Uh, LOL no, Amateur Bracket character usage still includes all of the players who were in pools. If Ripple counted Amateur Bracket in addition to everyone who entered the tournament, that means he entered all of the people who entered Amateur Bracket twice, which is wrong, of course.

amateur bracket is still the standard meta game and players are playing for money.

Although I can see why you would not count it.

you should just leave the breakdown for every character on the OP or something, so people will stop asking.

Idk if I'm correct about it when I say this because this me saying it from the outside?

But constantly updating the breakdown would be mad work to do. Right?

Updating it will be hard because I'd have to copy and paste players for each character separately. In other words, ~37 copy pastes every week. Not fun.

Kingtoon = Chris Lumbus I believe.

Not really surprised by the weight of secondaries for some characters.

I dunno. Link me to the tourney you've won and I'll see what's up.

Also I already fixed the Kingtoon/Chris Lumbus business.

Fox would probably be higher if WC reported their tourneys here :/
That's their own fault then. If the Fox main(s) over there want people to know how well Fox can actually do, they should record the results. Otherwise very few people from outside of WC will know about them. >_> Kinda hard to use what we don't know.

Keep in mind that, when I actually get around to interpreting the breakdowns of the data, I only intend to use the number of different players who placed in the money for a given character.

The money amounts are there just so you guys can get hyped or something, lol. I'm not exactly sure what I can do with that part of the data that I haven't already.

zelda breakdown plz

:troll:

suggestion to john#: maybe have a column comparing money inputted (ie number of entrants for each character * $10) to winnings?

A column for Winnings/(Entrants*10) would show that for every dollar put into playing a character, one will get on average $x out...between, say, $.90 and $1.10 is neutral/borderline, below that is weak/unviable and above is strong/viable

you could call it a viability index or something

I think he means this:

Take the amount of money mains put in to a tourney. So [# of mains in tourney]*[entry fee]. Then compare that to the amount of money those mains have won.

what mr. bramage said

mk calculation in excelese would be =d3/(b3*10)
and comes out to 1.719
so for every dollar mk mains put into pots they get $1.72 back

x>1.1 is considered a net gain to play this character on average
1.1>=x>=.9 is a net neutral
.9>x is a net loss

or you can use other numbers

I can't exactly do that. Keep in mind that tournament entry fees can vary. The most common examples are $5 and $10, but there are some tournaments that have entry fees of $3, and nationals tend to have really large entry fees, such as $15 or $20.

I could always use "total pot/total number of characters used" to get an "average entry fee," but that would only work if and only if everyone in the Smash community only used ONE character per tournament, which isn't the case.

There tends to be more $5 and $3 tournaments than there are 15 dollar nationals, so we're gonna want to go with $9 average entry, if I just had to ballpark guess it.

Okay, one at a time, here's Column F divided by (Column B * 9). The reason why column F is used is due to the fact there's no splitting involved with Ripple's data, so it's only appropriate I do the same with my data, so it matches up.

...And this is what the data looks like when Ally is removed from the equation. I keep saying he's an enormous outlier, so I may as well act on it.

With this, ICs seem to be doing better than MK, and PT is almost at equal footing... but ICs and PT aren't broken, are they...? I'm just going to attribute this oddity to "low usage = standardly deviated results" for now. We should keep an eye on them...

It's because Reflex is the only person who uses PT and he wins.

So they get more money than they should lol.

IC are rare and really hard to play against if you don't know how to so that would probably be a contributor to it.
Plus they take a lot more effort to learn than other characters, so players that are willing to use IC are likely players that spend a lot of time on smash in general, and are more likely to be high level players because of that.

/my thoughts.

Yeah, that's what I thought too. Maybe we'll start to see something a tad more conclusive when ICs are used 80 more times(bringing their # of uses to 200, which is the cutoff at which I believe we can start reliably interpreting this data).

Also, as I'm sure you've all noticed, I've made quite a few different kinds of data interpretation over the course of this thread. Just as a heads up, I intend to do a MASSIVE presentation of data at the end of June, providing a ****LOAD amount of different data for ya'll to interpret in any way you choose. I'll also do one at the end of December, and if I'm still continuing the project, I'll consistently continue doing it on a half-year basis.

dont just use an arbitrary 9 (just like you shouldnt use an arbitrary 10 i guess)
add up total entry fees and divide by total number of entrants to get average entry fee per person, no?

=F2/(D2*(D$41/B$41))

Then again that is really close to 9 so the chart you presented stands

but by using the F column you're just making Ally more of an outlier because it's like every character he uses has their own Ally making money...if he won a tourney using 3 separate characters, you're making an outlier because now youre adding a total of more than the entire pot of the tourney just off one person

EDIT: oh tru, ripple doesnt split
why doesnt he split?

Even if F column makes Ally more of an outlier, it's the column that's supposed to be used in tandem with Ripple's info. I could make a case for using H column, but definitely not D column.

And regardless of column used, I could simply just NOT use an arbitrary entry fee. Just do F or H column divided by B column and call it a day.

And Iunno why Ripple doesn't split. Ask him.
