-Similarly, as an organizer, I want this to be the best tournament possible. If you think something could be better, tell me how. We'll go from there.
-Singles will consist of Swiss-style pools followed by a double-elimination bracket.
Preregistration:
You want to do this, and it's free.
May 24th will be the last day to preregister. I need time to make pools and get other people to look over them. Thanks.
I want to create pools prior to the event so that they can be as balanced as possible. This is not mandatory but it will make the event much more fun. Read the pools section for more information.
Here's how you MUST preregister. You will make a post in the following format:
[This is an example]

Just copy/ paste and fill in your info. I will then add these players to a list in this thread, so people can see who is attending. Thanks!
Rules:
KNOW THESE! I will hold every player responsible for knowing the rules. If you play a game on a stage you didn't know was banned, TOO BAD. No matches will be replayed due to ignorance of the rules.
Know the rules.

-Team attack on
-no items
-best 2/3, Winner's, Loser's, and Grand Finals are 3/5
-Bring your own controller
-advanced slob picks
-Stage striking for first pick (players may agree on a stage or random)

-Modified Dave's Stupid Rule: a player/ team may not pick a stage that he won on previously in the set

-Team Color Rule-If a team has Lucario on it, they get to be blue.
-Team ports will be 1221. R-P-S to decide if there is a disagreement.
-We'll call your match a few times. If you haven't show within 5, maybe 10 minutes, you lose.
No Excessive stalling. End infinites no later than 300%. The Infinite dimensional cape is banned.
HACKS:
Do not load Brawl through Homebrew unless you clear it with me first. The only hacks I will allow are custom music, infinite replays, and tags in replays. Nothing else unless you hear it from me first. Thanks.
STAGE STRIKING:
We will use STAGE STRIKING to start the set. NOT RANDOM (unless both players agree). Basically, Player A chooses one stage from the Starter list that he doesn't want to play. Player B picks a stage he doesn't want from the remaining list. Players A & B alternate until only one stage is left. This is the stage for the first match.

Counterpick:

Pool Info:
Pools will be run Swiss-style. Each match will be played the same as a bracket match, with the same rules applying. Look up the Swiss tournament system if you are not familiar with it. This is to save time but allow for decent bracket seeding. I'm looking at 8 players per pool, but interest will ultimately determine pool size. Only preregistered players will be placed into these pools. Either 32 or 48 players total will advance from these pools. I haven't decided yet, though time will be a factor.
Then, there will be a ninth pool with those who did not preregister. Only 2-4 players from the ninth pool will advance. These few players will either randomly fill in byes left in the bracket or be given the absolute lowest possible seed. This kind of seeding plus fewer advancing players is meant to encourage preregistration. I do not want to make it mandatory because I want this to be open to random locals who wouldn't preregister.
------------
Edit:
I don't think there will too many people at this who don't preregister, but if there are more than 16 (this number may change), than I'm considering running a double-elimination bracket. It'll have fewer rounds than Swiss and still allow me to get the top 2-4 from the non-preregistered.
------------
Why Swiss?? Well, it runs faster than a round robin. A pool of 8 players will require three rounds with 4 matches per round for a total of 12 matches. An 8 person round robin will require 28 matches. Basically, a little accuracy is sacrificed for a lot of speed. Each pool will be run by a person who is familiar with the process, so things should go well.
I will employ tiebreakers which look first at the head-to-head matchup, if it occurred and if there is only a two-way tie. If there is a three way tie or no head-to-head match, I will look at each player's opponents' match win %. Basically, if player A lost to better people than player B, then player A ranks ahead of player B. I am going to work on refining this more, so it should run smoothly.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I'm sure I forgot stuff (I usually do the first time through.), so please let me know. Also, feel free to ask questions and stuff.
