He went so hard on that song.

all the new rap that is out is kinda lame in my opinion. but my music preference is on the other side of the music world. if i listen to rap, it would have to be old NWA, Eazy E, or the gorillaz has some good stuff too.

Which is why I only listen to mixtapes. Mainstream music flops. Mixtapes and old school rhymes are the best out there.

When Nas said hip-hop is dead. He ment it. All these wack *** new artist just effed it up. Drake is the only new rapper out there that is shweet,.

ALSO, for some good LULZ, check out MTV's "hottest emcees of 2009" list:

10. Raekwon (he deserves to be here)
9. 50 cent (lol...)
8. Fabulous (he's got some good flows)
7. Young Jeezy (he's also got flows, and beats too)
6. Gucci Mane (LOL)
5. Rick Ross (LOL WTF EVEN HIGHER THAN GUCCI MANE LOLOLO)
4. Kanye West (deserves it)
3. Drake (definitely not top 3)
2. Lil Wayne (definitely not top 3)
1. Jay-Z (definitely not number 1)

and thats just my two cents. my top, and probably all of your guys' would be completely different. haha

Leave it up to MTV and uneducated teenagers to ruin rap's image and reputation!

Out of those 10 rappers, only Raekwon and Drake deserve to be on it.

But you know, typical mainstream, commercialized media...

Kanye kinda deserves it, if only for his older stuff. But only at like #9/10 or something. Or as an honorable mention.
If that's the case, Jay-Z's Reasonable Doubt and In my Lifetime, Vol 1. Both of those albums were amazing and very good towards the rap game, not to mention Takeover on the Blueprint.

Raekwon deserves higher on that list, Wayne, Drake need to get off.

Update on what I've been listening to, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gO9NhPPwnCI.

^^^So good to bump this in the car where everyone else is playing Wayne they ride, sooo good.

Actually, Young Jeezy and Jay-Z possibly deserve it, and it's not surprising to see Jay-Z as number 1, with all his top-selling albums and new songs he's produced and sold.

But the actual rankings are up for debate, and Lil Wayne, Gucci Mane and Rick Ross are LOL.

Best rapper alive is Nicki Minaj.

Get at meh!

Gay-Z stole his most of his rhymes. One of his albums mainly has lyrics from other artists from Biggie, Pac, Snoop, Hot Boys (YEAH THAT OLD), Nas, and many more.

Jay-Z really stole rhymes?

I know Nas and him had beef before, but I never knew it was for that.

Anyways, he still contributes a lot to the mainstream music media, so regardless of he actually steals, he'll always be worshipped as a God in the industry.

And isn't he the richest rapper alive? $24 million+ or something?

This thread needs more Eminem, Immortal Technique, and O.G.C.!

Jay-Z did not steal any rhymes. ALMOST EVERY RAPPER "borrows" lines from other rappers. it's happened for a long time, and it'll continue happening.

if you think simply using another emcee's line is stealing, then i've caught talib "stealing", i've caught method man "stealing", i've caught krs-one "stealing."

when you take a line from a WELL KNOWN song, and use it, it's not stealing, it's paying homage.

That list was titled "hottest of 2009" so i'm assuming it was only for those who have made a big commercial impact this year, though using that criteria they still managed to screw it up. Rick Ross, Raekwon, and 50 cent have not had a big a presence on the scene this year. I also have an issue with the order of the rest of the list. But eh, mtv doesn't know **** about hip-hop anyways so i'm not surprised.

Now if we were talking about a list of top 10 emcees of all time, the list with the exception of maybe two(Kanye, Jay) would be completely different.

wait, that's mtv's all time list?!

wow... not bad, mtv. not bad at all.

i mean jay doesn't deserve the number one spot, and i personally don't think pac and biggie should get 2nd and 3rd, but the top 3 is probably something no one would ever agree on, so i guess they just wanted as little dispute as possible.

HERE'S MY TOP FIVE SIX SEVEN *DUN DUN DUN*

you guys have no idea how much thought i've put into this list, my "favorite emcees ever" list is something i think about at least weekly lol.

anyways,

(IN NO PARTICULAR ORDER, that would be waaay too hard)

Big L
Andre 3000
Masta Ace
Ludacris
Aceyalone
Mos Def
Eminem

what's your guys' top list look like?

Wow, that's not too bad. Some stuff I disagree with (Eminem, Tupac above Biggie, Jay-Z number one) and I would have expected Kanye to make it on here. Praise for Big Daddy Kane making it on there. I love Radio, my favorite thing LL Cool J has ever done.

Beastie Boys started out as a punk band, and by listening to Ill Communication, little has changed.
