaments, generally, and do you do anything different from the norm that you feel provides a better experience for the players than usual? If not, how are the tournaments in your area usually run? Is there anything unique about them?
Well, previously, I was a TO in my region.
I have recently retired from TOing due to personal regional issues. (as evidenced by my regionless sig lol.)
My tourney attendance was very good compared to the size of the region at the time.
When i ran my tourneys, I always tried to make them for the people attending and let them have a say on the rulings. But at the same time I know more about the game then them, so I would try to explain my PoV when implementing rulings that not everyone always understood.
My "Stylin on You" Series.VVV

http://www.smashboards.com/showthread.php?t=264385
http://www.smashboards.com/showthread.php?t=285492
I also played a big part in Co-TOing the Syracuse Smash Series, the other tourney series in my region
http://www.smashboards.com/showthread.php?t=278201

I have had very liberal stage lists in my tourneys (especially for the AN) including pictochat being legal far before it was standard, japes being legal as a CP and hanenbow being legal CP for doubles. this forced my attendees to learn the stages and actually play on them, which usually led to them having a greater understanding and seeing that said stages are viable for tourney play.
Should I ever run another tourney, I would probably make PS2 a nuetral.

2. What part of Brawl do you know the most about? Do you specialize in a character, or know of some or all of the cast, or do you instead look into the game's physics? Maybe you prefer researching into the proper mindset and thought processes? Give your answer here.
I pride myself in knowing more about brawl as a whole than the vast majority of people. I know the most about Sonic and Falco, since they are the characters i play in tourney. I would say I know more about Sonic than just about anybody. I also have san and pikapika in my region and as much as I practice against them, id say I know more about Ike and pikachu than half of the people that main those 2 characters I also seriously play, fox, kirby, wolf, ZSS, sheik, zelda, PT, MK, Pit, Tink, ike and I at some point dabbled in luigi, peach, ICs, Gwatch, DDD, lucario, ganon and I think a few others. Id say I know the basic ideas, and strategies of every character in the game.
I hate being caught off guard and I love hitting people with things they dont understand, so Id say I know the in depth details of most of the niche aspects of the game. Grab releases, dacuses, ledge options, frame data, airdodge and platform physics and things of the like.
I am a very smart player so I also take pride in my mindgames and prediction skills so I invest a lot of time into learning that as well, as its the strongest aspect of my gameplay.

3. How often do you attend tournaments? How familiar are you with your local scene? Your regional scene? The nation?
I attend tourneys anywhere from once every 3-4 weeks, to more usually, every other month or so.
I am VERY well acquainted with my local region, being probably the only person that knows the name or tag of every smasher in my city.
regionally as well, I am very social with everyone in my region, being the one that created the thread that serves as a social hub for my entire state, excluding NYC of course.
http://www.smashboards.com/showthread.php?t=255695
like I said before, ive had some personal regional conflict, so thats why the thread isnt personally under my control anymore.
As far as the national and the world scene, I pride myself on knowing as many high level players as possible. I can even name the top 3-5 players of every character in the game, imo of course. europe and japan included. When I hang out with smashers that dont use the boards as much or melee people, they always come to me when they want to know about top players from around the country and world.

4. How is your overall tournament performance? Please link results, if available.
http://www.smashboards.com/showthread.php?t=287544
Heres the last tourney that I attended, I placed second, spliting the pot with pikapika, beating him in winners bracket, and taking him to game 4 in the first set and game 5 in the last set in grands. I defeated JamesG in winners finals with wolf, fox, and falco.
http://www.smashboards.com/showthread.php?t=286468
this is the last tourney before that.
I placed fifth, losing to Tiger (Dr. Grandpa) and Pikapika, both playing MK.
http://www.smashboards.com/showthread.php?t=276868
MLG Columbus, one of my few OoS appearances, I placed 49th, tying with players like speed, chibo, anther, biglou, malcolm, smurf, kain and vinnie.

5. Reshiram or Zekrom?
fk pokemon.
6. What aspect of the game would you like to see the BBR look into/work on?
Hmmm, I guess I would like to see more work and public research being done on the ruleset and specifically the stage list. I LOVE the new stage list, but a lot of people are just disregarding it without thought and even testing and trying things for themselves, and encouraging that kind of testing is what people should be doing.

oh, and banning Metaknight, that would be great.

7. Finally, if you haven't already, please link to posts of any contributions you have made in the past; what do you feel you would bring to the Brawl Back Room?
I have contributed a lot to the development of sonic as a character.
http://www.smashboards.com/showthread.php?t=224797 A thread whose purpose was to get all the skilled players to share small niche things they do in game that they might not have thought to bring up anywhere else.
http://www.smashboards.com/showthread.php?t=209326 A thread with a similar purpose, I documented a lot of things that I didnt think other players knew about.
http://www.smashboards.com/showthread.php?t=258911 an unfinished thread I made about which way to DI vertical killmoves. If any of you want to help me fill in the blanks that would be great.
Also, if you took a look at any thread in the sonic boards, youll usually find me giving someone advice or teaching them somethign they didnt know about the game.
http://www.smashboards.com/showthread.php?p=6501754#post6501754 at the bottom of that post is a write up I did on how to beat wolf with sonic, though its some what old at this point.
Im also a frequent poster on all of the hot button threads, MK ban, tier list, ruleset, tourney rankings, player rankings, you name it. I like discussing things with people who know what they are talking about, because that leads to the most accurate conclusion.

All in all, I believe Im incredibly knowledgeable about every single aspect of brawl, and I will be an asset to any and all future projects that the Br will work on in the future. Im also a very intelligent debater that wont hesitate to call somebody out if they are wrong and also, is not afraid to admit when he is wrong and is willing to change his mind, something that seems very hard to come by these days. And lastly,
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CM7J3ASYPBk
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vx3W8MYpIbI
I dont think Im too terrible at the game either.

Thank you very much for wading through this wall of text and considering my application.

Hello. I am iRJi. I play Lucario and Metaknight, as well as Pikachu, d3, and others. I take gaming very seriously, and I take brawl very serious as well. I will keep this short, and let the questions below answer everything else.

1. Are you a tournament host or co-host? If so, how successful are your tournaments, generally, and do you do anything different from the norm that you feel provides a better experience for the players than usual? If not, how are the tournaments in your area usually run? Is there anything unique about them?

I am a co-host for tournaments. I have helped people like Alex Strife, Doom, and Kietaro run their tournaments. I also ran one of my own tournaments, and it came out well:

http://www.smashboards.com/showthread.php?t=278609

While the name is under RizMF, I am the one who ran the tournament. The ruleset that I used for the tournament was also a custom ruleset that can be found here:

http://www.smashboards.com/showthread.php?p=10543862#post10543862

I talked about this ruleset for about a month, redefining it and testing it to be accurate enough for tournament use. The ruleset went very well, as well as the tournament. I plan to use this ruleset for more tournaments in the future.

2. What part of Brawl do you know the most about? Do you specialize in a character, or know of some or all of the cast, or do you instead look into the game's physics? Maybe you prefer researching into the proper mindset and thought processes? Give your answer here.

I know a lot about the game in multiple fields. For characters, I specialize in Lucario and Metaknight. I am also verse with the physics of Falco. As for the rest of the cast, I am also in depth with most of the casts character mechanics and frame data.

3. How often do you attend tournaments? How familiar are you with your local scene? Your regional scene? The nation?

I attend tournaments at least 3 times a month, maybe 4 times. My local scene (NJ) knows me very well, and my regional scene knows me well also. As far as the nation goes, I hope to expend my presence as a player to that extent.

4. How is your overall tournament performance? Please link results, if available.

As of late, my placings have been poor. During early 09' and most of 08', I have placed very well normally within top 12 to 16 at almost every tournament I attended that had more then a 32 man bracket. I have no links due to how old the tournaments are.

5. Reshiram or Zekrom?

Reshiram Turbo Blaze 100 120 100 150 120 90

Zekrom Tera Voltage 100 150 120 120 100 90

Honestly, It depends on who else is on your team. In pokemon, normally pokemon that carry more attack over special attack have an advantage in the metagame due to how powerful special walls are. The typing between the 2 are average for a mix of dragon. Despite that Reshiram loses his weakness to ice, the electric typing gives Zekrom the slight advantage, due to fires weakness to stealth rocks. Both are also weak to ground, and also both are affected by Toxic spikes, and spikes, which gives them less chances to switch in if needed. Off of how I build my teams, I would use Zekrom due to typing. It can make a very good choice sweeper, or a very solid revenge killer with a scarf.

6. What aspect of the game would you like to see the BBR look into/work on?

I would actually like to see them work on the extra choices of the game. I have been playing halo for about 6 years, and the one thing that makes games like smash and halo better then most games is the options that it provides. We have a stage builder, but yet we don’t use it to our advantage. We have damage modifiers, but we don’t use them either. I would love to see all of this tested more, especially the stage builder, because having the ability to add more viable stages at your finger tips can easily increase the games fun, and competitively. Saying that it would be hard to access the files would be false, because of how universal the SD card function is to every player. If we really wanted, we can build the stages, put them on smash boards for everyone to download to their SD, and transfer it to the wii in use.

7. Finally, if you haven't already, please link to posts of any contributions you have made in the past; what do you feel you would bring to the Brawl Back Room?

What I would bring to the back room is words of reason. While I am able to pick sides, I like to analyze both sides of situations to produce an output. I can do theorycraft, but I am big on facts and statistics. Despite that, theory is a big part of proper testing. I would bring dedication to the backroom, as I take competitive gaming very seriously, and I will always try to help make the game better for everyone to play.

Slight Background: I'm a Midwest Smasher from Wichita, Kansas. I'm a Diddy Kong main currently power ranked at 5th in my State. I've been pretty enveloped in the scene for almost two years now (late October will mark my two years). I thoroughly enjoy theory craft and discussion on past, present and the current meta game and how it's progressed. It's the evolving meta game and how that meta game continues to evolve that keeps me interested in discussing more in depth as a part of the BBR.

1. Are you a tournament host or co-host? If so, how successful are your tournaments, generally, and do you do anything different from the norm that you feel provides a better experience for the players than usual? If not, how are the tournaments in your area usually run? Is there anything unique about them?

I have ran tournaments before and I have assisted in running tournaments before. I'd like to think that my tournaments are successful but at the same time I don't want to critique them myself. Other TO's who have attended my events are The Real Inferno (current BBR member) and Mr. Doom (current BBR applicant). I do recall gaining a lot of praise after my events though, especially after my first one because of how surprised they were on my ability to run the tournament smoothly. The tournaments I ran are COMPLETELY different from the average tournament, not in terms of attendance and bracket but because of the pot. The series of tournaments I ran were called "Brawl For Hope" and I completely eliminated the pot. Instead, I donated the pot to charities (the first pot to orphans in China and the 2nd to one of my best friend's family (three out of five members were killed in a car wreck so I ran another tournament in their name)). So instead, I payed for trophies out of my pocket for the first event and for the 2nd event I supplied food for the competitors. This made it to where the tournament environment was more of a party than a serious fight. The tournaments in my region have been using the MLG stage list recently and if not, we usually use Midwest rules for stages.

2. What part of Brawl do you know the most about? Do you specialize in a character, or know of some or all of the cast, or do you instead look into the game's physics? Maybe you prefer researching into the proper mindset and thought processes? Give your answer here.

The aspect that I know most about is the importance of the scene itself. sometimes I feel like the people around us are taken for granted and we overlook the FACT that without them, this scene would be meaningless. The reason that we keep attending tournaments isn't to lose money every weekend, it's to travel and hang out with these friends that we've made. Smash has given me friends for life, not only locally but State to State and for others, coast to coast.

I specialize in Diddy Kong but I also know the entire cast. Being a Diddy Kong main, I know all of his options and play-styles on top of his frame data and specific character ratio ranges (I don't believe that there are set character match ups like 50-50 but instead anywhere from 45-55 to 55-45 for example). My play-style is dependent on keeping a slight lead; I want to deal damage without taking it even if the amount I deal is only a banana hit. With that in mind, I HAVE to know my opponent's frame data. So along with Diddy's frame date I know almost all of the rest of the cast's too.

I also think that thought process is crucial, pivotal and essential. You not only have be in the right mindset to win your matches BUT you have to be able to dissect your opponent to make reads. If you can't adjust mid-game then they will always be one step ahead.

3. How often do you attend tournaments? How familiar are you with your local scene? Your regional scene? The nation?

I've been attending tournaments about twice a month since Summer started. The tournaments I go to are local and Regional (Midwest-West). I have not traveled on a National scale. I know my regional scene really well actually, from the characters people play to the types of people they are. I love interacting and getting to know the people at tournaments, again, it's what built and will continue to build our scene.

4. How is your overall tournament performance? Please link results, if available.

I've been placing top ten pretty consistently lately. I took 9th and 7th at two of the most recent events I've attended.

5. Reshiram or Zekrom?

Reshiram. Zekrom would completely destroy him but Reshiram is just ballin'. I mean, winning is awesome but...he's almost...fluffy. :D

6. What aspect of the game would you like to see the BBR look into/work on?

I want the game itself to be more static. We all know that there are always complaints when East Coast players come to Texas or the Midwest because of how crazy the stage lists and rules are. I'd like to try to pinpoint guidelines to fix these contradicting mindsets.

I also want there to be more solidity in the Tier List. The top of the list is great but I feel like there was inadequate placing for almost all of the middle and lower tiers. I feel like there should be a list for theory based discussion (like the current list) but also a separate list based purely off of character to character match-ups (a mathematical list).

7. Finally, if you haven't already, please link to posts of any contributions you have made in the past; what do you feel you would bring to the Brawl Back Room?

I write critiques for upcoming players. I helped write PhatyChong's Stage CPs for every Diddy MU. I'm also a part of the Diddy Back Room.

I feel like I would bring intelligent and focused conversation to the Back Room. I was a debate student so I feel as though I'm capable of seeing multiple viewpoints AND then assess which viewpoint I feel is better for the ENTIRE community.

Hi, I'm theunabletable. I'm an improving SoCal MK main. I don't get to go to tournaments often, however; because I live rather far from where most tournaments are held here in SoCal. I'm 15, but I have a lot of time on my hands, since I'll be done with high school soon (assuming I pass the CHSPE), and I love this game (I mean, ****, I have dreams involving the playing of this game like every other night atleast, lol. No joke). I want to do everything I can to evolve the metagame and to help fellow players out. I enjoy debating, as well. So getting into the BBR would be like a win-win situation :p

Along with the fact that I think being in the BBR could help me learn more about this game, and help me improve as a player, which, in turn, would allow me to help other people improve, as well.

1. Are you a tournament host or co-host? If so, how successful are your tournaments, generally, and do you do anything different from the norm that you feel provides a better experience for the players than usual? If not, how are the tournaments in your area usually run? Is there anything unique about them?

There isn't much that's unique about the tourneys here :/ They're pretty standard, really. Champ's tourneys are really, really well run, I guess. That's different from all the others here lol.

2. What part of Brawl do you know the most about? Do you specialize in a character, or know of some or all of the cast, or do you instead look into the game's physics? Maybe you prefer researching into the proper mindset and thought processes? Give your answer here.

I mostly specialize in MK, but the aspect that I specialize most in would probably be unique mixups. I know a lot of really unique mixups and such that most people have never seen before. Lots of different recovery tactics, spacing tricks, kill setups, true combos about my character that no one knows about but me (and the people I tell about these combos).

When I'm on top of my game, I'm actually pretty technical for Brawl with all of the little tricks I incorporate. Usually when I practice, I stay up all night, and play at 6 AM, and just screw around in training mode, or against CPUs. Being up all night makes me REALLY creative. So I guess you could say that my specialization is gimmicky **** that I'm not good enough (yet, anyways. I've been improving a lot lately) to incorporate into my game very well.

A lot of the stuff I've found I don't want to reveal until I've thoroughly tested how well it works, what percents it works at, go into frame advance and all that. But that's more smash lab style, huh?

3. How often do you attend tournaments? How familiar are you with your local scene? Your regional scene? The nation?

I don't get to attend tournaments that often :/

Usually around once a month-6 weeks or so. There are way less tournaments here in SoCal lately, so it's getting even harder to go to tournaments. I'm pretty familiar with SoCal's players, who they main, etc. And Oregon's and Washington's smashers, too, I know the Vegas scene... kinda well. Although I don't know the Arizona scene very well at all (all I know is that DarkLink wins stuff there lol).

Nation-wise I know an alright amount. Probably not a LOT, but I know mostly every character's top players (idk there might be some low tiers whose best mains I don't know that well), and I know the top players of most regions (atleast I know the top players of, like,Texas, Florida, NJ, etc. Pretty much the really good states I know of the top players there. And I'm fairly knowledgeable of the top players in the smaller states and regions, too).

4. How is your overall tournament performance? Please link results, if available.

Pretty mediocre currently. Although I'm improving, and have been getting better and better. I don't have any links to anything recent :/

I'm really inconsistent in my play, I have a major autopilot/focus problem that I need to work on. And I get nervous and choke in my matches sometimes, too. I'm getting better, and more experienced, though. But as of now, I'm not really a good player (or atleast consistently a good player. My playing varies drastically from game-to-game. Some games I'm playing really well, and I can go even with good players, and then the next when I play against someone even worse (or the same person), I have trouble focusing, I go on autopilot, and play like ****. Or vice versa (playing ****ty, then all of a sudden playing pretty well)).

5. Reshiram or Zekrom?

I don't play Pokemon competitively, so I'd say Zekrom, just because I think his tail looks cooler. But, honestly, I don't like the look of either much...

6. What aspect of the game would you like to see the BBR look into/work on?

I think more articles like what Pierce was doing with that one thread of his about improving at Brawl would be a great thing for the BBR to do more of. The character discussions look like they could've been better. Trying to get the communities respect more would benifit EVERYONE, too. If everyone respected the BBR, or the BBR did more to get people to all follow the same ruleset (because, regardless of if the current BBR stagelist/ruleset makes sense or not, no one follows it, and lots of places have wildly different versions of it). That'd be great for the community. There are a lot of things that the BBR could begin to do just for the benifit of the community.

Although for me, if I were to get in, I'd love to help with those articles about the deeper aspects of the game. I'd like to help the lower level players get better, and learn more. And the deep stuff just fascinates me.

7. Finally, if you haven't already, please link to posts of any contributions you have made in the past; what do you feel you would bring to the Brawl Back Room?

Nothing TOO major. Some debating posts in the tier list thread, posts on the MK boards about matchups. I run the interview thread (but no pros have responded to my PMs, so I haven't been able to get any new interviews lol), and I ran the MK stage discussion thread, but no one ever helped contribute to it, so I stopped with that, since it wasn't accomplishing anything at all, really. I'll start it up again soon to see if people will try and contribute this time.

I feel like I could help discuss certain characters, since I am pretty knowledgeable about most of the characters in the game (just much, much, more so about my own character, which is understandable, I guess). I feel like I could bring a pretty good, informed, opinion about rulesets and such, and I'm not HORRIBLE at debating. I'd be able to help bring to light unused tactics, and their effect on the metagame, as well. And I'll be active, too. I'm also going to start redoing the statistics thread after this Saturday, and try to add some other statistics other than just characters, although it's a pretty large project.

I don't expect to get in at all lol, but it's worth a try :p

Intro of Self:
I'm a second year undergraduate at UCSB, cofounder or UCSB Smash Club which hosts weekly meets for 20-40 people and quarterly tournaments for the community (this year opening up to the public smash community, not UCSB only anymore). I major in Biochemistry, and am taking sufficient classes for a double major in Psychology in the pursuit of studying the intricate chemical systems involved in neuroscience for a Ph.D. in the future.
I've played Melee since 2003 and Brawl since release (not japanese version though sadly).
I'm okay at Melee, and though I touch the game maybe once every couple months I am immediately able to use Sheik to keep up with players like TonyGuacomole or Metalreflectslime in my community, due to careful analysis of my actions during play. In Brawl I main Marth with a burning passion, and have worked with Junk to innovate a unique style I hope to flourish in the tournament scene soon.

My main reason for wanting to be in the Back Room is to help innovate Marth's top level play so that the character may compete beyond the ranks of players like Havok and Mikehaze.
I also enjoy any lively discussion involving matchups, as they are my focus in the game, along with mindset.

1. Are you a tournament host or co-host?

I am the publicity and treasurer, though I end up in the position also of T.O. for UCSB Smash Club. An organization in University of California, Santa Barbara that holds tournaments quarterly for the public starting this year. Last year we held a tournament for UCSB only, and I ran it with two other friends. It went fluidly, with 32 Doubles Brawl teams and 32 Singles Melee people, and finished in under four hours. It included Melee singles and Brawl Doubles. This coming year, all tournaments will most likely be MK banned tournaments held on campus but open and advertised to all on AiB and SWF. Expected attendance is around 80, and expected hours are 1PM to 8PM or so, though advertising will maintain a stance that hours start from 11AM and that is when we will have setups ready.

Our meetings this year will consist of not only randoms, but names such as Junk and Vicegrip, every Saturday night, with expected attendance of about 40 for four hours of fun/metagame discussing.

The area about UCSB is a dead zone. Oxnard is the only place nearby that held tournaments all summer, and it is an hour drive. Thankfully, we're bringing all those underground smashers to the surface at UCSB and also the community.

2. What part of Brawl do you know the most about? Do you specialize in a character, or know of some or all of the cast, or do you instead look into the game's physics? Maybe you prefer researching into the proper mindset and thought processes? Give your answer here.

Throughout the development of Brawl, I have had passions for understanding and developing techniques for Mario, then Falco, then Snake, and then Marth, although I have also taken occasional glances at the uses of characters such as Jigglypuff and Ike. The game's physics is a somewhat background concern, since trends such as platform canceling, foxtrot pivots, and grab releases inspired me to look into optimizing what my characters can do from grabs, and how my characters can position based on circumstance.

JunK got me into looking at these things more in-depth as of late, along with the uses of buffering.
However, my main concern with Brawl has always been mindset. I watch videos of top players and pause every five seconds or so to evaluate circumstances and thoughts of either player. Every Saturday morning in the past summer, though I was in summer school taking 20 units, was spent pouring hours into developing decision-making processes.

This morning, I typed out the following on notepads after the viewing of 4 youtube videos and reading through three match-up discussions:

QUESTIONS TO ASK DURING MATCH
1) What is the best zoning/% combos I have
2) What does he want
- Zones
- % Combos
3BAD) What did he do that worked
3GOOD) What do I do to keep him unsafe till ****%

Some of the rest I will include just to provide sufficient example (how are you to assume I'm not stupid if I don't):
MK - Watch Him
A) His punish to your shield
-grab -> spotdodge
-OoS nair -> shield then punish
-upB -> shield and uptilt to grab
B) His recovery method
-SideB -> downB
-UpB onstage backwards -> shieldgrab
-Jumps -> prepare to keep him on ledge
-DownB -> perfectly timed edgehog
-Tornado onstage -> UpB/DownB/DB
alternatable with tiltupshield
to punish
C) Spacing is inside his spacing, at your tipper
or sideB

1) Keep MK offstage
2) Trick into Grabs/ Fight with Your Shield:
Low %: Fthrow to Nair to Nair-> ?
High %: Release->dashattack/dair
3D) Every Jump is a risk, emptyhop>fair>nair
4) Count his jumps
5) Always keep fighting, 3 grabs may win
6P) Stay low relative to MK
7) Fight using your grounded shield
8) Bait poor spacing
9) Elongate his jumps and dashes in
10) Focus on % exchange per situation
-maximize punishes (don't just DB)

PIKACHU -
1) Jump over/Powershield thunderbolts
-retreating fair shieldachu
-nair aerialachu
2) Use stage Presence and patience
- he can't fight using the edges forever
* one screwup is a deadachu or high%achu
- emptyhop mind****, walkup and sideb/grab
3) Pikachu's FSMASH is his longest range attack
ftilt is next longest
4) Fully shield or STRONG DI Pikachu's dsmash
5) Don't fall for upsmash/fsmash for the kill
6) Watch where they go with Up-B
- behind you close
- front of you close
- behind you far
- ledge
- platform
- through you (up-B is only 2%, do a jab)
7) Jab/SideB/Dtilt can put pressure and Pikachu out of range
- keep pikachu at optimal range
8) Sword beats thunderbolt
9) Counter ***** Fsmash/DownB
-the closer the more % retaliated
10) Stay spaced at Fair tipper range

TOON LINK:
1) His short hop-> fair comes out BEFORE YOURS
- But he loses ground when he whiffs it
2) Stay spaced fair tipper range
3) If under him Watch out for:
- Dair
- Bombs
- Zair landing
4) If over him watch out for
-upair
-upsmash
-nair
5) Patience and ZONING OFF THE STAGE WITHOUT PASS

FOX:
1) Zone in fair and side-B/grab range
2) Being above Fox is NOT THAT BAD, space fair&shield
-upair
-fair
-UPSMASH - watch out for DASHDANCE UPSMASH
3) Do not let Fox on-stage, don't take the ledge
4) Grab out of end of Side-B for a grab break gimp
5) Fair recovery to death
6) Fthrowx2 to Spike is important at 0%
7) Ftilt is deceptively long
8) Up-B stage spike

OVERALL MATCHUP FOCI

1) Recover safely, use anything predictable to get ahead of the opponent
- UpB/Retaliate early on close attacks
- Airdodge and DI in ONLY WHEN AHEAD OF THE OPPONENT
- Land safely with retreating fair
on grounded opponents trying to punish
* Get ahead of the opponent inwards, and use it
or * Recover safely and fight from the ledge

2) Get ahead of the opponent in the neutral situation
cut down their options
-show them that you'll punish them
if they do so and so, then let them make
the first move)
zone them offstage
-walk up when it's safe to, let them
make first moves/"tells"
note when they're trying to get behind you
-**** them for it
3) Base actions on followup actions
Low % = FOLLOWUP CITY

Everything quoted above was written this morning. I'm an analysis junkie. It's why I basically triple major in school as well.

The hour following all that I typed above, I also wrote out on a notepad a critique of a sticky on AiB in the Marth section, which then turned into the following post:
http://www.smashboards.com/showthread.php?p=11371575#post11371575

I intend to flesh that post out to a much larger entirety over the next month of Saturdays or so.

3. How often do you attend tournaments? How familiar are you with your local scene? Your regional scene? The nation?

I have always lived in dead areas where I have brought a smash scene in myself (Lodi = Farmsville, Santa Barbara = Beach, not Smash): making an organization at my school (high school, college). I attended three large tournaments when I was a nobody, and that got me started. This summer I spent carpooling with Vicegrip and JunK, learning to main Snake at about 6 Biweekly Oxnard Tournaments, then switched mains to Marth when during analyses I discovered how little my favored fighting style and Snake's optimum style had in common.
I myself probably know every Smash player in my area that isn't a shut-in. Advertisements and invitations for my smash club have brought in many randoms and I have had followup smash-fests with the best of them. I also got to know mostly everyone that attended Oxnard's Biweeklies this past summer.

My plan this coming school year is to spend some weeks getting ahead of school and subsequent weekends traveling and playing at nationals/regionals. I'm just getting started in terms getting around really.

How is your overall tournament performance? Please link results, if available.

With Snake over the summer (I picked him up at the beginning of summer and used him through it, assuming he was the second best character), I placed 9 and 13 consistently among 25-40 people. The placements above me included Rich Brown, DEHF, and JunK consistently, with others like Mikehaze, Havok, and TearBear stepping in.
I realized by the end of summer Snake was definitely not my style, and have worked on Marth for about 2 months now. I have yet to play a tournament with Marth, but am confident in top 5 consistency given how well I do in friendlies with JunK and Vice as well as several currently decent local players. In doubles I have taken matches (2 of 5 each) off of Junk/Vice and LarryDEHF/RichBrown, two teams that I would consider of equal caliber, while teaming with a teammate I had hardly practiced teams with. I'm also exceptional at low tiers with my Mario, but have not had the opportunity to show that off much either.

5. Reshiram or Zekrom?

Upon quick google, and knowledge only up to Sapphire of the metagame of pokemon (shoddy battle, netbattle)...I would assume Zekrom is better off because of the type combination it has (electric beats water and ice which used to be what would counter dragons). Then again, I haven't the slightest notion of whether water is as overused a type as it was at one point against dragons, and for all I know Steel beats Dragon now. Also, whether they depend on physical or special attacks would make a critical difference. Assuming dragons are physical, I would go with Zekrom. Hmm..I just might want to play Black&White after all.

6. What aspect of the game would you like to see the BBR look into/work on?

The BBR votes still left a Metaknight in competitive Brawl, which is uninteresting for the meta-game, but understandably blamable on Euro-peeps. Also, recent stage sets have made little sense. But I think this only from what I have heard. I'm tired of hearing side-reports about the BBR's doings, and would rather experience it before I judge what it should work on. For all I know I haven't scratched the surface of the on-goings of the BBR, save for the posts that go public through Pierce7D all the time (which I much appreciate).
Posts like "A Norfair Guide for Marth" in the public character chats have inspired me to want to develop strategies that were not only matchup dependent but matchup+stage dependent, under the assumption that players will be willing to stick with a few choice stages for playing certain characters. This I would be willing to start a section in and contribute for a couple weeks per stage for.

7. Finally, if you haven't already, please link to posts of any contributions you have made in the past; what do you feel you would bring to the Brawl Back Room?

Always feeling uninitiated/unregarded by the public (which is too lazy to read walls of thoughtful text), I hardly make posts thus far. In the BBR there would be much better reason to engage in discussion, given the response rate and caliber of discussion in comparison with the non-BBR.

Here are my two most recent attempts at lively discussion. Both have plenty of room to grow, and actually one is being pushed currently by public input.

http://www.smashboards.com/showthread.php?t=282359&page=2 *Note how I posted last and since then people just gave up

http://www.smashboards.com/showthread.php?t=288606 *Yay success so far, Day 1, Input from Mr. R and Susa!!!

Honestly, most of my time is spent working on school. But when I get my mind set on Brawl once a week or so, I usually have a rapid series of input and development. In this, I usually feel uninterested in lack of response from anyone around at a high enough level of play((currently this lack being present in the Marth boards). JunK is often nearby for lively discussion, but even the way he thinks can't often work with my developing ideas.

Hi, I'm DR3W/Drew. I'm a junior in high school, and I reside in Florida. I'm an honest, kind, mature individual who would make time for this responsibility. Like a majority of the entrants, I've played Smash since I was a kid. I upgraded to Melee and Brawl both the day they came out. I've had such a strong passion for the series and it would be such an honor to be included in a private, mature forum where discussion flourishes daily.

1. Are you a tournament host or co-host? If so, how successful are your tournaments, generally, and do you do anything different from the norm that you feel provides a better experience for the players than usual? If not, how are the tournaments in your area usually run? Is there anything unique about them?
No, I am not. However, I would like to be. I don't have the necessary time, location, resources, or community available to do so. I have good time management skills and knowledgable about Tio and running events, so it would probably be quite successful, actually.

2. What part of Brawl do you know the most about? Do you specialize in a character, or know of some or all of the cast, or do you instead look into the game's physics? Maybe you prefer researching into the proper mindset and thought processes? Give your answer here.
I specialize in my charater, Falco. That doesn't mean I'm ignorant of the rest of the cast. I've been playing Brawl since the day it came out, so I've gained quite a bit of technical, matchup, and move details in my experience. In addition to that, I think that mindsets have just as much to do with playing as knowledge? What's experience without drive, right?

3. How often do you attend tournaments? How familiar are you with your local scene? Your regional scene? The nation?
I attend them whenever I can. I can't drive yet, I'm busy with school, have full-time working parents and an autistic brother - so finding time to 'escape' to tournaments is slim. However, I've been to two locals [Gigabits, June 2009 and CEO, June 2010] and one national [Winterfest, December 2009]. I'm very familiar with my scene and lucky to have such a friendly and variated one...

4. How is your overall tournament performance? Please link results, if available.
Too bad I went to these tournaments for fun. I met people, played money matches, and just hung out and got familiar with the scene. When I can drive (a month or so) I will be able to attend tournaments and supply results...not like that will matter, lol.

5. Reshiram or Zekrom?
Zekrom, the one that looks cooler and appeared as significantly awesome in the anime.

6. What aspect of the game would you like to see the BBR look into/work on?
Hmm, I'd really like to see progress on stage lists. There's aways a bit of tweaking to be done, so I'd like to see insightful views of legitimately skilled players. I'd also like to seek further discussion on the Meta Knight ban, and tier list possibilities. To be honest, I just want the community to grow by any means possible.

7. Finally, if you haven't already, please link to posts of any contributions you have made in the past; what do you feel you would bring to the Brawl Back Room?
Like I said, I specialize primarily in Falco. I only recently started posting on here, but I am so familiar with the ins and outs of SWF. I love giving people advice and helping anyone improve. I also think I would bring vigor and new ideas to the BBR! I'm creative and love discussion on how to improve anything about the metagame.

Might as well give it a shot.

1. No
2. I know a lot of varied smash trivia, such as glitches, physics, character specific anomalies and the like. I know how about 75% of the cast operates and I have a vast multitude of stage specific tricks.
3. I pretty much jump any tourney that's in my state, or closeby in adjacent states. As far as national involvement, I've only been to Apex.
4. My tourney performance is average. I can't really remember where all my tourney placings are, but it's been about half a year since I placed anywhere worse than 9th, and I'm currently 10th on the NYC PRs.
5. Reshiram. Kinda reminds me of Lugia, ya'digg?
6. Obviously, the whole MK debate. Chiefly, I'm interested to see the BBR's current opinions on the matter, and what their schedule holds in store for it. I also want to know how the BBR has been reacting to the latest MK discussion movement, and whether or not they have any plans for the future.

Among those, I wouldn't mind the BBR look into the player community's suggestions of various ruleset changes, such as 1 stock food or 1.1 damage ratio, to see if it really fosters balance. A big operation with some experimentation wouldn't hurt if everyone chipped in some effort. And if it didn't work, we at least have some precedent to use when someone suggests a rule like that again.
7. I don't really have much. If you look through them. the majority of my posts can be found amongst debate-type threads, but only to pipe in the truth whenever someone tries to twist it.

Anyway, I guess these would qualify as my shining moments...

Obviously everything in most of these posts is common knowledge... but I make it a point to re-iterate them whenever I believe people are losing sight of the facts.

I'm not a very good debater, because I don't know how to fool people into thinking I'm right, but I know what's what around the scene, and I just want to make sure all of the facts come out.

Before starting, my actual tag is Vex Kasrani, there's alot of Kasrani's around now and can make it confusing.

1. Are you a tournament host or co-host? If so, how successful are your tournaments, generally, and do you do anything different from the norm that you feel provides a better experience for the players than usual? If not, how are the tournaments in your area usually run? Is there anything unique about them?
I may be hosting a few small tournaments in the near future, but for the most part no, I'm not a tournament host. I currently live in the tristate area (PA/NJ/NY) so there are many different tournaments in my area. Chibo's tournaments lack a ledge grab rule, Keitaro's tournament use weird stages, and everything else pretty much just uses a small stage list with ledge grab rules.

2. What part of Brawl do you know the most about? Do you specialize in a character, or know of some or all of the cast, or do you instead look into the game's physics? Maybe you prefer researching into the proper mindset and thought processes? Give your answer here.
I specialize in many characters(is that possible?) such as Bowser, Pit, GnW, IC's and DDD. I am known for all of these characters and generally do well with them, beating many top players with each of these characters. I feel I have a great understanding of Brawl in general.

3. How often do you attend tournaments? How familiar are you with your local scene? Your regional scene? The nation?
I attend tournaments atleast once a month, if not multiple times a month. I, for the most part, know my regional smash scene really well. I somewhat know the national smash scene also.

4. How is your overall tournament performance? Please link results, if available.
I'll link my last 5 tournaments I attended;

Reshiram

6. What aspect of the game would you like to see the BBR look into/work on?
Solidifying a ruleset that most, if not all regions can agree on, this includes stage list. This may, however, be impossible, but it may also be possible. Also, tier list discussion.

7. Finally, if you haven't already, please link to posts of any contributions you have made in the past; what do you feel you would bring to the Brawl Back Room?
Bowser grab release thread, it will be getting a major update soon, including a chart for each character that can be grab released a certain way, and a written version on the forum.
http://www.smashboards.com/showthread.php?t=193617

I'm also currently researching the Ice Climber's fusion glitch, information will be released once we understand it better.
I can bring to the BBR, my vast knowledge of my mains, which are underplayed and misunderstood characters for the most part.

Thank you for taking the time to read this application.

I am the organizer of a tournament series at a local LAN center that I work at. AllisBrawl link. The most recent tournament took place September 4th. The tournaments have been hit or miss, one tournament actually only capping at 12 entrants, but usually they have managed to consistently attract the active players in Alabama, especially the power ranked players. With the recent BBR ruleset update, I was eager to try out the new stagelist, which was met with firm resistance from a lot of TOs. Honestly, I didn't see any backlash about the stages at the tournament, and I feel it made the tournament more interesting. In general, Alabama tournaments have always had pretty liberal stagelists.

2. What part of Brawl do you know the most about? Do you specialize in a character, or know of some or all of the cast, or do you instead look into the game's physics? Maybe you prefer researching into the proper mindset and thought processes? Give your answer here.

I've been a Kirby main since I first had my hands on the game. I've dabbled in just about every other character in the game looking for potential secondaries, so I feel like I have solid knowledge of just about the entire game's cast.

3. How often do you attend tournaments? How familiar are you with your local scene? Your regional scene? The nation?

I attend tournaments at about every chance I get. Over the summer, I kind of stopped playing as much and really fell behind on everything. I'm very familiar with my local scene. As far as the rest of my region, I'm really only knowledgeable about Georgia's scene, though I've attended tournaments in Georgia, Tennessee, Florida, and Louisiana, so I try to stay familiar with the region. As for nation familiarity I've attended CoT4, GENESIS, and MLG Raleigh and try to keep up with the big names.

4. How is your overall tournament performance? Please link results, if available.

I'm currently power-ranked 5th in Alabama as recent as Summer 2010, previously I've been ranked as high as 3rd. I'm ranked 486 in the Official SWF Brawl Rankings with only 6 tournaments recorded under my name.

10/09/10 - 5th at 2 AUSOM
10/02/10 - 17th at SIEGE
09/04/10 - 4th at Vulcan GameBox Smash Tournament 6
08/28/10 - 97th at MLG Raleigh :(
08/21/10 - 9th at WABA Monthly
07/31/10 - 5th at NOMNOMNOM

5. Reshiram or Zekrom?

Reshiram obviously. Pokémon is very near and dear to my heart.

6. What aspect of the game would you like to see the BBR look into/work on?

Making this game more interesting competitively. It's why I think stages like Port Town and Norfair have a really good place in a competitive ruleset.

7. Finally, if you haven't already, please link to posts of any contributions you have made in the past; what do you feel you would bring to the Brawl Back Room?

Most of my research I've done on the game has been for personal use and hasn't been publicly posted. Most of this has been on Kirby.

I'm a major board lurker and usually only post in Regional Zones, but I'm very knowledgeable about the game, and I have opinions!

Hello BBR, my username is Twinkie, I'm 19 years old, and I'm a Toon Link main from Puerto Rico. I've mained him since I unlocked him back in 2008, and I'm the current moderator of his character board here on SWF. I'm currently going for a bachelor's degree in Digital Animation.

1. Are you a tournament host or co-host? If so, how successful are your tournaments, generally, and do you do anything different from the norm that you feel provides a better experience for the players than usual? If not, how are the tournaments in your area usually run? Is there anything unique about them?
As of today, no. I do plan on becoming a tournament director by early 2011, once my family finishes moving to a different house and settling in.

Tournaments here appear sporadically. Sometimes there are numerous tournaments to go to in the area (like right now), and sometimes there are literally none (like in spring/summer of 2010), which force players to just host a bunch of smashfests. The tournaments in my area are run by traditional fighting game players (SF, Tekken players). They include other games like Brawl, Melee, Halo, and one surprise game. They are run really well, and as of recently, were able to finish Smash on time, and host streams.

2. What part of Brawl do you know the most about? Do you specialize in a character, or know of some or all of the cast, or do you instead look into the game's physics? Maybe you prefer researching into the proper mindset and thought processes? Give your answer here.
The thing I know most about is my character, Toon Link. I know that character like the back of my hand. I know about his moveset and strategies, what's good and what's not, the players, the metagame, and other random quirks he has.

Another one of my areas of expertise is stages/rulesets. I'm considered as "the stages guy" in my region, due to how much I stress that certain stages should be legal. I know a lot about each of the legal BBR stages, seeing as I've been studying them for a couple of months now. I'm currently in the process of making a guide that will demonstrate how to play all of the legal stages in general, and as Toon Link. I'll talk a little bit about this later.

As for rulesets, I'm mostly a lurker of all the proposed rule discussions in the Tactical Boards (mainly because of the spam/trolls), but I do know a lot about making rules, and I can argue well for/against different rules, as well as propose some of my own.

3. How often do you attend tournaments? How familiar are you with your local scene? Your regional scene? The nation?
I've attended every single tournament hosted in Puerto Rico since June 2009, save one tournament. I'm really active in my region, and I'm known by everybody here, and I've taken the initiative to do many things for my region (record and upload matches, make power rankings, and in the future, host tournaments). I haven't attended any tournaments outside of Puerto Rico due to monetary issues, but I do plan on going to at least one national in 2011 (Genesis 2 baby!).

4. How is your overall tournament performance? Please link results, if available.
Here are the last few tournies I attended:
9 of 22 @ Deathly Tournament 2 - 3/14/10 (No Link)
13 of 42 @ Drunken Coast Tourney 2 - 7/31/10 (Link)
13 of 26 @ Counter Assault - 9/19/10 (Link)
-Reserving a spot for a tournament on the 24th of this month-

Also, I am currently ranked 14th in our island's PRs, out of 46 players.

5. Reshiram or Zekrom?
IMO, Zekrom because he looks like he'll make your Pokémon do more than just faint. o_O

6. What aspect of the game would you like to see the BBR look into/work on?
I want more Toon Link representation in that backroom! If I'm not mistaken, there are no Toon Link mains in the BBR anymore, and after looking at the TL BBR discussion, I saw that Kewkky was pretty much the best TL rep there, and I'm partially responsible for his TL knowledge. :/

On a serious note, I'd like to see the BBR discuss some of the different settings that the game offers (such as custom stages, damage ratio, etc.) and see how we can implement them into the latest ruleset.

7. Finally, if you haven't already, please link to posts of any contributions you have made in the past; what do you feel you would bring to the Brawl Back Room?
Well for one, I'm the moderator of the TL boards. The question is kind of vague, so I'm hoping that that was considered as a contribution.

Also, here's an excerpt from a guide that I'm the co-author of. It's about how to use TL on certain stages. A lot of the information I have is in my computer, but I have some stages that are already formatted in a private group, so I'm just gonna throw one in a collapse tag.

Distant Planet
<img src="http://images1.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb20080115130637/ssb/images/5/59/Pikmin1.jpg" width="20%" height="20%">

Basic Information
The arena is composed of one giant leaf, three leafs hanging on top of it, one dirt slope to the left that has a walk-off, and a living hazard, called a Bulborb, that occasionally appears on the right side of the stage. The stage blastzone-wise is pretty large, and spawns numerous hazards and items to influence the game. The stage is currently in the 3rd counterpick group in the BBR Ruleset 3.1.

Breaking Down the Stage

The Main Platform:

The main platform consists of one large group of leaves/stems being held in place by two sticks. The platform itself is semi permeable, which means that you can pass through it from one side, but not the other. There is a ledge on the right side of the main platform, but there is no platform on the left side.

An interesting attribute with this platform is that when you stand on it, the platform will start to sink. This sinking will make fighting on the platform feel a bit bouncy, and will mess with the trajectory of your projectiles and attacks, but the dip is minor, and should only make minor effects to the overall gameplay. Things like arrow cancels will look strange, seeing as your arrows will go straight, yet you will sink downward, but it barely affects TL's game. Things like SHDA and SH Double Bairs will still work, even on the middle of the platform.

Also, a Dsmash at the right side of the main platform at 0% will OHKO. (currently unverified, needs testing)

The Three Leaves

Above the main platform, there are three leaves that TL will be able to stand on. The leaves are fairly small and close together, which means that you will be jumping from leaf to leaf often. The leaves are fully permeable, meaning that you can pass through both sides of them.

The leaves can be at three different heights:

1st Level: Highest when no one is standing on them
2nd Level: Medium when someone immediately lands on the platform. The leaf will sink slightly.
3rd Level: Low When a character lands and stays on the leaf. The leaf will slowly sink from the 2nd Level once your character settles.

The leaves sink pretty far down which can lead to some cool things. For one, our Up attacks can reach through the platforms, which is something that our height doesn't let us do in other stages. Also, we can grab people from the main platform while we're on a leaf using the grab hitbox on our body (this works when our positions are switched as well). If you get a grab while on the leaf, chances are that due to it's size, we will be able to grab them over the edge, meaning free air releases.

The sinking of the leaves also hurts our game a bit. For one, we won't be able to SHDA on the leaves, due to how far and fast the stage dips. Short hopping on the same leaf numerous times is awkward, and it's recommended that you either just move from different platforms, fullhop, simply stand on it, or get off so the leaves won't mess with your game.

These leaves also glorify platform canceling, if you're below a leaf, jump while holding down, then Bair, and you'll snap on to the leaf. What's cool about this is that you'll immediately jump from high to medium height on the leaves using this techinque.

The Slope
The slope on the left side of the stage has a ledge going under the main platform on the right side, and a permanent walk-off edge on the left.

The slope is steep enough to allow you to slam yourself into it when getting hit from a lower part of the stage, thus, giving you the free tech that you can use to survive. The slope is also steep enough to lift some character's feet from the ground when you grab them facing right, giving you that free air release (Wario). Another cool thing that Toons should exploit is the slide we get from our Dair when we Dair into the ground. It gives us a significant horizontal push, and could be used as a gimmick to escape tricky situations.

There is something we have to watch out for, and that is the permanent walk-off. It IS possible to chaingrab TL with DDD up the slope, BUT there are two things that can possibly help us.

1) DDD's grab has barely any vertical reach. If DDD does a standing grab, chances are that he won't be grabbing you unless you're touching him. All the range is horizontal, not vertical. Dashing grabs are what's gonna get you.

2) DDD's chaingrab on TL requires special timing, thus, it's easier for DDD to mess it up. Also, you could take advantage of the fact that not many DDD players may know about this, and they'll just assume that you can't be chaingrabbed.

In general, you might want to avoid the slope against characters who can chain grab. I heard Pikachu's chaingrab with this slope is actually better, so watch out. Stand on the platforms or something.

Under the Platform

The right side of the slope goes slightly under the main platform, and since the main platform is only semi-permeable and not fully permeable, this little area is considered as an advantaged area.

Exploiting this position

The area is small, so there's not really much you can do to exploit this area of the map. The most obvious thing that you could do here is try to shark, but sharking is fairly difficult considering how little vertical space you have vs. the long horizontal space you must cover. Attacks you can shark with include Fair, Bair, Uair, Boomerang, and Bombs. Just short hop to any place and you get two tries at an attack. From there, you can either retreat back to the position, or grab the ledge at the right side of the level. Sharking in this level is really bad because the opponent could just stand on any of the leaves and avoid all of your attacks (maybe except for Bombs and Boomerangs). Also, if you jump off the slope and try to shark more to the right, this gives the opponent an opportunity to just run left and steal your power position under the main platform.

Another thing you can do in this area is wait. Let the timer run down, and hide in that area that your opponent has a hard time trying to attack. Bait what he does. You can just jump through the platform and intercept him from above if he tries to approach you from above the platform. If he's too high, get your bombs ready. If he's to your left, get your boomerangs/bombs or your Bairs ready. If all else fails, there's a ledge right next to you.

The wall under the ledge can be walljumped, but only on the upper portion of it. Don't try to wall jump on the bottom half of the wall! You'll fail miserably, and fall to your death. On the bright side, if you DO wall jump the wall, you have 3 guaranteed places to land on: the slope ledge, the main platform, or the main platform's edge.

One last thing about this position. This position glorifies the Dsmash gimp. It makes our glitchy Dsmash so hardcore, it might make people ragequit. Assuming the Bulborb is present, and with his mouth open, landing a Dsmash (facing left) anywhere on the slope UNDER the platform will result in a OHKO. The Dsmash will send your opponent past the main stage and into the Bulborb's mouth, thus, killing him instantly. The Dsmash gimp that everyone though was stupid is now even stupider.

Sadly, without the bulborb, the enemy can still recover by grabbing the ledge on the main platform.

Getting Your Opponent to Stop Exploiting the Position

Being completely honest, I think this position is exaggerated. It's really easy to get your opponent out from under the main platform, especially for Toon Link. If you're at the right side of the stage, you won't do much work getting the opponent off from there. You can launch a projectile or two from the right side, but all he would have to do is shield, dodge, grab the ledge, or move left and he's safe.

The best way to get your opponent off is by going from the left side. If you're on the right, jump on the leaves and travel to the left side as high up as you can get. Don't let him shark you.

Once you're on the slope, your opponent is in hot water. All you have to do is pressure him out of the area. The area is small, and the only other way out is jumping onto the main platform (or to it's ledge). In reality, a mad dash to the area will make the opponent want to just leave the area, but if he's hesitant, and won't leave that area, there are still things that you can do. Give him a couple of projectiles to deal with being the first. Although not recommended, you could use your sword and risk close range combat with your opponent. Also, you can use the pellets that the stage gives you get him out. Last resort, you could just wait until the rain comes in. That'll flush him out and force him to the ledge, in which you can just attack him from the right, and he'll be pressured.

----

As for what I can bring to the back room, well, I can give more TL representation for those character discussions and give insight on other things that pertain to him. I can bring great arguments to the table about stages, rules, and any other discussion that sparks my interest back there. I can also test/provide information for some stages if needed.

With that, I'd like to thank you guys for reading, and hope that you'll let me in. :)

ZeroL's BBR Application
Well hello there, I'm ZeroL; a 14-year old smasher residing in Holland. My mains are Samus, Marth and Toon Link. I've already hosted many successfull smashfests here in Holland and I still am hosting them. I posted this application because I want to be in the BBR so I can finally do something back for the community that helped me get to my current metagame. But without further ado, here are my answers:

1. Are you a tournament host or co-host? If so, how successful are your tournaments, generally, and do you do anything different from the norm that you feel provides a better experience for the players than usual? If not, how are the tournaments in your area usually run? Is there anything unique about them?
Whilst I'm neither of those at the moment, I do host semi-large smashfests each month in The Netherlands. About 16 players each time and most of the time the top 5/10 of Holland is attending.

2. What part of Brawl do you know the most about? Do you specialize in a character, or know of some or all of the cast, or do you instead look into the game's physics? Maybe you prefer researching into the proper mindset and thought processes? Give your answer here.
I'm a Samus, Marth and Toon Link main so those three characters would probably be what I know the most about. I am the best Samus in Holland, for Marth and Toon Link I'm not sure, but definitely not Marth since that's Mr-R already xD. I know Samus', Marth's and Toon Link's moves really good; where they reach, in what other moves they might combo and when they will kill. But then again researching into the prober mindset and thought processes doesn't sound bad either.

3. How often do you attend tournaments? How familiar are you with your local scene? Your regional scene? The nation?
I try to attend almost every tourney in Holland, but sadly in the past I haven't been able to go as much as I'd like. I'm pretty familiar with the Dutch smash scene. I live in the part of Holland with Kaak, Mr-R and T, three top 10 players from Holland who happen to all live 20 minutes away from here, and pretty much the rest of that part of Holland isn't to shabby either.

4. How is your overall tournament performance? Please link results, if available.
Because of some problems lately I haven't been able to go to tournaments and get results. However once I do get results, I'll be sure to notify the BBR of it.

5. Reshiram or Zekrom?
Zekrom, definitely Zekrom. He looks way cooler then Reshiram.

6. What aspect of the game would you like to see the BBR look into/work on?
I would like to see the BBR look into perhaps team match-ups. Instead of an A vs. B match-up you could do an A + B vs C + D match-up. And ofcourse I am more then willing to help with that.

7. Finally, if you haven't already, please link to posts of any contributions you have made in the past; what do you feel you would bring to the Brawl Back Room?
Because I haven't been active on Smashboards in the past I sadly have to say I can not provide you with any contributions. However since my interest in Brawl has grown an awful lot these days I will begin to get active.

Sincere regards, ZeroL

I'm Eggz, a well respected (and possibly pompous?) Melee & Brawl player in the northwest. I study mindsets, improvement and patterns in smash and all things. I like intelligent discussion, which isn't found anywhere on the boards which leads me to be a spammy weirdo most of the time.

1. Are you a tournament host or co-host? If so, how successful are your tournaments, generally, and do you do anything different from the norm that you feel provides a better experience for the players than
usual? If not, how are the tournaments in your area usually run? Is there anything unique about them?

On the off chance I host tournaments since I quit running monthlies, its generally more of a party situation where the proceeds go to alcohol. Conclusively, I offer a pretty unique experience. We have brawl/melee monthlies. Pretty standard tournaments ran efficiently and such.

2. What part of Brawl do you know the most about? Do you specialize in a character, or know of some or all of the cast, or do you instead look into the game's physics? Maybe you prefer researching into the proper mindset and thought processes? Give your answer here.

Pretty much all of my skill in Brawl comes from knowing how to control my mindset and the opponent's and predict. I don't know frame data or anything, but I play a pretty well above average metaknight.

3. How often do you attend tournaments? How familiar are you with your local scene? Your regional scene? The nation?

I attend several tournaments a month, and an out of region tournament at least once a season. I follow the scene pretty diligently.

4. How is your overall tournament performance? Please link results, if available.

http://allisbrawl.com/medals.aspx?id=683
I consistently place top 5 in my region.

5. Reshiram or Zekrom?

**** you.

6. What aspect of the game would you like to see the BBR look into/work on?

Mental gameplay and the science of player consistency.

7. Finally, if you haven't already, please link to posts of any contributions you have made in the past; what do you feel you would bring to the Brawl Back Room?

I have a lot of insight into how the game works as well as an aptitude for finding ways to improve almost anything, so I feel I could help the backroom improve in whatever is discussed. I'd like to help shape the community into a more refined entity, as I'm tired of everyone being so bad and misguided. I don't really have anything to link to, as most of my helpful posts are outdated guides in the Mario thread or obscure posts/private AIM convos or AiB blogs.

Hey, I'm lordhelmet, the Falcon main from Western Michigan. I'm a pretty straight-forward guy so if you have any questions, just ask.

1. Are you a tournament host or co-host? If so, how successful are your tournaments, generally, and do you do anything different from the norm that you feel provides a better experience for the players than usual? If not, how are the tournaments in your area usually run? Is there anything unique about them?
I am not. However, I do possess the skills neccesarry to run an event if the chance popped up. I'm organized, I know how to use Tio, and I have a solid stance on rulesets.

2. What part of Brawl do you know the most about? Do you specialize in a character, or know of some or all of the cast, or do you instead look into the game's physics? Maybe you prefer researching into the proper mindset and thought processes? Give your answer here.
I specialize in my main, Falcon. Few (if any) people rival me in terms of knowledge on Falcon's internal values and match-ups. I also possess a good base knowledge on general terms concerning Brawl. IE: I know how to use Frame Advance and collect frame data using PSA.

3. How often do you attend tournaments? How familiar are you with your local scene? Your regional scene? The nation?
I attend as often as I can, I have various johns that prevent me from going as frequently as I would like (money, ride, location johns) but I'm not just a random Wi-Fi player. I know my own state's scene fairly well, but I still have much to learn. As far as region/national knowledge goes, I have a fairly-good knowledge on my region (Midwest) and on a National basis.

4. How is your overall tournament performance? Please link results, if available.
My tournament performance has been lacking. I'm not the most freqent tourney-goer, I have a lot of work to do. I often choke under pressure, but I know I'm better than what I've placed. I think anyone other than Boxxy will vouch for me.
The fact that I main Falcon doesn't help much, either

Smashing the Backstage

Gameyard Showdown

Michigan Ball Z 2

5. Reshiram or Zekrom?
Anything past 3rd Gen Pokemon sucks, sorry.

6. What aspect of the game would you like to see the BBR look into/work on?
I would like the BBR to achieve solid standards and definitions.

For example: set a clear definition of what a tier list is and what the criteria for voting is. IE: 50% character results and 50% potential / theory for all characters.

From what I saw, many of the BBR members voted under different standards for the current tier list. Someone (for example) voted as if the entire metagame was centered around who can plank and who can stop planking. Some placed Jiggly high because he "has potential" while others dropped her to the bottom becausehe has no results.

I believe the BBR could put a little more work into defining the ruleset. I'm all for having options (the stagelist) but when you have inconsistencies (suicide rule and "honoring the game's decision") that's when I have beefs.

7. Finally, if you haven't already, please link to posts of any contributions you have made in the past; what do you feel you would bring to the Brawl Back Room?
Most of my good posts are buried under pages of match-up discussions. Which is why I prefer running topics myself - you can see for yourself that I control a lot of threads on the Falcon Boards.

The larger wall of text you post, the more likely it will get ignored - I try to keep my posts short and sweet.

Discussing Kirby vs Falcon

On Falcon's FH nair frame data

On Falcon's dtilt

On Falcon's ftilt

---

Big threads I run on the Falcon Boards currently:

The Captain Falcon Match-Up General Discussion

The New Captain Falcon Metagame Guide

Show Me Ya Frames - Captain Falcon's Frame Data

The New Falcon Board's Compendium

---

As far as what I can provide the BBR with - Captain Falcon knowledge. That's really why I'm applying, almost every character has someone in there repping them. Falcon? The only people from the BBR I've seen post intelligently about Falcon is .joel, Inferno, and Pierce.

Being a stubborn low tier main, I am not satisfied when I see a general lack of knowledge on my character.

Greetings BBR. My name is Tin Man. I'm a 19 year old smasher from East Coast Canada (Toronto, Ontario to be specific). I'm in my second year of University, and I major in Game development & Entrepreneurship.

I have been playing Smash since 64 but started competitively in Brawl. I started playing in tournaments just over a year ago (june 2009) but it didn't take me too long to make my scene realize how strong a player I am and how valuable my contributions have been.

Questions:

1. Are you a tournament host or co-host? If so, how successful are your tournaments, generally, and do you do anything different from the norm that you feel provides a better experience for the players than usual? If not, how are the tournaments in your area usually run? Is there anything unique about them?

I am a tournament Host & Co-host :D!

I started by co-hosting a tournament earlier this year. Here is the link:

No Waahs 2: Balls Mandatory (Tourney page)

No Waahs 2: Balls Mandatory (Results page)

I then Proceeded to hosting tournaments. In the span of two months, I hosted 3 tournaments :]. Here are the links to them:

Brewin up some Brawl (Tourney page)

Brewin up some Brawl (Results page)

Brewin up some Brawl 2: MLG Prep (Tourney page)

Brewin up some Brawl 2: MLG Prep (Results page)

Brewin up some Brawl 3:
The Finale (Tourney page)

Brewin up some Brawl 3:
The Finale (Results page)

My co-host lost the venue because his parents owned it and they decided to sell it in july of this year, therefore I was unable to continue providing for my scene, however I am contributing/co-hosting another tournament that we have coming up. Here is the link:

The Monster (S)Mash

The tournaments that I have helped with have generally been extremely successful. I have received plenty of positive feed back from them, and have continued to make the next one more efficient than the 1st.

The tournaments in my region are normally run with polls 1st, in order to determine seeding and cut off people so that there can be an even & full Bracket.

Brackets are double elimination. The rules strictly follow the SBR rule set. Every tournament I have helped out with has followed the SBR recommended rule set (except for my MLG prep tourney). So that means all but 1 event that I have ever (co-)hosted were SBR certified.

Its fairly common, but every tournament I host, runs multiple events. I have constantly run Brawl+ events & even Rock-Paper-Scissor's events.

2. What part of Brawl do you know the most about? Do you specialize in a character, or know of some or all of the cast, or do you instead look into the game's physics? Maybe you prefer researching into the proper mindset and thought processes? Give your answer here.

I specialize in matchups. I main Olimar & ROB (and I'm picking up Falco, + I have a plethora of secondaries ;)). I specialize in these characters and i'm current with their meta game. I'm on the ROB PR, and I was also chosen by the ROB community to be a panelist on the ROB PR. Here is the link:

ROB Power Rankings

This proves that I am respected by the ROB community and that I have been recognized as one of the superior ROB players among them.

The Olimar boards currently don't have a PR or an active back room, but i post and contribute there on a regular basis.

I also watch several videos, not only of my mains, but of other characters as well. In addition, I talk to various different people who main different characters and hear what they have to say about match ups. I like to look at the match up threads of different character boards, so that I can keep myself updated with the match ups of that character.

3. How often do you attend tournaments? How familiar are you with your local scene? Your regional scene? The nation?

I have attended every tournament (except for one) that happened in my region this year.

I am very familiar with my local/region/national scene.

The local scene runs smashfests at the nearby University on a weekly basis. Recently we started getting kicked out but after a while, people started to repopulate the smashfest at the university.

Here is a little description of how the regional scene is. The scene started off really strong in 2008 but towards the end of last year, it began to dwindle as players started picking up SSF4, melee, or just lost interest in the game.

Seeing this happening to my scene depressed me because i didn't spend much time while the scene was at its prime. I stepped up and started hosting tournaments. I was able to maintain the scene, and it was good again, but then I lost access to the venue I was using, and the scene started to dwindle once again. Someone then found a venue and started up another tournament, and I jumped on board ASAP and I'm supporting it through & through!

In terms of Canada's national scene, neighboring provinces travel to each other (Quebec travels to Ontario & Alberta travels to British-Columbia). However, outside that, there isn't much travel happening. There are 6 regions within Canada. These regions are the provinces that play Brawl. Ontario (Northern Ontario & southern Ontario are 2 different regions since they are about 6 hours away and both scenes are big enough), Quebec, Nova Scotia, Alberta, and British-Columbia. Canada has yet to have a national Brawl tournament, however I plan to change that in the near future.

4. How is your overall tournament performance? Please link results, if available.

Here is every tournament I have ever attended (in order of date):

Two Seven = Win ~ June 27th, 2009 Placing: 13/36 (singles)

Super Summer Brawl ~ July 18th, 2009 Placing: 13/32 (singles)

Havoc in the Hammer ~ August 15th, 2009 Placing: 13/48 (singles)

Pownz December Decimation ~ December 19th, 2009 Placing: 4/21 (singles), 3/6 (doubles)

No Waahs: The Return of the Troll ~ January 9th, 2010 Placing: 17/52 (singles), 5/17 (doubles)

Lets Brawl Toronto 2 ~ February 6th, 2010 Placing: 17/65 (singles)

No Waahs 2: Balls Mandatory ~ April 10th, 2010 Placing: 9/41 (singles), 4/9 (doubles)

Brewin up some Brawl ~ May 1st, 2010 Placing: 5/45 (singles), 3/13 (doubles)

Brewin up some Brawl 2: MLG Prep ~ May 22nd, 2010 Placing: 9/34 (singles), 4/17 (doubles)

Brewin up some Brawl 3:
The Finale ~ June 26th, 2010
Placing: 7/20 (singles)

5. Reshiram or Zekrom?

Zekrom. I like his name better, and he's black. Also, electric types don't have as many weaknesses as fire types. So basically I like him better., and there is actually a logical reason for me to choose him as well.

6. What aspect of the game would you like to see the BBR look into/work on?

I would be most interested in seeing the BBR work on character match ups. There has been some work done by Rajam, however his match up chart is incomplete. I would like it if there was a complete match up chart that everyone was able to refer to. Character boards work on match ups independently. This results in character boards discussing match ups in an untimely fashion, and often without the help of the character board relating to the match up they are discussing.

The other thing that I would like to see the BBR put more work on would be the stages, and how the affect the match ups. What I have yet to see something that resembles a chart of all the stages, and the characters performances relative to others. It would be updated as the meta games change.

This would require the effort of all of the character boards, and this is something I would be very interested in helping out/working on.

7. Finally, if you haven't already, please link to posts of any contributions you have made in the past; what do you feel you would bring to the Brawl Back Room?

Here are posts of my match up knowledge:

ROB vs MK matchup

ROB vs Snake matchup

ROB vs Diddy matchup

ROB vs Ice Climbers matchup

ROB vs Marth matchup

ROB vs Pikachu matchup

ROB vs King Dedede matchup

Olimar vs Snake matchup

The Olimar boards didn't really have a dedicate match up thread until recently when they revived the old one, so it didn't really give me much of an opportunity to share my knowledge.

Hello! I'm Today or Day.
I'm from the Midwest, and a Game and Watch player. I'm the moderator for both Midwest and Game and Watch.
My goals is to keep activity within both and allow the Midwest scene to grow.
I absolutely love Smash. I love playing the game competitively and I love debating about it. If I believe in something, I stick with it and prove it with facts.

1. Are you a tournament host or co-host? If so, how successful are your tournaments, generally, and do you do anything different from the norm that you feel provides a better experience for the players than usual? If not, how are the tournaments in your area usually run? Is there anything unique about them?

I am a tournament host. I actually host probably the largest Midwest tournaments.
Link to thread: http://www.smashboards.com/showthread.php?t=271256

School is in Session was an idea by me to get more local players together as well as players all over the Midwest.

School is in Session 1 Results
The first one was an MLG prep for MLG Columbus.
There were 31 Singles Entrants and 11 Doubles Entrants.
My goal for this tournament was to get people together and to spread the word of MLG Columbus. It had entrants from MI, KY, IN, and a few parts of OH.

School is in Session 2 Results
The 2nd one went up to 54 Singles entrants and 18 doubles entrants.
We managed to get most of OH, KY, IN, and MI again.
We also had newer locals we decided to come and absolutely loved the tournament scene and plan on traveling to more tournaments.

School is in Session 3 Results
However, the absolute big one was School is in Session 3. (which also became featured on All is Brawl) Attendance doubled in size from the 2nd with 117 Singles Entrants and 36 Doubles Entrants.

We had players from all over:
Missouri, Illinois, Ohio, Kentucky, Indiana, Michigan, Maryland/Virginia, New Jersy and more.

A lot of the top and known players attended:
Ally
Allied
Atomsk
Zucco
Speed
Coney
Lain
Shugo
Judge
and many more.

Everyone absolutely loved it and plan on coming to the fourth one which will even end up becoming a two day event.

Other tournaments I've done:
Smashing Through the Stones
Results: http://www.smashboards.com/showthread.php?t=268781
This tournament was to raise money for Haiti as well as to allow the community to get together to have fun and do something good while doing it.

And mini tournaments: Fiesta

My goal for being a tournament host is to allow the community to come together and grow.
This is what School is in Session 3 provided.
The smash community is one large family. I want everyone to play together, grow together, and become better players together. I hope I can continue to provide to every single player how it feels to be together.

2. What part of Brawl do you know the most about? Do you specialize in a character, or know of some or all of the cast, or do you instead look into the game's physics? Maybe you prefer researching into the proper mindset and thought processes? Give your answer here.

I have to say the one thing I know the most about Brawl are the characters.
I love love love debating and discussing characters. I highly enjoy discussing general Brawl, stages, etc.
I know most if all of the whole cast, but of course most of my knowledge is about Game and Watch whom is my main.

I love discussing characters the most because I feel like there are so many fill-ins for discussion.
What does this character do? What is he/she best on? Who can they win against? Lose? Why? Are they better in this situation? Worse?
All these questions run in my mind, and I want to discuss each and every single one.

3. How often do you attend tournaments? How familiar are you with your local scene? Your regional scene? The nation?

How often do I attend tournaments?
I will admit, I have only been playing for almost a year now in the smash scene. But I've had tournament attendance greater than a lot of people. When I first joined it was a tournament every weekend. Although currently it has slowed down because of school starting up again I am still very much large in most of the community.

You can say I AM the local scene. Cincinnati, Ohio has tons and tons of great players here. There are smashfests everywhere all the time.
The reason why I can say I am the local scene is because of my tournaments. I am Cincinnati's largest TO, one of Ohio's largest TO, and one of Midwest's largest TO.

Regional, we travel to Kentucky and Indiana very consistently. Sadly, we are the Midwest and our scene is extremely spread out more than the coasts. However, I won't let that stop me from visiting others in the Midwest.

National, I love national tournaments and traveling.
I've been to Pound 4, MLG, and VG Bootcamp.
I hope to go to MLG Dallas.
There is nothing more than I love than national tournaments and the scene all over. I've met so many people from the south, the west, and the east. Everyone is great, and I want to consistently see and visit them.
I am known at tournaments from all over, and I continue to be.

The reason why I'm big into tournaments is because I adore competitiveness! Of course the people is a huge reason as well. But competitive game play is just absolutely amazing to me. This person beat that person with this character! How good is this player? How does this player contribute to the overall game or his/her character? Did this person make their character better? I want to be there to witness it all.

4. How is your overall tournament performance? Please link results, if available.

Although I am somewhat "new" to the tournament scene, I'm a very fast learner.

I'm an honorable mention in the Ohio PR: Ohio PR

My results, although not exceedingly well, they are still very] good.
School is in Session 1 9th out of 31

School is in Session 2 13th out of 54 Singles, 4th out of 18 Doubles

School is in Session 3 Doubles only: 7th out of 36 teams

OUGA
13th out of 38 Singles, 5th out of 11th Doubles

ISA
Doubles only: 7th out of 18th

My extraordinary wins are within doubles:
School is in Session 2
Defeated:
King Beef and Blue Rogue, both #3 and #6 on the Ohio PR.

School is in Session 3
Defeated:
Infern Angelis (#5 OH PR) and Krystedez (#1 KY PR)
Overswarm and Kel (#2 OH PR)

5. Reshiram or Zekrom?
They look like Digimon.... so neither...
hope the competitive play is good.

6. What aspect of the game would you like to see the BBR look into/work on?

I would like the BBR to work on more characters that aren't really usually looked into much. (Mid/lower tiers).
I also would like more discussion on just overall game play and tactics that can work, again, for all characters.
Doubles discussion of sorts would be very well liked.
Discovering tactics that will not limit characters, but still balance the game.
MORE trial and error. Things need to be tested a lot.
We can have theories.

7. Finally, if you haven't already, please link to posts of any contributions you have made in the past; what do you feel you would bring to the Brawl Back Room?

I feel like I can bring a lot to the backroom.
I like to dig deep into things, find its meaning, ask tons of questions, and getting to the point.
I'm very knowledgeable when it comes to the tournament scene, general scene, doubles, and characters.

I enjoy asking questions, I savor in getting opinions, I want to see the facts.

I like to play devil's advocate.

I take pleasure in trying things out and researching.

But there is nothing more than I enjoy is discussion.

Game and Watch Matchup Thread
Discussing matchups is a strong-point of mine. Why does this character beat this one? Stages should be a factor. If you played like this does it work against that character? What moves should you use or not use?
Matchup Export
Export

For awhile I helped contribute to the Snake boards by giving critiques on what is best for each Snake player:
Snake Critique

I pretty much run everything in the Game and Watch boards.

Tons of pages went through my tournament thread about having LGL or not.
I highly disapprove in the idea of LGL since it limits other characters, not just MK.
Debate Begins This goes on for awhile.

I have some friends in the BBR, and I discuss with them daily about characters, stages, physics, etc.

I want to continue to learn more and more and to show more and more.

I don't want to do just characters, I want all of what Brawl has and holds. I want to show you what I know and what I will do.

And of course being a moderator I didn't get there from winking my eyes and twirling my skirt.
I got there from all the work and contribution I bring.
I brought a lot to the Game and Watch boards and bring a lot to the Midwest scene and I continue to bring to both boards are much as possible. I don't only want to contribute to my boards, but to the boards everywhere all over Smashboards.

Hello to the Brawl Back Room! My name is Auspher. I'm a 21 year old Wolf main from Medina, Ohio, but I go to college at Ohio University, so I'm familiar with the smash scenes in both NEOH and OUGA/Athens.

1. Are you a tournament host or co-host? If so, how successful are your tournaments, generally, and do you do anything different from the norm that you feel provides a better experience for the players than usual? If not, how are the tournaments in your area usually run? Is there anything unique about them?

I have never run or co-hosted a tournament, but I am interested in learning more about it and possibly running one of my own tournaments. The Northeast Ohio area is kind of lacking in tournaments, so it probably wouldn't be a bad idea in terms of getting our scene more active.

As for details of the tournaments in our area, we've had a couple just a someone's house, and there is a tournament coming up in December that will be hosted at Solecalibur's "mansion". It's a pretty big place and even has a pool, so it's not a bad venue at all. Over the Summer, there was also a Brawl tournament that was run alongside of a larger Super Street Fighter IV tournament in Parma Heights, Ohio. The venue was at a pretty large Bar/Restaurant, and it ran pretty smoothly.

2. What part of Brawl do you know the most about? Do you specialize in a character, or know of some or all of the cast, or do you instead look into the game's physics? Maybe you prefer researching into the proper mindset and thought processes? Give your answer here.

I specialize in knowledge of my main(Wolf) in particular, but I also play Lucas, and play with OUGA and NEOH often, so I know about a good amount of MUs across the board. I've also experimented with both Aggressive and Patient play styles. I generally utilize both in a fight, but find that playing Patiently tends to be more rewarding, especially against characters like Falco and Olimar.

3. How often do you attend tournaments? How familiar are you with your local scene? Your regional scene? The nation?

I try to go to a couple tournaments a month, though college makes it hard to just make it out to one. I am most likely attending Delta Upsilon V in Columbus, Ohio at the end of October. I'm familiar with both the NEOH scene(where I live) and the OUGA/Athens area scene(I go to college at Ohio University). I've attended School is in Session 2 and 3, which are regional tournaments now in the Midwest, and plan on going to School is in Session 4 in January. As for nationals, I've been to MLG Columbus.

4. How is your overall tournament performance? Please link results, if available.

My tournament performance isn't anything spectacular. I'll link to a couple tournaments I did decently in.

1 l 9th out of 17 / Lake Erie Summer slam6-26-10 / Parma, Ohio

2 l 9th out of 20 /Ichi-Kakuto-Gemu/7-10-10/ Worthington, Ohio

5. Reshiram or Zekrom?

Zekrom. He just looks like a really cool Pokemon, and the Dragon/Electric type combination seems pretty interesting. I'm not 100% on Pokemon White though, as it depends on the other Pokemon that are available in that version.

6. What aspect of the game would you like to see the BBR look into/work on?

The thread about changing the damage ratio to 1.1 is pretty interesting. It's a different way to possibly make the game more balanced, without banning MK. Researching more into this could possibly be beneficial to the scene.

7. Finally, if you haven't already, please link to posts of any contributions you have made in the past; what do you feel you would bring to the Brawl Back Room?

Wolf vs. King DeDeDe Match-up analysis: http://www.smashboards.com/showpost.php?p=11230377&postcount=2

I was asked what advantages Lucas could have against Wolf on Norfair. My response: http://www.smashboards.com/showpost.php?p=11424831&postcount=10

The Wolf Board Interview Thread as a way to foster community within the boards: http://www.smashboards.com/showthread.php?t=287386

That's all I can remember that's recent. What I'd bring to the backroom is a new perspective, as I don't think that there are any Wolf mains in there. I feel that I could teach the BBR more about him in regards to how he's played, because frankly, it seems that a lot of people just aren't very knowledgeable about him in general. I also would be able to provide my experience with MUs in regards to not only my main, but with several other characters I have a decent amount of experience playing. I can be counted on to not only take part in discussions and vote, but also to NOT vote and make it known that I don't know enough about a subject, therefore just asking questions in the discussion and possibly educating others that are unfamiliar with a subject.

Also, Pierce does an excellent job in the PR department, but he's only human. I would love to help him out.

Thank you for reading this application, and I look forward to hearing back from the Brawl Back Room in the near future!

Heya! I'm J, a 16 year old smasher from Maryland who is a Junior in High School. I have been playing smash since I got Smash64 as one of my first video games. However I have become competitive with Brawl with my main Lucas who I have been using since 2008 when the game first started. I know just about everything about this character and quite a few others. I am a Discussion Leader for the Lucas boards and try and keep things nice and smooth with my threads.

I am one of the few people on this site who actually have taken the time to look into Doubles. I have made quite a few threads and posts which will be linked lower in the application.

Now it's time to answer these questions
:

1. Are you a tournament host or co-host? If so, how successful are your tournaments, generally, and do you do anything different from the norm that you feel provides a better experience for the players than usual? If not, how are the tournaments in your area usually run? Is there anything unique about them?

I am not an offline tournament host, however I do try and host online tournaments that seem to be a bit effective. I do know for a fact though running an offline tournament and running an online tournament are two very different things. I have been planning to host my first offline tournament soon with a couple friends of mine. I also have been convincing my school's A/V club to begin hosting Brawl tournaments in order to bring in some funds to our school and have some fun with a great smash community. This would open more people into the world of competitive smash and hopefully help the community grow.

The tournaments in my area are run very smoothly whenever I go to one. My parents used to be a bit sceptical about letting me go to tournaments but then once they saw how well the tournaments were run and how nice the people were in my community I was able to start going to tournaments alot more. What is unique about them? I would say how many people actually go to tournaments and how quickly/smoothly they are run. I really like going to my area's tournaments.

2. What part of Brawl do you know the most about? Do you specialize in a character, or know of some or all of the cast, or do you instead look into the game's physics? Maybe you prefer researching into the proper mindset and thought processes? Give your answer here.

I would most definetely have to say doubles. I am such a doubles addict where I have basically looked into how EVERY character in brawl can do in doubles. I visit all of the boards on occasion to look and see their doubles threads but sadly alot of the boards do not have adequate doubles threads. I have provided and run a couple doubles threads and I have made posts in association to showing how some teams are good or how the are bad.

Threads made concerning doubles:
Lucas Doubles Thread
Zero Suit Samus Doubles Thread
Jigglypuff Doubles Thread

I had created the Link boards a doubles thread but had it given to someone who was writing efficient summaries and knew alot about Link in teams. I also plan on creating more efficient doubles threads for boards that seem to be lacking.

Posts (for doubles):
Link/Lucas in Teams
Link/ZSS in Teams

If you would care to see more stuff on what I have posted on doubles, read the summaries I have written for the Lucas boards and the Zero Suit Samus boards. The Jigglypuff thread has just been started so it is still a bit new.

Also Doubles is not the only thing I know alot about. I know just about everything on the awesome blonde child of brawl which is Lucas. <3 I write the Lucas MU summaries now and I own the thread. I also have many other threads in the Lucas boards which can be found here:

:lucas: Lucas Board Threads:
-Lucas Discussion threads
Lucas MU Discussion
Lucas Doubles Thread
- Stage Exports
#1 Castle Siege
#2 Delfino Plaza
#3 Pokemon Stadium 2
#4 Frigate Orpheon
-MU Exports
#1 Ice Climbers

As you can see, I am deeply involved in how Lucas is getting on within the boards and try and learn about him in every fact and every thing. I just CANNOT get bored of this kid. I am even in the middle of two projects for him. How much he can heal with his PSIM (would be a great assest for learning about him in doubles more) and a thread determining how early his Dthrow will kill with proper DI. I plan on doing more things in the future but this is what I have done at the current time.

Lucas is not the only character I know however. I have a basic grasp on every character in brawl. The characters I will say I have advanced knowledge on are Lucas, Zero Suit Samus, Peach, and Jigglypuff. Characters that I know quite alot about from researching, playing, watching vids, and talking to mains of these characters would be: Link, Olimar, Pikachu, Mr. Game&Watch, Sheik, Fox, and Ness.

3. How often do you attend tournaments? How familiar are you with your local scene? Your regional scene? The nation?

I try and attend a tournament once a month. It is a bit hard since I am 16 (no car) and have alot of AP college work in high school but I still try. I am not as familiar as some of the locals but I am starting to get to know more people. The only National I have been too is MLG DC and I had alot of fun there and met quiet a few new friends. I am planning on going to Pound and next year, pretty much all of the MLG's.

4. How is your overall tournament performance? Please link results, if available.

My overall tournament performance has not been that good as of late due to the fact I have been trying to learn more about brawl itself first. My placings may not be that well but my preformance is getting aloooot better than what it was when I first started. I did not too that bad at MLG DC however.

5. Reshiram or Zekrom?

Zekrom. I don't know why but he just looks alot cooler and a bit more evil. I tend to like the evil counterparts of alot of things.

6. What aspect of the game would you like to see the BBR look into/work on?

I would truly love to see the BBR try and focus a bit more on doubles since literally no one has taken any initiative to do so. I am trying with my threads and also my research to try and find more things. Dekar made a superb thread on doubles but it was never finished which in reality makes me sad.

I also would love to see more work developed into Low Tiers since some of those characters are still a bit un-developed and hold potential. I believe characters like Jiggs, Lucas, and Link can show some more if looked into.

7. Finally, if you haven't already, please link to posts of any contributions you have made in the past; what do you feel you would bring to the Brawl Back Room?

I have posted quiet a few links above as to why I believe I should be in the BBR. I have shown that I have an immense amount of knowledge on a certain character and I am trying to start more and more talks on Doubles.

What I would bring to the BBR is probably a bit different. I am definetely an optimist. I love looking at the brighter sides of things. I also think I would bring a great amount of knowledge on Low Tiers and Doubles. I am active as heck and I love to write a lot so my posts tend to be a bit on the biggish side.

Overall, I think I would make a great addition to the BBR team because I would be able to bring a bit more of a positive aspect to looking at things, more research towards doubles, and heck of a lot more with Lucas. It is really sad there is no BBR Lucas' =/ I love discussing the many different aspects of brawl at the competitive level and I think I would make a good addition to the team. I WANT to be able to help the community even more than I already am and I believe that I can truly help.

Thank you for even considering this application and letting me write this! I had fun :3c

Qualifications:

I'm Yikarur, I'm from germany and I live in NRW the western part of germany. I'm 19 years old and play Smash since the release of SSB64.
I entered the competitive scene with Brawl. Other "competitive" games I tried were Pokémon (since RSS) and Mario Kart Wii, well I quitted both because of the inherent luck factor that both games carried with them.

I'm a member of the german smash back room and I'm one of the more active members of the german smash board.
in SWF I'm more a lurker then a poster, thats mostly because of the time zone difference.
I post mainly in question/answer and frame data threads because I'm very knownledgeable about the game and inner mechaniques and more.
even though I know a lot about theoretical aspects of the game I distinguish praxis and theorie.
now the questions :3

Questions:
1. Are you a tournament host or co-host? If so, how successful are your tournaments, generally, and do you do anything different from the norm that you feel provides a better experience for the players than usual? If not, how are the tournaments in your area usually run? Is there anything unique about them?

I always help a lot of TOs at their tournaments, with Tio Knownledge, Seeding and I often discussed with TOs about their ruleset. We use mainly a very restricted Stage List, with neutrals only + brinstar and Orpheon and the community is fine with this since ever.
We have a lot of small tournaments (~30 people) and small smashfests (~10-15 people) every now and then. we have a really active scene actually.
I'm always at that tournaments/smashfests and help to run small tournaments with seeding and stuff.

2. What part of Brawl do you know the most about? Do you specialize in a character, or know of some or all of the cast, or do you instead look into the game's physics? Maybe you prefer researching into the proper mindset and thought processes? Give your answer here.

I know a lot about theoretical aspects about the game. I researched a lot on my own and when I notice I don't know something I start Brawl and get to know more about that.
the most knownledge is about Yoshi because I main him since ever, but I have a lot of knownledge about a lot of other characters too.
and I'm interested in getting more and more knownledge about the game.
I know a lot about general game mechaniques and more.
I'm not unreasonable Smash Researcher =D
A Mindset is the most important thing in practical play because you can't win with a bad mindset.
You have the highest chance of winning if you are at a good health and with a good mindset.
If you get angrily quickly because of misclicks or bad play your mindset turns bad immediatly.
I want to study psychology and so I'm very interested in mindset stuff :)

3. How often do you attend tournaments? How familiar are you with your local scene? Your regional scene? The nation?
My first Smashfest was in decembre 08 and after that I played offline Brawl continously and attented every smashfest and tournament if possible.
I attend any small tournament (if possible) in my region. I didn't miss a single smashfest/tournament in my region this summer. I was at the 2 biggest tournaments this summer in europe. Bushido Brawl Impact and Brawl in Berlin (well BiB was rather small in comparison to big tournaments D: )
I also travel to smashfests in the netherlands which are on the border to germany

4. How is your overall tournament performance? Please link results, if available.
I don't have that good placements (hack I main Yoshi lol) but I place Top5 in almost every big low tier tournaments (with one exception). I'm always at least Top32 at big tournaments.

5. Reshiram or Zekrom?

hard to say, I liked Zekrom more first but I like Reshiram more because it looks much gracefuler.

6. What aspect of the game would you like to see the BBR look into/work on?

well the BBR have to find a resolution for Planking because we all now it's in fact unbeatable (with MK) or very hard to beat (others)

7. Finally, if you haven't already, please link to posts of any contributions you have made in the past; what do you feel you would bring to the Brawl Back Room?

I don't feel like searching, I answered a lot of question in general Q/A, I post a lot in the SmashLab and help everyone who asks me as good as possible.

I want the BBR to become respected and more "official". A lot of people disrespect the BBR for different reasons and with the actual standards it seems this state of disrespect won't change.

Thanks for reading :3

If not, how are the tournaments in your area usually run? Is there anything unique about them?

I kind of am, I haven't ever run a competitive tournament, but a lot of my friends who don't play competitively, but still enjoy playing the game usually get together a couple of times a year and just throw a tournament and I run the whole thing and try to get them into the competitive scene by helping them get better. I try to help my scene out as much as I can since I can't go OoS that much and actually rep my state so usually I'll post the results thread and stuff and try to advertise the tournaments as much as I can recently we had a big tournament (SIEGE 2010; 103 entrants) and I posted the tournament in the tournament listing forum to try to get some big names to come out which they did =): http://www.smashboards.com/showthread.php?t=284873

I know quite a bit about each of the subjects, but I definitely know my character, Diddy Kong, the most out of those topics. I try to keep an open mind about new ATs or something that are seemingly useless and try to expand on them. I know pretty much anything that has been posted on the boards, even the ones that get left out and ignored from 2008 and just mess around with them to see what I can do. There's a few things that I know exclusively (AFAIK), but it's not that I'm trying to keep it some big secret, I've just been planning on getting a diddy kong tutorial video up and I was going to include it in there). Hypothetically speaking, if there was a test over stuff that's about techniques or ideas or any of the such that has been posted and you couldn't use your notes then I feel like I'd get an A easily. Game physics would have to be second. When playing other characters and they have their own little tricks that just bother and aggravate me I try to find ways around it or ways to block it for example pikachu's or olimars fthrow/dthrow > usmash combo I know you can SDI into the stage and tech it and punish them or that Diddy's nair is very good for getting pikmin off of him, but it's not that great of an idea because you can't have a banana in your hand while doing an aerial so instead you can z drop > nair and pick it back up (not saying that I came up with these things, I'm just saying not many people know about it and how good it is).

3. How often do you attend tournaments? How familiar are you with your local scene? Your regional scene? The nation?

I attend tournaments usually once a month, sometimes two since Georgia doesn't have a very big scene. I haven't traveled OoS yet, but I plan to next Summer. I'm very familiar with my local scene, I am power ranked 3rd in GA above Scatt and below BigLou and Kismet ( http://www.smashboards.com/showthread.php?t=285577 ). I'm also familiar with the regional and national scene, I just haven't participated in any tournaments. I always browse the tournament results thread after every weekend to see what people place where and all that and I'm fairly familiar with most states power rankings if they have one.

4. How is your overall tournament performance? Please link results, if available.

I almost always place top 5 at the regular monthlies I attend. The biggest tournament I've been to was a couple of weeks ago that had 103 entrants with some big names there such as Ally, Seibrik, NinjaLink, etc and placed 9th (unfortunately I had to leave because of how late the tournament was getting so I forfeited), I've won two tournaments, but both were when MOST of the good people were OoS, but we still had a decent amount of power ranked players there, but that was a while back. results:

5. Reshiram or Zekrom?

Reshiram definitely, although I plan on getting pokemon white so I'll have Zekrom... :3

6. What aspect of the game would you like to see the BBR look into/work on?

I'd really like to get the podcast going again because I ESPECIALLY loved listening to those. It'd be great also just to discuss a wide variety of things on it again like tournament results, MU discussions and how both can contribute to tier placings or the stage list again, etc.

7. Finally, if you haven't already, please link to posts of any contributions you have made in the past; what do you feel you would bring to the Brawl Back Room?

Like I said before I'm usually the person who post the results thread up for the monthly tournaments and also this:

http://www.smashboards.com/showthread.php?t=284873

This is some Diddy boards stuff:

http://www.smashboards.com/showthread.php?t=278156&highlight=jab+lock http://www.smashboards.com/showthread.php?t=213319 http://www.smashboards.com/showthread.php?t=235291&highlight=jab+lock http://www.smashboards.com/showthread.php?t=251657&highlight=jab+lock http://www.smashboards.com/showthread.php?t=252410 http://www.smashboards.com/showthread.php?t=246048

I think I'd bring a new angle to things in the BBR. I like to look at the small seemingly insignificant and overlooked things and try to expand on them more and try to put it into the metagame if it ends up being promising. I still look at all the things that seem significant as well and also try to come at those things from a different perspective to see if I find something else out. I try to keep an open mind on anything that is brought up and I work with it a bit before I shoot it down or agree with it.

Hey, I'm Excel. I'm a 20yr. old Sonic main from Louisville, KY and I'm interested in trying to see if I have a shot in the BBR. I'm not the most stellar guy ever but here goes a shot.

1. Are you a tournament host or co-host? If so, how successful are your tournaments, generally, and do you do anything different from the norm that you feel provides a better experience for the players than usual? If not, how are the tournaments in your area usually run? Is there anything unique about them?

I guess you could say that. I've hosted 2 tournaments at my house. Smashopolis Zone and Weekend Wars. I've only got one of the tournaments on file here as we kinda lost the tournament results to Weekend Wars...

But anyways, the tournaments were both successful. I'm thankful for Hilt's experience in TO'ing and his influence to make sure I got some attendance. I ran my tournaments with standard rules but I did use a conservative stage list; one that resembles an EC stage list.

I'm still waiting for my tournament director title...:glare:

2. What part of Brawl do you know the most about? Do you specialize in a character, or know of some or all of the cast, or do you instead look into the game's physics? Maybe you prefer researching into the proper mindset and thought processes? Give your answer here.

Well I'm a Sonic main. So, I know pretty much everything necessary about my character. I was a Fox main for about a year until I hit some hard times with him and went on to maining Sonic. I do however, know fair amount about Fox's match-ups and I have posted a few match-up inputs.

Fox vs Olimar

Fox vs DDD

Fox vs DK <---That was more of a CP discussion than the match-up itself.

I tend to focus a little more on stage selection with Sonic more-so than match-ups. Since I spent more time goofing off on different stages since I never had consistent practice for MUs and such. So, I can give insight on stages.

3. How often do you attend tournaments? How familiar are you with your local scene? Your regional scene? The nation?

I've been traveling and attending tournaments over 2 years now. So, I'm extremely familiar with my scene locally and regionally. I'm pretty familiar with the goings-on with other states as I'm always lurking threads and occasionally posting in socials and stuff. I'm a bit of a data bank as far as players and their character and their results.

4. How is your overall tournament performance? Please link results, if available.

I feel like I'm a legit player, I'm just really streaky. So, my results are weird and inconsistent.

5. Reshiram or Zekrom?

Zekrom. Reshiram is too...meh. Truth be told, I want a Pokemon that I wouldn't have to vacuum every 2 weeks.

6. What aspect of the game would you like to see the BBR look into/work on?

I feel like the BBR should work on a stage list that the community can meet halfway on. It's been 2 years, I feel like we should be used to most of the stages by now. Now, let's pick which stages would be the most balanced for neutral and the ones that aren't overwhelmingly janky for CPs.

Possibly testing on a MK temp ban. Like, at this point people have pretty much come up with the most off the wall ways to play this game and TRY to keep MK in the game and "balance" him. It's pretty obvious that MK is a dominant force; one of which that renders alot of characters obsolete as far a metagame goes. I'd like to see the results of a nationwide MK temp ban just to see if people are living up to their hype, without their MK main or secondary.

7. Finally, if you haven't already, please link to posts of any contributions you have made in the past; what do you feel you would bring to the Brawl Back Room?

I've posted here and there in the match-up discussions for Fox but I've never really done anything noteworthy around here. I'm no Crow! or DMG or Pierce7d. But, I am willing to go that length to make a difference around here.

I'm a fairly level-headed individual and I'm open to any idea. I've goofed off with the 1.1 setting and it wasn't too big of a deal outside of Snake killing at like -12 but that's Snake in general. It does make SDI'ing multihit attacks much easier which could shift some match-ups substantially because some characters can't deal with the multihitting attacks due to their large frames or physics or whatever it could be about that character.

Overall, I'm a not a random but I'm also not a huge influential power in the Smash community. Just a fairly knowledgeable individual who could add another open and hopefully, unbiased point of view to the BBR.

Introduction

Hey everyone, my name’s Arda but here on SWF I go by Ishieymoro (Ish or Ishiey works just fine). I’m currently a freshman engineer/psych double major at Rutgers University in NJ and go solo Wolf in tournaments. I moderate the Wolf boards here and for what it’s worth, everyone there loves me and the feeling is certainly mutual <3 We’re a pretty close bunch, and I’m also pretty talkative with Wolf users that don’t go on the boards much in my area when I run into them at a tournament, such as Xzax, Ether, and Yes!

As a person, I’m very tolerant, open-minded, friendly, relaxed, about as unbiased as a human being can get, extremely interested in gathering all the knowledge I can to make a better decision (for example… I read through every single post in this thread to see what differentiated good applications from bad ones in my eyes so I’d be better equipped to write a good application @___@), and all for sharing information with anyone that wants to hear it. People should not lose to a low/mid tier through lack of knowledge on a consistent basis imo, and I don’t approve of misinforming others for my benefit in tournament (hence why you’ll see me do my best to be active in matchup discussions). I’m also a perfectionist, and that’s kinda why this took so long to sumbit this application… not that it’s anywhere near perfect though lol, just… if you’re a perfectionist you know how it is X_x

When I type I tend to drag things out, so sorry in advance if this app ends up being longer than it really needs to be :x Here goes!

1. Are you a tournament host or co-host? If so, how successful are your tournaments, generally, and do you do anything different from the norm that you feel provides a better experience for the players than usual? If not, how are the tournaments in your area usually run? Is there anything unique about them?

Nope :( I really want to run tournaments with experimental rulesets, but you know how it is with things just not working out (time, funds, venue, other life priorities, time, etc…). Tournaments in my area aren’t anything too out-of-the ordinary, I’ll save you some time since plenty of others have talked about the tournaments around here. The one thing I want to point out is that there are still many different viewpoints on how rulesets should be around here, and it feels as if TOs are slowly trying out more liberal ideas.

2. What part of Brawl do you know the most about? Do you specialize in a character, or know of some or all of the cast, or do you instead look into the game's physics? Maybe you prefer researching into the proper mindset and thought processes? Give your answer here.

My character, by a loooooooong shot. I communicate with everyone that can help provide information on stages/matchups/tactics with/against Wolf, and as a result I can pool together knowledge from various sources to reach more thorough and logical conclusions. Without a doubt, if you want to know about Wolf, I have you covered, and what I’m not sure about I’ll discuss with other competent Wolf mains (as well as those they play against) to see what they know and come back with a full report. You know how Atomsk used Wolf for a while? I basically taught him Wolf by myself… yeah. Turned out pretty well lol, even if it was short-lived.

I do my best to keep myself updated on frame data, and often analyze frame data to find punishing options/safety of attacks. This is especially important for Wolf since his game involves racking up a lot of damage through punishes, and knowing attack frame data + jumpsquat stuff + how to calculate frame advantages helps me figure out intelligent punishing options (I split punishes into guaranteed and borderline punishes, the latter of which depends on when the opponent cancels the aerial and human reaction time etc, but this isn’t the place to get into that). I also have at least a basic understanding about every character in the game, but honestly everyone should have that at this point. When it comes to little tricksies and other such information I’m fairly knowledgeable as well: using b-reversed momentum-stopping specials for momentum cancelling, how there are different kinds of hitstun (VERY important for combos), footstool single banana infinite, platform cancelling, how Marth and Ike can counter-stall on Norfair, etc you get the idea.

Even though I haven’t done much research myself, stage mechanics and what should/shouldn’t be considered a “legal stage” are areas that I’m very interested in. I’ve lurked in the Stage Discussion forum plenty and read up on posts about stage mechanics by people like Raziek and explanations on what it really takes to warrant a ban for a stage by people such as BPC. Personally, I’m for testing out more liberal stage lists until there is clearly a problem with the stage (I’m testing them out myself), but only a few at a time to prevent the new CP options from becoming overwhelming. I’m also interested in (and fairly knowledgeable about) how to play depending on %s (like how people stay in shield more at high %s unless you have a killing throw, sucking up Fox’s lasers to make a more effective approach once you’re already in usmash KO range, etc). Ledge pressure is a strong point of mine, and most recently I’ve been looking into the defensive benefits of crouching (both very important aspects to Brawl imo).

Perhaps the best (and by best I mean shortest) summary would be to say that I have been compared to Pierce before in the sense that I know a LOT about this game but for some reason can’t seamlessly transfer all of that knowledge into practice yet ^^; But without a doubt, if you want to know all about Wolf I’m your guy.

3. How often do you attend tournaments? How familiar are you with your local scene? Your regional scene? The nation?

I don’t get out nearly as much as I would like to :/ but that’s getting better bit by bit now that my parents don’t have as much of a say :p Perhaps once every few months in the past, but now it’s looking more like once a month or so. I’m fairly familiar with my region but nothing out-of-the-ordinary. When it comes to good-yet-obscure players, I know of them for the most part, but that’s about it aside from Atomsk who lives a mile away from my house so I know him pretty well (he was my main training buddy during high school).

4. How is your overall tournament performance? Please link results, if available.

At the most recent KTAR I knocked Doom out of the tournament (ranked 7th on NJ PR) and at the KTAR before that I did the same to Chibo (ranked 2nd on PA PR), so despite my lack of top 8 results I suppose I’m a proficient enough player. Whenever I lose, I’m confident in saying that it’s simply because I got outplayed and needed a better mindset (I figured out what screws that over recently actually, I think…). I’m able to improve much quicker now, and I’m looking forward to my next tournament (Inui’s Great Revival on the 20th)... But anyways, I digress. Results:

KTAR 3 (25/74)
APEX 2010: 4th in pools round 1, bleh :<
KTAR 2 (25/65)

5. Reshiram or Zekrom?

Oh man, I could go on all day about Pokemon… but maybe another time. Gonna have to say Zekrom due to greater bamf factor.

6. What aspect of the game would you like to see the BBR look into/work on?

This is going to be tough to narrow down. Iirc the Smash Lab has things like looking deeper into game mechanics and stuff under control, but I think it might be wise to give them the duty of testing customizable options like 1.1 damage ratio and (especially this one) creating a series of videos to serve as a “Smash Tutorial” about SDI (really… SDI is huge) and momentum-cancelling and individual character ATs etc all uploaded under a single Youtube user account (kinda like how innocentroads has a huge collection of videos). With such a centralized information resource, new players will be able to catch up a lot quicker and it will just look significantly more professional in general. Anyways, enough of that, this question isn’t about how the work should be split up and how I’m interested in seeing the BBR operate, it’s about Brawl itself.

I would like to see the BBR look into characters outside of high-tier a bit more and attempt to squeeze out an OFFICIAL matchup chart. This is going to be borderline impossible to do but if the members have strong connections to their communities (specifically character communities, which is unfortunately mostly based online) and can work together with other character communities on discussing/testing a matchup in-depth, it would be beautiful. BBR members could try setting up serious friendlies between competent mains of each character at tournaments or smashfests and watch the recorded videos as well as hear back from each player about their thoughts on how to approach the matchup, what works, what doesn’t, stages, etc.

Other stuff about the game itself that would be cool to look into (in order of personal preference) is posting full descriptions on why a stage is a starter/CP/ban and the possibility of including custom stages (I’ve seen some really good ones in hacks, they’d be especially great for teams play… this stage stuff might be better off left to the Smash Lab though, and if they find that a certain character might be OP on a stage a high-level main can be given the task of testing it in serious friendlies or something, idk), mindsets for the game in general (as well as character-specific matchups), doubles play (except I’m not so sure about this one since it’s just so out there, by far the least simple thing to get a single definitive grasp on imo), and I think that’s enough for now :p

When it comes to things outside of the game, definitely unifying the community more as a whole and getting more publicity for Smash to increase tournament attendance and hold bigger nationals and sponsorships for international tournaments (part of which will definitely require significant cooperation between the BBR and TOs). You might have noticed that a lot of the things I want to see involve players not in the BBR and having a strong connection between the BBR and these high-level players to get multiple opinions on things like matchups and stages that aren’t so concretely defined yet in an attempt to see if they can be… Basically, connection to the community is vital because the more viewpoints you have the less biased you are. The BBR can’t let everyone in, and therefore it’s unlikely that the BBR will know everything 100%. This is why it’s important in my eyes to have members that can communicate with their communities to gather information and prevent bias from altering the facts/general consensus when reporting back to the BBR to discuss it further.

7. Finally, if you haven't already, please link to posts of any contributions you have made in the past; what do you feel you would bring to the Brawl Back Room?

Contrary to what some may think, I don’t often write out gigantic posts (they take me forever because I don't want to post anything without making it as perfect as possible... not fun .____.)… most of what I do is small and not so link-worthy. But you can rest assured that whenever I have information to share, or an idea I want feedback on, or a question that I can’t find the answer to, there will be a post or chat about it with another smasher coming up right away. And of course, whenever someone asks a question that I know the answer to, I throw in my input right away :p

I have always been active in matchup discussions, because I feel it’s the best way for me and others to learn about matchups that we don’t have the good fortune of encountering often in our region. Pulling up all the examples of me contributing to matchup discussions would be a horribly time-consuming task, but I have been involved in almost every single discussion involving a matchup with Wolf (most recently in the Lucario IRC discussion, I think I was the only Wolf to show up… :(). In these discussions I provide all the information I know as well as ask some questions of the other character mains in order to better evaluate the theorycraft element of the matchup, as well as just to increase my understanding of the other character in general. I’ve recently created a new Wolf Matchup thread, but it still needs some work since I’ve been really busy as of late… No excuses though. Here’s the new Wolf matchup index thread.

My most recent contribution is going to eventually turn into a “Why Wolf is amazing on these stages” kind of thing, but as for now it only involves Jungle Japes and Norfair. Once I get recording stuff (hopefully for the holidays *crosses fingers*) there will DEFINITELY be videos since I’ve been waiting to show people all the cool things Wolf can do on a variety of stages. Anyways, here it is: Wolf’s Best CP Stages

Besides that, I wrote… a LOT… about Wolf in the BBR character discussion. It could have been more concise I’m sure, since I’m never too comfortable with being to-the-point for some reason, but plenty of good information there that nobody else took the time to spell out. Did I mention that I responded to every single post made by the BBR in that thread so far? Yeah… I do that, when I’m trying to get a point across I won’t let a single question slip by.

I have started up many projects before, but most of them are now either outdated or dropped because of lack of participation from others and lack of time/ability to test everything myself. These threads include, but are not limited to:

The Wolf Back Room Guide (I wrote more or less all of the move descriptions, but it’s really out of date now :x)
Wolf combo thread (dropped due to me not being able to test everything alone due to having no testing partner, as well as limited input from others)
Wolf zoning thread (dropped due to lack of much participation from the other side and I felt I wasn’t knowledgeable enough at the time to run it tbqh, just couldn’t organize things well enough :x)
Wolf’s ledge options (stickied in the Wolf directorythat I manage, really overdue for an update with frame data and everything… as is the directory thread… :urg:)

As for what I would bring to the BBR, first and foremost would be knowledge about Wolf… I personally believe that there should be at least one person per character in the BBR that has extensive knowledge over their main, and as I have said and shown before in this application I am extremely knowledgeable about Wolf, communicate frequently with other Wolf mains, and am a competent player. This is especially important for characters lower on the tier list, because when your character isn’t as popular, knowledge tends to be divided between the players and everyone has their own little tips and tricks to offer since no true best way to play or handle a matchup has been well-defined.

After that, I think the most notable things I’d bring are a positive public image since I’m always around to answer questions and relay information as well as cutting down on pre-existing biases (ex. the 08 mentality) by asking for clear justification on everything that is not borderline obvious and bringing up counterpoints to make sure that sound conclusions are reached. The reason I was recommended as a moderator in the first place was because I had over double the amount of posts in the old Q&A thread than the next highest poster (with the vast majority of my post being answers) and was very kind and friendly with all other posters, and I assure you neither of those traits have gone (or ever will go) anywhere. You have my word that if accepted I will be an excellent contributing member and representative of the BBR, and if I am not I will continue to be an excellent contributing member and representative of SWF.

Thank you for the invitation to apply, and best of luck with accepting new members :)
