Atlantic North [Nov 8, 2014] SypherPhoenix's Boosted Biweeklies! - Northern VA (Fairfax, VA, USA)

I haven't been to a smash tourney in a while, I'll try to make one next month. =)

    Level 3 CPUs... why?

Yes all computers follow a pattern, which is why you want to fight one who's pattern consists of little more than recovering from hits and walking. Theoretically, CPUs on "stand" in training mode are the best practice, some people prefer attacking ones just because they approach.

What brawl has done to me....

Lol, after 6 years of L-cancelling and wavedashing those habits aren't going anywhere. I actually continue to use my L-cancel habit in Brawl because it's a reaction and has no negative effects. The only thing I personally have trouble with between Brawl and Melee is that the character select...

Scar on the Melee vs Brawl debate: What does competitive really mean?

I think games aren't what's competetive, rather the people playing them. If you want to win in a game, and you play to win, practice to win, and improve yourself to win, you are a competetive player. Both Brawl, Melee, and any other 2-player game in existence has this possibility. The...

    [moved] SSBB AT Guide

This might have to be double checked, but I'm pretty sure that "Falcon kick-like" down airs CANNOT be cancelled by Up-B, and simply finish themselves after 2 or 3 jump heights. In other words, you're waiting for the move to end, then jumping/up-Bing/whatever. I tested with all characters...

    Knee's timing is silly

It's not as useful an approach anymore because short hops take longer and the knee itself is faster, making you toss it out at the very end of a very, very long airtime. It's not as surprising. Mixing up empty short hops, sh bair and sh knee is probably a good way to use it, but it's...

    Brawl edgeguarding

Meta for sure, I'd imagine Marth cause he's so floaty, and while not usable often, Ike's ledgehop bair edgeguard is <3

    Trouble w/ Tilting.......

Move it as fast and as far as you want as long as you don't touch the top of the motion area, and you'll tilt/walk.

    The RoK Says this.

If you lose you lose, if you win you win. That is all.

Edgeguarding: Whether to chase off the stage or not

Edgeguarding is all about predicting and removing your opponent's options. Very situational. One of the best edgeguards in Melee was the lightshield edgehog, which gave the opponent 2 options: Go for the edge and die, cause you'll get edgehogged, or land on the stage and be hit by a...

    Evolution of Brawl

Technically, Brawl IS Melee 2.0, just as Melee was SSB64 2.0... But I digress, the reason most people have issues with Brawl is BECAUSE it's not "Melee 2.0" as you say, and so many things were changed. Since so much more attention has been given to Brawl tactics than Melee's, the whole "give...

    E-Canceling?

    Not always, it can either be random like tripping or it can be extremely hard to do, either one would make it difficult to do consistantly. Why is it now called "E-cancelling"? >.>;

Smash Back Room Weekly Character Discussions! FINAL UPDATES: Ness + Lucas. All done!!

From my experience I'd say Meta's range is one of his main obstacles; it's short yet his attacks are like lightning. Given that Brawl's combo system is less effective, it looks like his game will focus on more of a rushdown (kind of like a constant tech chase?) kind of gameplay. This'll take...

    camping campers acceptable?

I'd say camping is relatively simple to beat compared to actually playing a skilled opponent, not to mention it's WAY too repetetive and patterned to be useful for more than one match. I've observed that when people bring this up, it is responded to with "well not everyone is skilled enough...

No FF D air with C-stick/Running -> Tilt

To answer your second question, I prefer simply walking at top speed (as opposed to dashing) and then d-tilting, as there is virtually no ending lag on walks, and the speed difference isn't as crucial anymore. If you're already dashing, I'd use shield like you said, but possibly a different...
