If nearly everyone in your area is a Melee elitist, it might be because Melee is the superior game.

His only decent custom is Melee boomerang. Everything else is so much trash. Melee rang can net you some great combos. However in comparison to other customs it just gets blown out. The gale should have been removed from the start.

If you picked Link, you knew what you were getting into. In fact I think it's not possible to avoid counter picking Link. Any half decent character is a counter pick against Link.

I agree here. Humans breed animals for specific personality traits and temperments all the time. Why do we think that our thoughts, personalities and affinities are truly our own? Who I am right now could easily entirely be the product of my genetics responding to environment.
