Did you click the readme steps. So your actually making the textures. Check to see what kinda it is. DO NOT FLATTEN THE IMAGE. It needs an alpha layer.

Image that does not end in +1 nor +2
When you save the image (with Save as...) you must select 32 bits/pixel when it prompts you for 'Targa options'.

Image that end in +1 or +2
Before saving you must give a palette to the image.

* Go to Image > Mode > Indexed Color.
* Be sure to uncheck the 'Transparency' box.

You can usually use 256 colors, but some images need a smaller palette (you will know it when you go to the next step).

* In the 'Palette' box select: Local (Perceptual) and type a small number.

Every image
Be sure to replace the old image. NEVER create a new one.
You can't change its size.

Image that end in +2 (optional)
These images can contain transparency. Paint with magenta (RGB: 255 0 255) every part you want to make transparent.
(examples: Ike's and Snake's hair, Donkey Kong's fur...)
This is stolen from his readme steps. I sometime shave issues with that. Did you make sure to follow these steps??

Gimp Users don't need to worry about this, can't say the same for photoshop.

Okay, simply put, indexed textures cannot have any "alpha" in them, make sure there are no alpha channels when indexing.

You can usually use 256 colors, but some images need a smaller palette (you will know it when you go to the next step).

When you run Step 2 create, you'll see the maximum colors in the pallete of the indexed texture you're adding, make sure you set the maximum to the same as in Step 2.

* In the 'Palette' box select: Local (Perceptual) and type a small number.

Again, Gimp users need not worry about this, photoshop however I cannot vouch for.
To index textures go to Image>Mode>Indexed, it'll be RGB by default.

Every image
Be sure to replace the old image. NEVER create a new one.
You can't change its size.

Click "Save" instead of "Save As".
You cannot change the size.

Pretty self explanatory, if you want a texture which ends with +2 to be transparent, the just fill it in with Magenta. Maximum Red and Maximum Blue, no Green for those who do not know how to make the color.

(examples: Ike's and Snake's hair, Donkey Kong's fur...)
Listed Examples of textures that end with +2.

Hope that helped.

Yeah, I've done all of that, saving different copies with and without transparency, colored, magentafied, 64-color index, 32-bit index, grayed out, and even an untouched copy.

NONE OF THEM WORK. Period.

I'm using GIMP, which just might be the problem -________-

I'm using Gimp, and I'm doing just fine now.
Which version do you have?

This is me attempting to use step2_create on an unchanged FitWario06.pac:
Code:
*** Adding palette textures ***

04Wario_EyeIris

 (maximum colors allowed: 64)
(if your image has a bigger palette, it will corrupt the texture)

Do you want to include this texture (yes=y, no=otherwise) ->
Typing "y" and hitting Enter yields this result:
Code:
TCSetPalettes: file C:\USERS\JAMESON SIELI\DOCUMENTS\TEXTURE STUFFZ\ASH\04WARIO
_EYEIRIS\TEX#00_09+2.TGA has no palette

total alloc: 35164
total freed: 35164
press <enter> to quit
After that, it just goes through the list of other texture parts, asking me if I want to include them; no errors, no ifs, ands, or buts...

This is after adding a 64-color index:

Code:
*** Adding palette textures ***

04Wario_EyeIris

 (maximum colors allowed: 64)
(if your image has a bigger palette, it will corrupt the texture)

Do you want to include this texture (yes=y, no=otherwise) ->
Typing "y" and hitting Enter yields this result:
Code:
total alloc: 59608
total freed: 59608
created tpl 04.tpl

Texture 04.TEX0
Palette: 04.PLT0
Palette detected.
Start: 20
End: 0

This application has requested the Runtime to terminate in an unusual way.
Please contact the application's support team for more information.
Any ideas?

@knuxrouge: I'm using GIMP 2.4, I think...What are YOU using?

EDIT:: Holy crap....there's a GIMP 2.6.6? O__O;

I think I'm using 2.4 as well.
I had the exact same issue with my Marth texture.
I'd hate to say it, but re-extract it and try again.

I successfully made a great looking Fox texture, just make sure that you index the +s right and not to include any alpha layers.

Dude, I've extracted and re-extracted the things at least ten times...

Try doing whatever it is you did on 04Wario_EyeIris, and see if you can use step2_create.

Tell me if it works or not...

Because when I index the image, and remove the alpha layer, it gives me this bullcrap:

Code:
*** Adding palette textures ***

04Wario_EyeIris

 (maximum colors allowed: 64)
(if your image has a bigger palette, it will corrupt the texture)

Do you want to include this texture (yes=y, no=otherwise) -> y

End: 60

I just wanted to throw in and say that I've been having the exact same problem as IC3R; as evidenced by my post before:

So... yeah.

I FREAKING NEED HELP, GUYS.

This thing is NOT working for some characters, and I need to find out why.

Take Sonic, for instance (please)... when I try to run step2_create on it, I get the warning that says...

(maximum colors allowed: 16)
(if your image has a bigger palette, it will corrupt the texture)

If I hit Y, it says...

.../TEX00_08+2 HAS NO PALETTE

Press <enter> to quit.

Now, when I try to index the palette to 16 colors (image > mode > indexed > generate optimum palette 16 colors) and run step2_create, I get the following error:

UNEXPECTED ERROR: This texture has erroneous colors! Press any key to continue.

If I hit a key, the error repeats itself ad infinitum.

If I try to index it again, step2_create just crashes altogether.

I'm begging you guys, now. PLEASE HELP ME WITH THIS.

Well.....
I'll see what I can do.
Unfortunately I can do nothing until later on tonight. I'll test with Wario, then Sonic.
Know that if I get the same issue, my guess is as good as yours.

I understand. I just wish I knew what kept happening with this, and that the step2_create file would be updated with fixes for bugs like this.

Urgh. Alright, every time I run ash (step 1), the program crashes and causes explorer.exe to crash for a bit as well. I run Trend Micro and Spybot (thus TeaTimer.exe as well), which I think may be blocking it and causing explorer to hiccup. Anyone else run these and have the same issue? I've run step 1 several times before and it hasn't crashed anything until today.

EDIT: Looking back at the files, the .bat's for step 1 and step 2 are less than 2 KB. That flags me as something being off, but I'd like to confirm. What size are they supposed to be?

As I'm apparently horribly noobish when it comes to these things, I need a little push in the right direction. I've downloaded ASH, I HAVEN'T extracted anything from my Brawl disc (all of my textures are running off of Gecko OS), and I've downloaded all of the .tga files for default character textures separately.

I just finished editing the texture file in Photoshop, and now I'm absolutely lost..

Back, I tested Wario, and found the same problem.
I couldn't test Sonic, because Mega Upload is being a little *****.

I've concluded that when it finds the pallete and the "End" is zero, then it will crash.
What triggers the zero, I don't know.
My guess would be specific modifications, I made a "MadWorld" Fox texture (which is ridiculously easy) for Fox and I wanted his Headgear to be transparent (it does in fact end with +2), I covered the whole image with magenta, when extracting, then End was 0 and crashed, so I replaced it with my back up and just covered the specific gear with magenta, the End was 0 and it crashed, so I just did it normally, no transparency, and it went through.

I'd use the word complex, try asking the folks after kitty corp.
There's certainly something we don't know.

some things apparently can't be done in GIMP

so anyone getting the "erroneous colors" error needs to redo that edit in another program, like photoshop.

Ok, so I've continued looking into why ASH doesn't startup and causes explorer.exe to hiccup. So far, I've ruled out Trend Micro and Spybot (I cut off both of the programs and their respective processes and ASH still doesn't star). It's not any automatic updates to my computer either, since I just tried using system restore to go back to the last time it was working. I've tried downloading ASH again as well, and the new version didn't work either, so my files aren't corrupt. Anybody have any other ideas here? I'm starting to get really frustrated.

The Step 1 thing isn't extracting pictures from the PAC files.

It did the very first time I tried, and then never again.
