What do you guys think of a challenge thread?

Hey guys I was thinking of setting up a challenge thread for Link dittos and keep track of everybody's records for these wifi matches. What do you guys think? Here is what i had in mind for the format:

Setup: Get a match started
1. PlayerA posts a challenge "Anyone wanna fight?" or call someone specific out, whatever
2. PlayerB accepts challenge "PlayerA lets brawl"
3. PlayerA accepts or rejects playerB "Ok. i added you"/"No thanks playerB"
*After this try keeping all follow up setup restricted to PMs. You might
want to set a time.

Match: Here are the rules (lets keep it simple)
1. Set is best 3 of 5
2. Lag testing- Decide if the lag is acceptable. You may bail on the match
until a life is lost by either player. Once one player dies the match
is "official". Quitting after this means you forfiets the match and will count as a loss.
3. Stages- Start with Battlefield, Final Destination, Smashville or Yoshi's Island (brawl).
After that first match you can also choose Castle Siege, Delfino, Halberd,
Lylat Cruise, Pokemon Stadium 1, Corneria, Rainbow Cruise, and Norfair.
Since these are ditto matches I don't think we need stage counterpicking.
No stage can be picked more than once.
4. Timer - I don't think we need one
5. Lives - 3
6. Items - off

Result:
1. Any player can disclose results.
2. Give these details - Player smashboards names, score, connection
[use first letter in parenthesis i.e. Green is (G); Red is (R); etc.)
3. Format - example...PlayerA defeats PlayerB, 3-1, (G)

I decided to include connection color to limit the amount of "lag"
mentions. To check connection just check your friend list after the match.

Again, I'd keep track of everyone's records and if it's not to time consuming,
i'll also include the details under their names.

If there's enough interest I'll get this up and running. So, your thoughts?

I would be game but not for 5 lives, I never play with that much stock, the game gets dragged out and both players start sand bagging just to get the game over with. I think the preferred amount of lives is 3, thats what I always play with.

If Nintendo had a decent Wifi system I'd consider it. As of right now I cant play competitively online. Maybe it's just me, but I just cant adapt to ever changing lag.

7 min time limit fool, i don't need some scrub link spamming 10 mins of my life away kthx lol

it seems like a good idea....but the 2 things i see wrong are

1. its wifi, gg
2. i'm pretty sure i'm not going to watch this thread like a hawk, therefore i'll probably miss like 80% of the challenges ppl make lol...

Plus 3/4s of the thread will be challenges to Arkive, so he'll never be able to get around to all of them, and after a long day of matches, he'll get tired and lose, and the scrub Link will just keep posting all over the boards that he beat Arkive =P

Link is the absolute worst character on wifi so link players don't play it very much >=[
Wifi is just about all I play actually. Mostly 'cause I'm located in a town where smash virtually doesn't exist.

You just have to ajust to the lag. I played sunday for the first time in a month and ill admit it didnt feel natural ( the other player didnt play in like 2 btw). We both screwed up at times but in dew time we will be back at the online Banned levels no matter what the connection is.

Well I guess we shouldn't take a wifi challenge thread too seriously. We all know Wifi has lag and that it doesn't really translate to live matches. Still it'd be fun to see who's good at Wifi. Also I bet if you did compete you would probably have the best record anyway (but yeah with a few lame lag losses sprinkled in).

I wanted to avoid a time limit just cause i didn't want to deal with sudden death confusion, but if enough people want it I'll include it (Sudden Death doesn't count, whoever has more lives/least percentage wins). Also this will be a "best of Wifi" topic so the point of this thread will actually be to see who is good at Wifi, not real life.

Plus 3/4s of the thread will be challenges to Arkive, so he'll never be able to get around to all of them, and after a long day of matches, he'll get tired and lose, and the scrub Link will just keep posting all over the boards that he beat Arkive =P
Great point, I think I'll change the rules so that no specific person should be challenged. Players can post a challenge to which anyone can reply - though I guess the player can request a limit on how far an opponent can be from them. He can then accept or deny who ever accepts challenge.

Link is the absolute worst character on wifi so link players don't play it very much >=[
This wouldn't matter since everyone would be using link and the point of the thread is being good at Wifi, not real life.

i'm not sure why you would want to be good at wifi since it proves nothing

There are definitely smashers in your area. You're just not looking hard enough!
this is coming from a canadian. there are canadian smashers?! lolwut
i don't feel like playing on wifi so any americans wanna come over to my igloo and we'll smash? hahahhh

WiFi fails, so this idea kind of fails.

Aren't you the guy with some Wifi Link tournament?

I have smashers in my area that i play, but this still seems like a fun thing to do. In any case, nobody is forced to play.

Reasons you might not want to:
~You hate Wifi.
~You don't like your record posted.
~You take things too seriously.

Again, this is only for ****s and giggles, a lot of people don't mind Wifi games, but if you do just don't challenge anyone.

I liked this idea.

My Brawl FC is: 2664-2661-2145, I might appear by the name Jona, My nick names overall are Jink, Jinken, Jink5, JinkOfWar, Jona... And for sharing informative and/or fun 3-min videos here's My Wii#: 1073-2437-5559-7781

I will post Characters Used, Stages Played, Brawl Record (win/lose), Best Outcome (remaining stocks and % of the winner) and Connection Status (how good/bad the lag was in that match).

I got a question about the use of Time Limit, whatever is decide I'll post it too.

If the connection results on a UNPLAYABLE high level of LAG, I'll remove and notify that player here, until they/me get better connection.

I have 3MB Wireless connection speed.

My Schedule is: Sunday to Friday from 9pm to 11pm, and Saturday from 8pm till you get enough of me.

If I'm not there, anyone that wishes to play can call me at 787-396-4002 (When I pick up, you say: "SOOAW!" so I'll know is for a challenge), I'll probably be playing SoulCalibur4 (My PSN is JinkOfWar) or Tekken5DR (My PSN is Jink555) too at those hours.

I've already have the following in my friend list:

AmigoOne
Aurashade
LinkSpecialist
Legan
Terywj
Deva
Izaw
lonewolf
4Serial
VanHero
Swordplay
Radio
Hyrus
Xyro77

I'll later add:

ArkiveZero
Ray_Kalm
NintenJoe
marsulas

I might as well. :/ My Link is a bit rusty (DARN (censors made it look like "f" you melee) YOU MELEE!) so blah. I'll add you Jink. Nice set of info you got there. Oh and that sig is awesome :D

Sounds interesting.
I'm a terrible Link, but I'd love to participate and get a bit better. Anyone looking for an easy win can go ahead and send me a challenge. :3

Cool!!, I really hope things work out well for everyone.

Listen, I'll develop an Easy-to-read and Easy-to-post score system so everyone can use it. I'll explain it here first, then I'll make a thread just for score posting, I'll explain the rules here too before I open it.

It will consist on everyone having ONE post, just ONE post for each player to EDIT/UPDATE their daily score whenever an event takes place using the basic system I'll provide very soon.

But I'm announcing it before posting to see if you think is a good idea. ;)

Also, about the 64-friend list limit, I know is kind of rare but if my list (or anyone's list) gets full and there are still new challenges coming up, I'll (you should) delete the least played on the list and notify it on my score post as a Hold Up Brawlers "HUB".

Blu link: Thanks I'll add you too very soon.

And
theshortgamer, Wafflez too.

And everyone, remember that the phone call password for Brawling is "SOOAW!" like the song in the Izaw video.

Just for fun :chuckle:

Jink, that's an awesome idea. :D I can't play right now but I'll add you and play you some other time. As for my Score post, I'll make that under this one. (DOUBLE POST OMG. Crud, didn't expect that) Maybe I'll wait :/

lmao don't feel bad about deleting a bunch of random people, i played on gamebattles and AiB and the list fills up every day and you just have to make room. I think Link players need a reliable chat. we should just all hang around AiB. lol link needs better rep there

i'm getting close to done with SWF, stupid 1 line infractions, wtf is that noise?

AiB is like better in like every way, plus they haven't sold out (MLG, gg get wrecked)

Your talking about games online right? Aib might be better for online play, but their forums are nowhere close to Smash boards.

I like AiB for their good ladder (as far as ladders go, i like it much better than mlg's gamebattles.. but i still find competitive online to be a joke) and they have nice chat. SWF's forum is definitely a lot better than AiB's though. I dunno what's so bad about being sold out to MLG, it could increase the brawler numbers, then they'll realize brawl isn't their game and there's a chance it'll bring in melee players and i'm all for that. Don't leave us Arkive =[ Legan's already out for now too

Well this thread seems to have sidetracked, plus this jink character seems to be hijacking my thread and idea.....i think.

Anyway, this topic seems to have served its purpose. Most people seem to like the idea so i will set up the challenge thread. I'll also incorporate the following suggestions:
-There will be a 7 min time limit.
-Challenges cannot be directed at anyone specifically, instead they will be open to anyone.
acceptable challenge: "Anyone on the westcoast/US/anywhere want to brawl?"
NOT acceptable: "Yo, Deva I challenge you!"

If anything else comes up i'll change it then.

 What???, are you serious?, how old are you kid? :ohwell:

I was just trying to help, since I think this is the best idea in this forum and is not even yours, it was the Green Lesbo that started this.

Look I'm developing an easy to read and easy to post system for everyone to have their records and fun, :ohwell:

I wasn't trying to STEAL a "no-ones-idea", in fact I can even PM you my system so that you post it on your behalf, I don't give a dam about getting credited for X bull****, I just want to play, have a good time, and get better at it while others do too, because that's what gives life to fighting games, Leagues.

@Ich bin Awesome: how about writing "lock request" in your title? and jink is just a nice guy that seems to have much ideas to write down for everyone.

I will edit this post if I want anything else said.

EDIT
I don't want to lock this thread as I am using it as a discussion area to improve my other thread "King of Wifi."
Ok then. I just thought that this thread has served its purpose. hopefully people will understand that its here they should post complaints and suggestions for improvments...

@jink: editing posts is a good idea...
