Smash World Forums presents a new Mario Kart Wii event that will last all year long- SWF Time Trial Rankings! The concept is simple- each week I will randomly roll some dice to decide what track competitors will be racing. The player with the best total time and the player will the best individual lap time will be recorded as the fastest player!

I will be deciding the tracks by rolling a d8 (dice with eight sides) and a d4 [dice with four sides]. The d8 will choose the cup we play on, and the d4 will choose the track. A picture below for those who don't get it. If this was what I rolled for the week, we would be playing on N64 Bowser Castle.



That is the simple version- anyone who knows me knows that I like things to be complex and competitive. Thus, I will be awarding points to the top four times for each course, as well as points for the best lap time. Here is how the breakdown will go:​

1st Place - 10 points
2nd Place - 7 points
3rd Place - 4 points
4th Place - 1 point
Best Lap - 3 points

I will keep track of the points during the event and at the end of 32 weeks, I'm hoping to have a small prize to award the player with the most points (I will not announce it yet).

There is yet another way to score points though! Let's say that Jimmy has the best score on Luigi Circuit with a time of 1:19.419, and two weeks later Tommy beats his score with a time of 1.18.422. Tommy will be awarded three points for tackling his time. You may only receive points for being a score [it can't be your own] once. Anyone then has the chance to try beating the new time. Players may also do this with the best lap time, but they will only be awarded two points.

With this out the way, here are the rules for the event:​

  • You may either post a picture of your time or trust that the Nintendo WiFi Connection will update your score on the Mario Kart Wii Channel, which I will check after each week concludes. It is recommended and preferred that you take a picture of your time, but I understand if you cannot.
  • In order to compete for best lap, you must have some picture proof of your lap time, as it is not recorded on the Mario Kart Wii channel.
  • Each course's time will end on a Sunday at 4:00 AM EST (midnight Pacific).
  • You may post your picture [or tell everyone of your record inthe MKWii Channel] in the thread if you wish, showing your time, but you MUST PM me your picture/notice or it will not count, even if it's posted in the thread, by the time limit.
  • If you already feel like you hold your record for the fastest time in a certain course, you do not have to beat it again, but you MUST PM me your time, even if you scored it a year ago. For example, if Tommy is on my friends and had the fastest time for Peach Beach, but he did not PM and "enter his time" into the competition, he will not score points for the round.
  • You can submit as many times as you want per week.

I hope that none of these rules confuse anyone. If they do, ask any questions you wish in the thread or through a PM. Remember, this thread can be very active, so PMs are the most sure way for me to respond to your question without it being lost in the flood.

With the 3-point rewards for beating a time, does that mean that if I set a time, and Box beat it, he would be rewarded 3 points; and if I beat his time again I'd be rewarded 3 points, and so on?

Yes, it does.

If I feel like this gives some players too crazy a lead, or that players start cheating just to boost their own points, I will limit it to only a point or two.

Okay, I doubt anyone in this thread would, but two people could team up and set slower times to purposely allow the other to win, and repeat. Again, kinda doubt anyone would bother, but you never know.

I personally think you should just give points to the overall winners at the end of each round, but that's just me.

I feel like the +3 would get a bit out of hand and be a huge nerf to people like me who can only get on once or twice a week.

And yes! SNES Mario Circuit is one of my best courses. =)

Send your times in a PM to Sariku, and picture or video is fine as long as it is legible. Last resort would be MK Channel, but that is not very reliable :p

Upload to YouTube, or the MKWii channel? Either one works, but whatever your time is on the MKWii channel is when I go to check it on Sunday afternoon ONLY counts if it's the same time you sent me in a PM.

If it's on YouTube, I can find your score out myself.

@Z'z: You PM them to me. Also.

Would people prefer it if I limited you guys to "beating a score" just once? That way you can only get a total of three extra points for beating your score?

By the way, Sariku, for the best lap time, does it have to a split? As in it was so be part of a the 3 lap time trial? Or the 3 shroom lap, which means you're going to the fastest lap in general.

For the fastest lap, you do not have to go for it at the same time as your best score. So yes, you can go for the fastest lap solely using three mushrooms. Just make sure you finish the race and you have your picture of the best lap.

By the way, to everyone who doesn't know, you can see all of your own personal rankings in game. You don't have to rush to get a picture after the time trial is over.

I don't think I'm going to be able to beat 1:21 on SNES MC3, the best I've gotten on that is like 1:24 :urg:

Using Daisy / Mach Bike, gets better cornering than Funky ;D

I didn't really try for very long, so I think I can hit 1:21 at least. I'll send my 1:22 time to you tomorrow anyway though.

First thing I need to set a FLAP time tomorrow though.
