Well, I can either come to this or go to Wintersmash... I'm leaning towards going to this. Gonna look at flights and stuff. Who's interested in housing me for the weekend?
Why is it one or the other? Why can't it be both?

How does an amateur bracket work exactly? Sorry I'm a noob

:phone:
*do pools*

*top half in bracket*

*bottom half in a separate bracket*

that way, people can keep playing after pools, irregardless of how good/bad they are. better for promoting lower level players to stay interested and keep playing.

if the event goes for two full days, i really dont see why we wouldnt have enough time.

no Attila not "irregardless"
just regardless
ok

Does that mean If i lose in pools I go to Amateur bracket? As in like...
Can anyone get into it, or if there are good players who simply lose in Pools, then they dont get to go to ammateur or normal bracket? Or are you relying on no "upsets" to have a fair ammateur bracket?

suppose id expect no huge upsets.

like, i wouldnt expect top 4 in melbourne to not make top 16.

i think thats pretty reasonable.

alternatively, top 3/4 could go to bracket, with the bottom quarter going to amateur bracket. depends on how many people show.

also, amatuer bracket will most likely have no pot. often in larger (busier) tournaments, they are only single elimination also, so time isnt an issue.

Sydney's amateur brackets work differently. We have a double elimination bracket without the people who would be seeded high in a normal bracket. (ie, PR members, those that have won severel amateur brackets). Those people in the amateur bracket that place top four then get seeded into the normal bracket. You could increase this number for larger turnouts to top 6 or 8.
Adding pools to this could be done a few ways.
You can start with pools of everyone where top ~40% of players get seeded into a championship bracket and the rest into an amateur bracket. From the amateur bracket the top players get seeding into the championship bracket so that there is about the top 50% of players in the champ bracket.

For example. 30 players would mean 6 pools of five, top 2 get seeding into champ bracket and the other 18 players get seeded in an amateur bracket. Top 2-4 amateur players then get seeding into champ bracket for a total of 14-16 players.

I'm sure it will be quite easy to organise once we can get details on which players are attending.

I really like that way Gords. Seeding the top 10 or so players is a sinch, it's placing the rest into the bracket that is always a bit tricky.
The method you outlined would erase that.

I am willing to run a project M side-tournament if:
a) TO/events organisers agree to it
b) we can get 2 fully functioning units (new version) for tourney play

get at me fellas

Did Project M get some huge update within the last month that made it not ****?

Game feels extremely clunky, rough and weirdly also floaty, but the main problem was that there is so little knockback on everything that everyone except MK lasts at least 200%, you thought Snake didn't die before? I got him to 300%+ before he got knocked off of the screen.

Well MK isn't in the current version of Project M so it's definitely the old one you're talking about Tak which, yes, was ****ing trash and should never be played by anyone.

The new Project M is ****ing incredible.

Lucas is like top tier, dgrab > dacus lol, and double jump cancel is optional :o

Project m would be cool to try out, but might take some time to get used to wavedashing, is l-cancelling required or is it auto cancelled?

So I'm pretty keen to come down on a Wednesday or something so I can catch up with people and have fun doing stuff like going to the casino etc.

If anyone is willing to house me that would be awesome but I'm keen to share a hotel room with people as well :)

Played the most recent revision of project m. It felt lke a brawl or peach players dream.

aka ****

Guess that explains the mis-guided love.

i honestly find it hard to understand why some of you guys really don't like it. to me, it felt like a melee player's dream (or what they wanted brawl to be) more than anything else.

p.s peach is no good as a fighter in both brawl & project m.

Project M is the most refined smash game ever and is in my opinion the best. So far I have yet to see a character that is not viable in that game. The changes they made to some of the characters in order to balance matchups and the roster are actually really clever.
