This helped. Turned out I wasn't pressing b soon enough. Apparently there's a position where you can shine without crouching that's where I need to hit b to not fall through.

Brawl made the melee community's average skill level a lot higher. Before brawl came out I would win 1 to 2 tournament matches. After brawl came out, I would go to tournaments and win 0 matches. It really seems like most of the people who weren't that good at melee, quit playing once brawl...

Probably, but the question is would they stand out more than some characters on currently legal counterpicks such as jiggs/peach on mute city, or fox on green greens?

I'm not claiming that every, or even most of that stage list is ideal, or even close it, but I do think the currently banned stages should be reevaluted for low tier tournaments and decided on a case by case basis.

Many of the stages that were banned for normal melee were banned due to broken tactics by fox, or other high tiers. Since low tier tournaments do not allow these characters the stage selection needs to be revisited. I'm not going to get into what should be neutral and what should be...

Do other games have something similar to crouch canceling? I think cc adds depth, it's another defensive option, and it only works in certain % ranges against certain attacks.

For the record, nothing you listed is a metagame. You listed advanced techniques. Metagames are somewhat like the culture of the game. Examples would be counterpicking, having secondary characters, bracket manipulation, and splitting.
