Sherman is reminding me of the young Ellie from Up for some reason. Just more nerdy. The hair looks so off.

Skyfall was awesome. Craig is unequivocally the best James Bond.

I thought it was awfully strange that
they are simultaneously implying a kind of reboot by having him only just now meet Moneypenny and showing that M is a man again, and a kind of chic revamping at the same time (i.e. Q saying they don't mess with "exploding pens" anymore.
Happy with this Moneypenny though. She's so hot

^major spoiler btw :report:

Haven't seen any of the old classics (started with Bronsen), so I couldn't tell you much about how this feels compared to other Bonds.

I'm going to rank this in the Daniel Craig saga behind Casino Royale. I still think that's the best of the three. One thing I'm a bit stumped about is how they seem to stray away from the Quantum Terrorist organization of the first two movies to focus on a new villain. Do they plan on bringing Quantum back for the next two (Craig is contracted for 2 more movies)?

Also, it was never implied if our villain in Skyfall was
the only one with the "list".

Second, I was sort of hoping the movie would have ended somewhere around the second to last action scene. Meaning,
when the council/M are attacked in the chambers. I think it would have been an interesting avenue to take if the media broke out about England being attacked, and that somehow playing a role in the plot as "repairing" MI6.

Honestly, I always saw Skyfall as a metaphor than a
"location". I mean really? You name a place Skyfall?
They could have done without it. I always saw the whole theme of the movie as the sky is falling (which you can argue it was).

"fiat justita ruat caelum" translate to "justice must be done, even if it means the sky falls"

^ why do you say he is?
Craig's portrayal is exactly how I think Bond should be portrayed. While not necessarily the fault of any actor (as the characterization is often determined by the script), I also feel that Craig's acting is just overtly the best. He carries this layer of bitterness which is hidden beneath poisons of drinking and bedding women. He's a complex character, and it really shows in the finale of Skyfall.

I could elaborate more, I guess, but I'm feeling a little lazy. Connery's Bond just lacked subtlety, in my opinion.

That's actually my exact sentiment toward Brosnan. Bond is supposed to be so super ****ing capable at everything, and Brosnan makes Bond's job look easiest. Brosnan is the closest to the exhaggeration of a man that I think Bond is supposed to be in the first place

They turned Brosnan into ****ing Rambo. It made no ****ing sense, and there was zero subtlety. How many ridiculous ****ing one-liners did Brosnan drop in Die Another Day alone?

He was a good actor, and I think he would have been taken more seriously with scripts that didn't suck total *** (Goldeneye was almost not awful), but his characterization of Bond was awful. Bond isn't supposed to be that over the top.

The Bonds who are closest to Flemming's original character are Craig and Dalton. That may be why I get this idea that Bond isn't supposed to be some douche bag who drops one-liners on everything and needs ridiculous gadgets (like an invisible car, a ring that breaks glass because how ****ing awesome is it to be able to break glass with a huge sound wave, an exploding pen, a car that turns invisible, a car that you can control with a Gamecube controller, Jesus ****ing Christ Brosnan's movies were ****ty) to get out of every problem. Remember all the gadgets in Dr. No? Or From Russia with Love? There weren't any, because those movies weren't ****ty.

Anyway, \rant, Brosnan's bond sucked because Bond isn't supposed to be Go-Go-Gadget Rambo.

haha, I love one-liners
I embraced Bond as an exaggeration. Otherwise spies are boring to me tbh. I'm also super tired of the whole stricken protagonist feel that Craig gives and that Batman has been in the spotlight so heavily with recently. Brosnan is my comfort zone with a character like that in a genre that, which in all honesty, I don't ask for much depth from anyway.

I don't like Bond as an exaggeration. That didn't happen until Moore's films. In that regard, I'd say Brosnan is a good fit for Bond, but I think Bond in the way Flemming characterized him is appropriate. When you embrace Bond as this over-the-top character with over-the-top gadgets and corny as **** one-liners, you get Die Another Day and Moonraker.

On the other hand, when you think of Bond in a way similar to how Flemming characterized him, you get From Russia with Love, Dr. No, Goldfinger, Casino Royale, Skyfall, and License to Kill. Good films (with some people not liking License to Kill, for no explicable reason).

I heard somewhere (here?) that Craig is on board for two more. Craig looks old already, I dunno what to expect with these next two

Yeah, I'm not saying you're not welcome to your opinion. Just that your opinion is wrong. <3

Yes, Craig is signed on for two more.

I'm not sure if they made Craig look intentionally look old for this movie to play off the whole "You're rusty and old" theme. This may have been just me, but prior to him
getting shot in the beginning
, he looked pretty young, but when he returns and they show that
scene of him in the shooting range,
you just see...that "old" to him.

Anyways, he's in great shape, and some Hollywood magic can make anyone look 20 years younger. I like Craig as Bond, so I really hope one of the movies tackles Quantum once in for all.

I thought the 'you're too old for this' part of Skyfall felt kinda shoehorned in. It's very popular these days with things like The Expendables and the latest Indiana Jones movie, but those guys are legit old. Daniel Craig is just 44. They had a point about him maybe being old as far as field agents go, but the movie was all over the place thematically and they should have cut that little sub-narrative I think.

I think the fact that he sustained a serious injury, combined with his age, was a good point to make. I don't think it was shoehorned at all.

so I finally got around to see Wreck it Ralph bc my younger cousins came for thanksgiving.

It was pretty good, but I can see why people here were complaining about the lack of real video game references (being a video game forum and all lol) but i liked it the way it was., soild entertainment for kids and adults. They probably did it that way to appeal to the wider audience while giving a little sample of references to please the smaller number of video game fanatics. They didn't advertise it as a movie for gamers, but as a movie for families

Imho, Miyazaki's best is Princess Mononoke. I think maybe I'd shift back and forth with Spirited Away depending on fickle mood changes lol but yeah. Howl's Moving Castle is also good

goddamn now I have to watch all of these

I like Satoshi Kon more than Miyazaki. Tokyo Godfathers is the best animated feature ive ever seen. Perfect Blue isnt far behind. Most Miyazaki movies lose my interest in the third act. My favorite is Kiki's Delivery Service.

so latest "man of steel" trailer is out

Kinda torn here. Seems to be taking itself too seriously. And adding a "teenage angst" angle.
How hard could life be for a freaking superhuman alien? To me Superman was supposed to be a little...campy.

Still gonna see it of course.

Most comic book characters are were campy.
People are into humanizing superheroes atm. Whaddaya gonna do

I do feel however that no amount of seriousness or depth is gonna make that bright red/blue jumpsuit any less obnoxious

Yessssssssss, Django Unchained was something else.

Tarantino has still got it!

Loved it, though it is unforgiving in its gruesomeness.

It's Tarantino's most violent movie, definitely. Some are even calling it "ultra-violent," which I think is supposed to be a pun. However, it consists of mostly just blood coming out of gunshots. Nothing in the range of The Passion that is super cringe-worthy.

Just saw Les Mis. It was not very good, but I suppose that's expected given the source-work; the musical just isn't very good. Sung-through musicals in general are ****ty, but this musical has some especially bad writing. Anne Hathaway's performance was mind blowingly awesome, though. And that blonde from Mean Girls has an exquisite singing voice.

Exactly how gruesome is Django? I'm not too big on gore but I'd hate to miss out on a movie that's getting such rave reviews.
It is not gorey exactly, its just very vicious and unrepentant in its violence. the mandingo fight scene had me squirming even though nothing in particular is shown.

fantastic movie, was a little too long and the end act could have been done in a more succinct way but flaws aside my favorite movie of the year

Django was so good. Tarantino comes through again. Best movie I've seen in a long time.
