This sucks.

Though you can't blame Nintendo too much. Logically, this is something they must do, both to protect their business and for the sake of stakeholders etc.

The least they could do is announce before hand that an update is coming.

(If they do, then ignore the fool)

I don't think you have to turn off WC24 unless you want to be super safe. Nintendo still cannot automatically update your Wii, they still have to send your Wii that message that tells you there's an update and whether or not you'd like to update.

Thankfully, I'll never update my Wii.

Thanks for that, I was getting really worried my Wii is gonna automatically update itself today since I noticed the blue light glowing when I left the house this morning. >_<

Nevertheless, I'm turining Wii24 Off. @_@

Unbelievable. No matter where and when you got it, from launch day or today, if you update to 4.2, you essentially get a boot2v4 Wii that CANNOT be downgraded or will brick your Wii. Every Wii is now an LU64+.
Wow so good luck to any newbie wii hackers out there.

Everyone else hit the trenches!

I have spread the word to the Japanese.
We should have this sticked forever, saying "NEVER UPDATE YOUR WII THROUGH NINTENDO IF YOU USE HOMEBREW"

while we're on the topic of homebrew, what are the differences between gecko 1.9.1 and 1.9.2? Would someone who only uses homebrew for brawl+ (and presumably new games that would otherwise require an updated wii) have any reason to stay with the older one? I remember reading something somewhere that made me not want to update to 1.9.2, but i cant remember what it was... D: (i think it said something about discs being less efficient or something like that)

sooo at this point Nintendo is more interested on making patches rather than games for people to play. I mean, so many updates by now, and I'm willing to bet more than half of those patches are aimed towards hackers...

Well, Nintendo has always despised hacks and rightfully so. Though failing to do things like allowing us to watch movies on the wii(there's a homebrew app for this) makes me question how much effort they put in to please the consumer.

Wooooow.

Sure it's understandable I guess, but dang. That sucks. D: Good thing I use the usb loader! My disc slot can't read anything at all anymore, so if ever I want to play a new game, I'd have to go through the whole ISO rip dance, so anything that need be done to prevent autoupdating I can just toss into the process (if someone hasn't already done it, as in when I have to *cough* download the ISO 'cause I have nothing with which to rip it myself XD)

Wii sells better than the other game systems, so Nintendo doesn't have to care about pleasing the consumer D:

They will have to in the long term of things. I'm glad I'm not updating.

Wait, what was the point of this one anyway? What new feature did they add that think would warrant updating?

More like installing a DVD drive and then blocking it.

Well, I was going to update to get the new Internet Channel.

Otherwise, Nintendo just wants you to think they actually updated something, and make you all giddy.

I really hope we don't get any sad stories about how someone got killed off by the Ninty Effect. Because it'll make me sad.

Hey, you've got to be realistic. A company's gotta do what a company's gotta do. Its foolish to believe they won't protect their products by any means necesarry.

Look at Microsoft. Their mistakes with the original Xbox led to every person I know, not an exaggeration, modding it and playing nothing but burned games. The Xbox lost a bundle in software sales resulting in more and more exclusives shifting to the PS2. Nowadays Microsoft are software Nazis.

As for this latest update, is anyone really surprised? Really? Didn't everyone see this coming?

Lol, why would they do that?

"Hey hackers, we're releasing an update this week that'll remove your hacks! Please don't get prepared to find a way around it."

I think my wii is still 3.0/3.1?

:}

I've been so lazy...
Heh, same here. Dont think I've updated since 3.1'. Hell, still got Photo Channel 1.0

And guys, hate to be the party-pooper but don't link to sites that contain homebrew channel and/or other sites that allow you to hack the wii.

I got news channel, photo channel, weather channel, mii channel, homebrew channel and the game drive. Oh and the wii shop :3.
That's all I have. I keep seeing people with over 9000 channels >: (

Why doesn't Nintendo realize that HBC and such is used for much more than piracy -_-
Because it still involves piracy which is a crime.

Metroid Prime 3 Preview Chanel ftw. Not to mention Nintendo channel, Mii contest Channel, Every Body Votes Channel...

Aw hell, hope I can still use the vote channel, I liked that one.

This is true, but the thing is, most people I know that was using HBC and hacks were doing it for textures, music, and Brawl+/other Brawl iterations. Stuff that is pretty much like using a GameShark (just a really good GameShark).

I can understand blocking WADs and stuff like that, it's just a shame that it means trying to tear down the Brawl modding community.

Reading the same thread, I'm hoping they make a legal version of the wad-patch.

Preloader 0.3 released, looks like, and they came out with a hack to disable HAXX/DVDX deletions.

I'm making a nand dump them testing a wad install.

Gonna first install trucha signed IOSes using Dop IOS, install the new shop channel, make another nand dump, and then I will patch install the system menu wad and check out the results.

Eventually they'll get whatever IOS's needed to update all the channels without updating the system menu, I'm sure. At the very least they'll do it with the big channels like the Shop; can't be so sure about some of the more "pointless" channels like Mii contest or something though.

IOS70 is the backbone of 4.2. Without 70, you'll get a black screen.
Oh. So IOS70 gets installed with 4.2 but if you go to downgrade (aka remove IOS70) then you get bricked. Got it

What is the name of the app that allows for running games through gecko to avoid the updates inside the games?
